  1. In that case can we turn this into a discussion of when the patch will come out? Where's the bl**dy patch?????2222
  2. I've only really had trouble when the enemy are hiding in buildings. Then I find about the only way to make sure that my advancing troops won't get badly ambushed is to demolish the building in question with HE. HMG suppressive fire seems to have very little effect on buildings in terms of supression for me. Hmmm, should do a test I guess. So normally it's a case of sending some heroic half-squad or TH team sauntering over to take a look-see. Poor sods...
  3. When I was in the UK TA I could quite happily go for a nice 10km run with battlekit on (although I was pretty fit from marathon training at the time). But give me 300m of 'pepper-potting' and I was knackered. And tbh I don't have a issue with moving my lads around in CMBB. As I said before, I keep it short and sweet and don't have a problem. It's only when I try to keep my infantry be-bopping along at the same speed as the AFV's for several minutes at a stretch that I have problems.
  4. A little bit more on topic - yes, I recently did a trawl through Amazon for some East Front reading material. However, I have a question for some people better read on this topic than I. Last week I finished reading "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer. I then went onto the next book on my 'pile' ("In Deadly Combat" by Gottlob Bidermann), which contained a short forward by the translator which mentioned that there was some doubt as to the authenticity of Sajer's book. Is this true? Is there some doubt as to the authenticity of "The Forgotten Soldier"? I must say there are some things in Sajer's book which do make me wonder in retrospect...
  5. If it's affiliated with the "Actually I'd Rather Like Ambush Back As Well Club" then I'll join...
  6. I wasn't thinking commerical. Just giving you some upload space and access to their download bandwidth. But then again I'm completely inept at webbie shiz so just ignore me...
  7. With the chance of following the specific 'order combination' dependent on experience and current fatigue level? Personally, me likes.
  8. I don't want to sound rude but I don't think playable is what CMBB is about. It's about realism. Sudden Strike is playable (ish), CMBB is realistic (ish).
  9. Not trying to sh*t-stir, but I find it strange that BTS doesn't host this database. Especially since I can't find any of the CMBB mods on the CMHQ webbie (though feel free to tell me where if I've missed 'em). But thanks very much to COG for hosting this. A nice simple d/b of mods, just what I need. /me sits back and waits for CMMOS v4.0
  10. I'd like to see more commands! I don't want a single command, I want to be able to choose from an intelligent selection in order to use the best one for the situation as I see it. Maybe BTS should consider 2 levels of commands for the next engine? An exoteric low-level one which only provides 2-3 movement commands, and a higher-level mode which allows the full plethora of commands available?
  11. Yes, men tiring easily is a problem. But not in the sense that it's incorrect. You just have to manage your men with a bit more care than in CMBO. Let them rest for a turn before attempting that 150m dash across open ground. Don't use the whole turn for movement. Use that command delay to give them a breather. Only Advance in short sticks. As I said before, I like it. For me CMBO was all about AFV's, infantry just ran behind and occupied the bits the Panzers had already routed. Now I have to spend as much time moving my landser platoons as I do finding that perfect hull-down aspect for my PzVG. Nice. The only problem I have is my men getting exhausted due to excessive Sneaking when under fire. But it appears that is going to be somewhat adressed in the patch...
  12. MTC with a CA might do for a lot of situations, but the fact we have to do it seems a bit daft. Personally I would have liked the old 'Sneak' and 'Crawl' to have been supplemented by the the 'Move to Contact'. But I guess the number of different movement orders might start to look a bit daunting? While I'm typing, although not on-topic, one thing I wish I had was a "secondary" order I could give to my units to tell them what to do when they come under fire. eg. MTC across that open ground but go to ground with a 'Sneak' or 'Advance' to a pre-determined patch of cover (only allowing one movement leg for this bit) when you're shot at. The chance of the unit following the "secondary" order is further determined by their experience and current morale. No good for the current engine, but *fingers crossed*.
