  1. Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but the Kampfgruppe Engle campaign mission called Tiger Poaching has this same scenario. Perhaps you could open it in the editor and see what the designers did there?
  2. Always good to know another virtual submariner. I cannot agree with your approach, but you are the captain of your boat and must conduct operations in the manner you see fit Narwhal? A V-boat! What a beast. Which mod are you playing Ripper? That's GFO?
  3. That's true, but sort of like saying you'd like to hear Beethoven's 3rd and the orchestra just plays E♭ Sounds nice, but missing something, ya know? Anyway, my day will come eventually. And I haven't ruled F&R out, just of the four possible years the next module could have covered, it happens to be the one I am least interested in. But Combat Mission is a wonderful tactical simulator and the worst of it is better than most of the rest of 'em. So you never know, and I'll almost certainly get the expansion if it spawns a covey of new campaigns.
  4. As I hinted, I am not planning on picking up F&R straight away. So if this campaign will incorporate F&R assets I may be unable to help. I'll make a decision after the early returns from forum comments. My apologies.
  5. I was a long time SH3 player. Hell, for that matter a long time SH2 player, especially Pacific Aces. Ha, but after SH4 mods started hitting the sealanes I switched over. Mods like Grey Wolves are excellent, but at that time (maybe it's been streamlined since then) the install process was wicked. Mods like Real Fleet Boat, Trigger Maru and Operation Monsun give me just what I'm looking for and the installs are a breeze, especially with JSGME. A few clicks and I can switch from say USS Guardfish, my current boat, near the Marianas, to U-46 in the western approaches to Gibraltar. Trigger Maru Overhauled 2.5 raises the difficulty, increases the realism and gives me a better experience. I play with all boxes checked, aside from map contact updates. Manual targeting, no externals, and well, the way sub sims should be played in my view. If anyone is bored and is looking for some reading material, here is my most recent AAR, this one in command of a Type VIIB in OM. The War Patrols of U-46 @ SimHQ
  6. I have to agree, partly because of the Bil thing of course This is the first Combat Mission title I have been excited about since Red Thunder, and no need to say how long ago that was. It appeals to me because it features such well-matched adversaries in a conflict that never flared up. And it focuses on forces that are asymmetric in a number of ways. Nothing like Shock Force of course, but asymmetrical combat is highly appealing for me. Different doctrines clashing. And because the cold war did not go hot, this game will be free of the constraints of history. It's not tethered to historical battles and outcomes, and instead is all what-if. I've often said that as a student of this history I prefer what-if generators. I know what happened in real life, I'd prefer in some ways to war-game out other situations and scenarios. The historical Combat Mission titles have avoided this to a large degree, and understandably so. But Cold War has such massive latitude for campaign and scenario design as a result. This is exciting and I cannot wait to see how it shakes out.
  7. Erwin, I've played a lot of War in the East, the grand campaign. One of the best war games ever in my view. I have not play WitP as it seems even more micro, it's an earlier release lacking some of the QoL improvements they put in WitE. But I know it's a good game. I've intended to get WitWest but never got around to pulling the trigger. Ripper, good list and I've played several of those. Motorsport Manager is a gem. I got it on sale for 8 dollars then proceeded to drop 300 hours in to it, taking my team from the very bottom to a World Championship. Good stuff. I have a SH4 Trigger Maru campaign going now, and just played one recently in Operation Monsun (German Boats in SH4).
  8. Wow! This is fantastic. Congrats to Battlefront and Slitherine for getting this off the ground. Can't wait.
  9. Well that sort of advice is like your internet provider saying 'unplug the router, wait 20 seconds, then plug it in again'. It often works and is not bad advice. But it's more like something to get out of the way and if it doesn't solve the issue then we will dive deeper. Updating drivers isn't necessarily good nor bad. But sometimes you can create a new issue attempting to fix another. My advice was if ain't broke don't fix it. If you actually have it broke, then it is solid advice most of the time and well, you need to fix it. I wouldn't worry.
  10. I would too, if you need any help (and if it does not require F&R in the end). Looking at the screenshots of the maps. This is exactly the sort of map/terrrain that I find most enjoyable. The rural/farmland sort of stuff. I'm no fan of urban combat in Combat mission, and other maps can be congested or close with thick forests or other map elements. The sorts of maps shown here though are right up my alley. Open ground with broken sightlines due to tree lines, small copses, villages, undulations. Looking forward to this campaign release.
