  1. The 93% rating from PC Gamer may have been a factor.
  2. While novelty and theme must have been factors in CMBO's sales dominance, I reckon the main reason it outsold its successors is simple... It was around for longer, and sat on *many more* shop shelves. CMBO had a couple of budget releases in Europe, not to mention a multipack release. These will have generated a large portion of its total sales. CMBB and CMAK had far less exposure.
  3. There are two small references to CoH in the review. One points out how fundamentally dissimilar the two games are: "ToW is a pure skirmish wargame (no CoH-style base-building or in-mission recruitment.)" The other is within a concluding paragraph that also briefly compares ToW to CC, CM and FoW. Full review here ToW didn't lose any marks for 'not being CoH' Regards, A shill/gaming media slut/whore-bent gaming pressman.
  4. A couple of snaps taken from top of Krak Des Chevalier showing terraced hillsides (a CMSF terrain type?) plus a pic of the one souvenir from the trip I still treasure. http://home.clara.net/headcount/Syria05.html
  5. Spent a very pleasant fortnight there a few years ago. Just dug out some of my snaps actually. Not very good quality but: Street scenes http://home.clara.net/headcount/Syria02.html Central/eastern region http://home.clara.net/headcount/Syria01.html Skylines http://home.clara.net/headcount/Syria03.html Ruined town near Golan Heights http://home.clara.net/headcount/Syria04.html
  6. A wild guess based on Battlefront's last(?) ETA:
  7. Icm1947 - I believe you are thinking of Steven's grey PzIV mod (another great mod) which sadly lacks textures for the side and turret skirts. The StuG pack includes good skirt textures but is lacking the side bmp for the StuG IV. Anyway I'm really loathed to abandon it so I've ended-up using one of the other StuG side textures in the pack for the StuG IV. Apart from the number of wheels (?) I don't think the various models looked radically different from that perspective. EDIT*******Just been searching for another PzIV mod when I came across PanzerAce's latest at cmmods.com. Essentially its Steven's PzIV WITH schurzen and a long barrel. The schurzen are 'damaged'which I dont personally like but this damage can be undone in a couple of minutes in Photoshop. Final result looks excellent. In my opinion the best PzIV CMBO mod.******* [ February 14, 2003, 08:09 PM: Message edited by: Headcount ]
  8. I've just discovered Steven Burvenich's excellent grey StuG mod but in the CMHQ dl there appears to be a texture missing (sides of the StuG IV) Anyone know where I can get the complete mod or this particular texture? Thanks.
  9. December release date was my mistake (not sure where I got hold of that). Apologies. I'm writing the review right now incidentally - deadline in 3 hours! Tim Stone
  10. Thanks Sytass. Interesting. The second image shows a slight attempt at 'Russification'. I wonder if the publishers were concerned about how a more obvious Russian presence on the cover would affect sales in Germany? From a marketing POV I acn understand how they might want to create sub-conscious associations between CM2 and Band Of Brothers/Saving Private Ryan.
  11. Just wondered what artwork is finally being used on CDV packaging in Germany and rest of Euro. I've seen two versions of the "courageous GI" art No1 No2 Not sure which looks more Russian.
  12. Jester - I did contact Battlefront before posting. Martin told me it was too late to change things. The point of this thread is really to gauge the strength of opinion in the hope that alterations can be made via the patch, and subsequent/CDV? print-runs of the manual. Tom - Completely agree that any redesign shouldn't come at the cost of a delay or an increase in already considerable workloads. Perhaps an external artist could be considered in the circumstances. I don't believe it would take the right person much more than a day to come up with something much more attractive/ appropriate. CMBB deserves presentation as impressive and authoratitive as the experience it will doubtless deliver. The current title script does it no favours whatsoever.
  13. Apologies if this has been discussed before but I was wondering how many people agree with me that the use of mirrored letters on the CMBB main screen, box etc is appallingly crass. Not only is it an extremely tired trick but it is also nonsensical and a touch insulting to anyone familiar with the Cyrillic alphabet. Had umlauts been placed above the O's in 'Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord' then I think (hope)there would have been complaints. There are far more attractive and subtle ways of 'Russifying'script. the present solution only succeeds in cheapening the look of a quality product. Interested to hear your views. 14. Driving up the A3 (road in UK) on Monday morning I passed a wrecked Churchill tank. It was on the back of a low-loader heading south. Completely rusty, no paint on it, turret intact, I don't think there was a gun. Anyone know anything about this beast? I assume (hope) it was on its way to Bovington for restoration?
