  1. Do you treat the whole world like some grognard discourse on battlefield attrition rates? Just curious... *edit: @Dorosh [ October 03, 2002, 01:08 PM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  2. Did you really think my post to the CDV forum was that badly written and 'rabid' Michael? Fair enough, you write one and I'll delete mine, no problem mate. I hardly think 3-4 'active' CDV threads are going to make much difference amid the plethora of threads (rightly) praising CM. Anyway, this is a forum, we discuss CM to the depths and the heights. There is a reply CDV can give: A release date - on their own website. [ October 03, 2002, 09:54 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  3. For CMBB (oops CM2)? In English? Correct, well done that man! /me goes to read a thread about a rumoured sighting of CMBB in Flinders Street Station, Melbourne...
  4. IMHO CDV is probably the logical choice though if you wanted a mainstream European-based distributer for a wargame. I personally can't think of any others which would fit the bill any better. The decision to release the German-language version first though is just plain strange though from where I'm sitting. Logic would suggest that the English version would be first off the presses since there is no translation? I am therefore of the opinion that there are five possible causes: 1) They just made a plain, big, dumb mistake; 2) Using the German local market to judge sales before releasing in the rest of Europe; 3) Technical problem; 4) They don't want to release the game head-to-head with Sudden Strike 2; 5) They have a majority stake in a company specializing in trans-Altantic packages. Of course a simple anncoucement would stop people like me adding fuel to an already burning rumour-mill (and mixing our cliches)... [ October 03, 2002, 07:56 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  5. I posted a question in CDV English forum a few days ago. Reasonably worded I thought (although I couldn't help mentioning the artwork and the manual - me bad ). No answer forthcoming as of yet. I have say in all honesty that I don't think Jake's thread is particularly helpful really. CDV will not respond to flaming I suspect - although if it does elicit a response I take my hat off to you sir. At this moment all we can do is politely ask, send a few (nice) e-mails, hope that CDV spits something up and talk about the situation on these boards. Which brings me to another point I'd like to get off my chest. Can people not affected by the CDV distribution deal please just go away and stop your anti-whining whining? Just don't read any threads with 'CDV' in the title. It’s really that easy. Please get out of other people’s faces and take your pseudo-intellectual-superiority-attitude somewhere else. Calling someone an 8 year old drooling retard is hardly going to help, is it now?
  6. Did they? Never saw it (obviously). It's good PCGamer has CMBO as their 3rd best turn-based strategy (or sumfink). 70%? Fools.
  7. Lucky CDV didn't try to change the name either... **** WARNING LAME JOKES BELOW **** "Combat Mission: Grrrrr Tiger!" "Lulu Does the Eastern Front" "Deep Penetrations (120mm at 30deg)" "Hot Hot Hot - FlammpanzerIII" "Strip Poker" "Sudden Strike 3" er... bored now...
  8. Must mean Preview. Still nice that a 'mainstream' UK pc magazine is sitting up and taking notice. I was afraid CMBB was going to be missed amongst all the other WW2-themed stuff flying around atm. This is exactly the sort of thing BTS need to enlarge European sales. w00t!!111 Then again PCGamer was the only UK magazine that I ever saw that reviewed CMBO. The other common UK pc gaming magazine PCZone (smaller circulation though) hasn't seemed to realised CM exists. Despite several e-mails I sent them.
  9. Since I found that last post (before last ) the funniest thing I've read in the Forum since I re-registered... ROFL! [ September 30, 2002, 01:00 PM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  10. You've obviously had a look then? The only forum with any sort of life in it is the German language one as far as I can see. Plus I registered 3 days ago and I'm still waiting for my login password. I'm not going to hold my breath getting sensible replies from them. So from my pov, this Forum is still the correct one for people to make their point. If you don't like reading complaints directed at CDV, then feel free to read any number of the threads about CMBB being delivered. Cheers ta.
  11. Well as I see it some chaps can post "w00t I got it m8s" threads and some chaps post "CDV sux0rs" threads. Sort of ying-yang situation from where I'm sitting.
  12. LoL, this was done before. The conclusion was that any lurkers who replied were by definition not uberlurkers.
  13. Lurking r0x0rs!!!111 Well put dd. I share your thoughts.
  14. I too admit I broke down and bought it. :-/ Who else?
  15. The manual issue is daft. Imagine if AH had cut a couple of sections out of the ASL rule book because it was too large to fit in the box. If it won't fit in a DVD case, use a proper box. Idiots...
  16. The only review of CMBO I ever saw in the UK was in PCGamer magazine. In fact I went and ordered it that evening. Although CM, TacOps, AA, etc appeal to a relatively small niche market, imo it is still worth while getting the games reviewed in 'mainstream' gaming magazines. Be they 'twitchy' or not. I will be sadly disappointed if I don't see a review of CMBB in the UK gaming magazines within 1-2 months.
  17. It's not so much that it's late. It's the fact that CDV doesn't seem to be handling it's information release very well at all. Confusion has set in, irritation is beginning to build up, resentment sure to follow. Yes, it is an impatient world in which we live. But also in today's world of the internet information has never been so easy to spread...
  18. That's the jobba! Heh, I'm trying to remember something I read 5 years ago in Hogg's basic book on small arms (I think). Just a quick look see to remind myself. There were Pak41 42mm/29mm and 75mm/55mm guns as well. To be fair though the term 'squeezebore' is often used as well I see. *edit I see MattMad checked as well, thought it was Hogg I saw it in. He did a couple of nice simple books. [ September 26, 2002, 09:11 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  19. IIRC wasn't there a larger calibre German 'squeeze gun' as well? 50mm-ish??? They were awesome pieces of kit for the time, lucky the Germans ran low on tungsten so early on.
  20. TBH I don't believe the 4th is offical any more. www.Game.uk.com say the 11th and I reckon they're one of the biggest retailers of PC games in the UK? So I would expect them to be near the top of outlets CMBB is being shipped to? So in my eyes either CDV has forgotten to put Game on their list or they've not told Game of the correct date. Either which is pretty poor imo. (add: www.EB.uk.com, also say the 11th) As I said though, lack of any real information from CDV creates rumours and uncertainities. 21. I must admit to being a little confused as to why CDV cannot give a more concrete release date. The game's out in the US. The German version is out (allegedly). I really don't understand why a sanitised English version should take longer - the German language version requires the extra step of translation in my (simple) mind. Okay shipping, but in today's age I still can't see this taking +2 weeks. Still nothing on the CDV websites about the release in the rest of Europe. "tba" :-/. The main CDV website doesn't even offer a logical link to the dedicated CMBB website (which has no information anyway). Given a complete lack of information I think it's only natural for people to start speculating about what is going on behind the scenes. It irritates me that BTS is one of the most 'open' developers I've ever encountered, while CDV seems to be the most 'closed' publisher I've ever seen. Still perhaps I'll buy "Wet Attack " in the meantime. Or "Space Brothel". Or "Lula Lover". Or "Playbär: Pleasure World". Or "Photo-Shooting" (the concept of using a pinball table to knock Lulu's clothes off is an amazing game concept imo). Starting to get annoyed with this situation tbh as you may tell...
  22. After no time researching this what so ever... I guess if you order from the CDV site you're going to get a German language version. I think the English/German language selection is only for the web language and has no influence on the game in question. If I were you I'd order the UK version from somewhere like www.amazon.co.uk or www.play.com and get them to ship it to you in Germany. Sucks I know. But as a English speaker living in the Netherlands, it is what I do quite often. You could always e-mail CDV about this. I think they must have set up a dedicated team by now to answer all the CMBB queries coming in.