  11. I'm happy you found it, and also happy to help. Looking through the manual as I did, Winter War looks interesting. So it was a valuable exercise for me as well. Good hunting commander
  12. Anytime mate, hope you identify it. Aren't the songs somewhere in the game directory?
  13. OK well I cheated a bit. I downloaded the manual for Winter War, and that's the only song listed in the credits... Good luck mate
  14. Shot in the dark.... “Soviet Empire” by Serguei Stern?
  15. Ah, sorry, not sure then. I'll have a look through my stuff and see if I can spot it. Maybe check this link? Not sure what's in there, but maybe you'll find the scenario you seek. https://www.moddb.com/games/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/downloads/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy-demo-1-10 The mission/demo in question is no longer available through the Battlefront site?
  16. Don't recall the scenario name, but it is the first mission in the Task Force Raff campaign, if we are thinking of the same one https://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4490342/re-combat-mission-campaign-compendium#Post4490342
  17. I agree with the others, avoid those sorts of apps. That said, if ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't update drivers because there is a new one. Only when some sort of issue crops up that is driver related. But the only real reason I will do it is if I get a new game that doesn't run well on the old ones. This is becoming ever more rare. Back in the day it was common. A new WHQL came out for the video card? Get it. But back then we also managed swap files, ran defrag before we installed everything, and did annual reformats of the hard drives just to keep it all ticking along and playing nicely. Now? Hardly ever needed unless there's an issue with how a program is running. If it runs fine, no need to risk it I see now the necro, but the advice still stands...
  18. Yeah, fair one Umlaut. I did not stick to the spirit of the OP. That indeed is for CMx3.
  19. Yes, pintere, I agree and am not expecting any more Red Thunder, at least in CMx2. If we are still on CMx2 even ten years from now it's unlikely I'll still playing it. But then it becomes a matter of is Red Thunder playable in CMx3, or will it require all new content. I'd reckon the latter, and then East Front would start all over again. But all of that is speculation for the wardroom. I hope Fire and Rubble is a big success however, and I am not ruling it out, just stating that this direction leaves me cold, which is my issue, not Battlefront's or any other member of the community. All it might take is a few compelling campaign AARs to bring me in. So get those up straight away, if you folks don't mind
  20. I'll go against the grain and say I'm not looking forward to this module, but whichever one follows with 1941 and 1942. Late war hardware doesn't light my fire. There will be a lot of very cool vehicles and formations in the module I'm sure. But as lethality goes up, compelling gameplay goes down, at least for me. And I am not a fan of urban fighting in Combat Mission, and I guess that will be a focus of the new module and associated campaigns? And rightly so if it is. All of which means this really isn't the one for me, and I am a big fan of Red Thunder. Maybe I'll pick it up down the road, I'll wait and see it through the posts folks here make after release and make the call then. We've waited seven years for this expansion, and if I recall correctly, Battlefront once said that the plan would be to do 1945, then 1943, 1942 and 1941, working in reverse. If each of those was a separate module with similar development time, 1941 would arrive 21 years from now and the chances of me still being around and able to conduct a proper battle will have gone way down. So maybe I buy this one as my last shot
  21. Agreed, and something akin to what's in CC5 for example would be wonderful in Combat Mission.
  22. I want exactly what we have now, with a redesigned, modern UI and a completely new campaign system. Untether me from the supply pipeline and allow me to generate endless campaigns tailored to my tastes. So yeah, what Commanderski said Oh, and a modular approach with Combat Mission as a base, where each module plugs in, allowing all content from all modules to be freely used in any scenario, regardless of 'historical accuracy' concerns. This could go on all day, but one more thing. Bring back the ability to direct indirect fires without LOS.
  23. Thanks Alfy, and all of you for the comments. Yes, I've played many more campaigns. It's all I play really. I'll look to revisit this and add to it down the road.
  24. Just in the past few months Elite Dangerous, Cyberpunk, Falcon 4 BMS, Europa Universalis 4, Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2, Outer Wilds, Outer Worlds, Borderlands 3, Super Mega Baseball 3, Football Manager, F1 2020, Warhammer 2, Frost Punk, Black Mesa, GTA 5, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, Prey, Hitman 2 and probably several more that escape me at the mo. So yeah, I don't do much gaming these days