  13. Give the chap the benefit of the doubt. He probably mistook it for GI Combat. /me points to GIC demo and laughs
  14. Tbh I don't care which front the next game is based on, I just need an improved campaign mode to make me happy.
  15. Michael, I guess one example might be when using a Russian SMG squad in an ambush. Here I would set a CA range of around 40m so I hit the enemy with my max firepower of 400-ish (since I have no rifles or DPs). However, if the enemy run directly away from my SMG squad then I might be scuppered even though I'd obviously like to keep firing. Saying that, I usually stick in an infantry CA of 150deg to prevent the enemy running 'out of the side' of the arc. Try to keep things a bit narrower for AFV's since here I might have to wait for my turret to swing through 70deg or so in order to engage, not fun in a Tiger. Despite a couple of glitches, I still personally prefer arcs over the old 'ambush' command any day! Although tbh I'd be happier if I could choose between the 2 methods in CMBB. Horses for courses and all that...
  16. I find myself using the 'Move' command more than in CMBO, purely because I need to make sure that my infantry stay 'rested' by the time the lead starts flying. Once in combat I rarely now 'Advance' or 'Assault' for distances greater than 60-70m. In addition since I overwatch my units, they often get a rest every 1-2 minutes. In this way I rarely have a problem with exhausted troops, the only exception being those that have done the 'sneak of death' under fire. :-/ The poor old 'Fast' command barely gets a look-in nowadays. Overall I like it a lot. Trying to keep my men fresh enough to be effective means (in my mind) that I have to treat them more as 'humans' and less as 'chess-pieces'. If you get my drift?
  17. Afaik we'd need a new engine to do North Africa if you wanted M3A1's Lee/Grant with their hull-mounted 75mm gun. For me I'd like to see North Africa and Italy together in the next CM. Imo neither of these theatres alone quite warrant an entire game. How about "Combat Mission: The Road to Rome"?
  18. Managed to 'knock out' 2 German panzers with Molotov Cocktails (MC) last night whilst playing the "A Morning in the Zoo" (? title). Both tanks had 3-4 MC's thrown at them, a single hit scored on both, both bailed with full (veteran) crews within 1 minute of being struck (ie didn't lose personnel inside the tank itself). So for me it worked, but it the MC's caused 'abandonments' rather than actual damage to the tanks. Obviously helped therefore that the tanks were exposed, under heavy small arms fire, with broken/routed German infantry nearby. Btw all MC's thrown from upper stories of buildings. Personally I always try to do this, I have no idea whether MC's are more likely to knock out vehicles when thrown from a height, but I like to do it anyway... Interesting thought about MC's being thrown into buildings. How about thrown directly in the anti-personnel role as well? Was this done in practice?
  19. The unexpectedly sudden end of WW2 due to the dining room table being needed for dinner. The feel of that 'lost' squad of 6mm Waffenhamsters penetrating the soft arch of a bare foot. Back ache - play CMBB lying on the floor...
  20. I feel your pain Master. For better or worse these forums are possibly a bit different from most other gaming forums. The type of game and the content generally make things a bit more 'serious' here. Humour tends to be restricted to: 1) Jokes about Finns; 2) Jokes about Australians; 3) Jokes about Bren Tripods; 4) Monty Python; 5) Peng, which was originally a joke but now has evolved (slightly). GG BTW BTS
  21. Well, another Monday, another weekend without CMBB. Just to keep things up to date from my pov: 1) Spent a nice Saturday lunchtime wandering around Den Haag trying to find a pc shop that had even heard of CMBB. No such luck. No-one had a clue about this title. Looks like C*cough*V's press releases haven't made it out yet to Dutch retailers. 2) No reply to my thread in the C*cough*V English forum. 79 views though, so somebody reads it. I live in hope. \o/ So what's the point of posting I hear you ask? None really you may say. But then what was the point in trying to get information from C*cough*V? None really. And to any anti-whining whiners who may read this. I had to look on page 6 for this thread. Oops, oh dear, I seem to have bumped it up. Me bad.
