Luchesa Operation Underway
Bartokomus replied to SFJaykey's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
C3K is bang on i think. Keep it historical, maybe gracing the germans with bountiful fortifications, TRP's and arty. then weight it through the parameters. it sounds like this might be ripe for a SP Op; is that what you were going for? -

"Star," the Soviet WWII novel, is on the web

A very powereful read; thank you for the time you put into it for us Anglos. -
No; mods affect only what you see/hear. the data at the back end is the same for both of you. you just have a nicer, purtier "wrapper" on yours.

EB Games.....numbskulls?
Bartokomus replied to Panzertruppe's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Two things- First, who was the "NUMBSKULL" on our side who actually sold back their copy of CMBB. Would the guilty party step forward so that they can be drawn and quartered. Second, and on the lines of the clueslessness of the retail gaming industry. Go into your local store and spend a couple minutes looking around. Then, ask the clerk if they have any copies of CM (BO or BB). They will help you look and then check the computer. From there I have received all sorts of comments- including "we will be getting it with our next shipment." You can even take it a step further, and when they claim never to have heard of the game pull out the displayed issue of a gaming mag showing it as the "strategy game of the year"- then they really get confused. </font> -
Yes but Casba has a much cooler song associated with it. was that the Kinks who sang that?

Pushing the limits. Has anyone tried...
Bartokomus replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
SP Balck and the Bridgehead is a 100+ turns on a large-ish map, with about around 15000 poins total . it is a very challenging game from both side, especially PBEM. a definite recommendation -
methinks your being ignored...
-
i'm playing that Op too, it's a horse. but if you guys haven't set up the reinforcements yet, just start from the last turn that was still PBEM. i know when a friend and i play TCP/IP we just open up the saved game, and instead of selecting pbem, we would just select tcp/ip. i don't know why you can't do the same when you open up the file. or have you already tried that...

two Gf4 4200 cards to pick from
Bartokomus replied to Bartokomus's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
i would expect a modest gain just from reinstalling the os and cleaning up the bloated registry, but not a substantial gain like i'm seeing. it is quite the difference, and i'm not one to be overly generous to HW. back a while i did some testing on these two Geforce 4's and an ATI Radeon 8500 64mb; i ran madonion 3dmark through a couple of passes on each and averaged the score. before i wiped on Saturday i ran 3dmark again and the score was near the same for the 64mb 4200 as it was before. last night i ran it again and the score for 128mb 4200 was again roughly the same. so... to me if the scores are the same, i'm deducing that CMBB is liking more memory for textures. a theory, but i'm happier. funny thing though: i swear it takes longer for the games to load the 3d graphics with this card. makes me wonder if the slower video memory is responsible for that. thank you for your help and thoughts -
two Gf4 4200 cards to pick from
Bartokomus replied to Bartokomus's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
just to finish it up; i reinstalled the OS (spring cleaning!), popped in the 4200 128mb card and WOW!! it rocks, no more stutter and no more pauses as i pan the camera. so the slower but more plentiful memory easily beats the faster brand. as it was a gainward, i did o/c the card, but not enough to account for the exponential performance increase. just in case anyone was still wondering... now where were those mods... -

MG kills a medium tank?
Bartokomus replied to walpurgis nacht's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
why don't you look at the movie file again. go down to level 1 and listen for the rounds to come in. is it the armor penetration sounds or the screams of the mortally wounded? i think you need to know this before you worry if your Mk IV was knocked out. i would guess your crew freaked... a thought. -
Only too true as all who have played Message from Götz will admit... </font>

didn't read your post carefully enough the first tiem; the o/c app on the gainward should compensate for some of the memory difference as well, so the extra memory should come in handy. i'll give it a try -
Biltong's Campaign Rules goes 'GOLD'!!
Bartokomus replied to Biltong's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
i obviously must fall to the bottom of the intelligence category. i feel mostly lost as i try to understand some of the ways of implementing the concepts in the parameters. i played the first battle, but i am not cetain i did it right. but i used one of the maps in the map pack and it was a damn good time. my question is this: would you like me to post my stupidity for all to see, and thereby anyone else to be helped, or may i email one of you "old hands"? thank you Murray -
