  1. Well quibbles aside, it's a positive demo review and that's got to be good.
  2. Or service time perhaps? I just don't know about the Russians though. Someone must have a URL out there...
  3. What do the stripes on the sleeves signify? My knowledge of Russian uniforms is pitifully small...
  4. Okay reading what MikeyD says... So we have to be careful in making sure the end-point on the Hull Down command is within LOS of our intended hull down position? If I stick it behind a wood or hill say, there's a chance that my AFV will move a fair way (unintended) in order to achieve (force) LOS? Did I make any sense at all there?
  5. Lucky you put that disclaimer in Sgt . I only re-registered cause I lost my blinking password after a +6 month break (don't ask I didn't post much tbh). I bought the game online end of 2000 (I think, long time ago ) btw, so be careful with #'s... I do sense some tension in the forum though. Maybe I'm rusty with the feel of this place but do I detect an old-school/new-school attitude??? Aside: What happened to Slapdragon? I went away to work overseas for a while and came back to find he'd stopped posting apparently. Or is it a 'stumm' subject? *edit: speeling hasn't improved though [ September 05, 2002, 08:07 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  6. I find the apparent improvement in the suspression ability of the HMG even more impressive than the firing onto identified targets tbh. The suspression aspect now seems to be very well implemented from what little I can tell from the limited demo scenerios. Thumbs up!
  7. Hmmmm. A couple of guys make perfectly valid suggestions and points and already I see an element of intellectual superiority creeping in. Or maybe I just missed the smilies? Yes an expansion a year ago would have been nice. Yes CMBB is a serious and deeply accurate wargame which attempts something no-one else has even come near to. Yes backwards compatibility would have been nice, but unfortunately it ain't gonna happen. Yes not everyone is madly interested or knowledgable in the Eastern Front, time to learn some new stuff. Yes a new engine is needed, but one step at a time no? Just remember people who post here play CMBO, the finest WW2 tactical wargame there is (in im-very-ho). That counts for a LOT in my book. So chill and give people some space chaps. (and I'm adding a just so you don't think I'm too righteous )
  8. Some sort of exaggeration of the shading would be very cool indeed in helping read the lie of the land more quickly. From the Citadel demo it's obvious how important micro-analysis of the levels is of importance when fighting on the steppes. Which of course it should be... Sometimes tbh I find the current shading levels a bit too subtle for my failing eyesight.
  9. Maybe a lot of lives were lost due to the fear and frustration of line officers rather than high command? I can well imagine that if I was a Russian Battalion Cmdr I would be pushing very hard indeed to achieve my goals - what with that nice political officer standing behind me! First push fails? Throw everything at the Germans! At least it appears you did your best. Retreat in good order and request reinforcements? Get a field court martial for cowardice and a quick bullet in the back of the head! Just my personal thoughts. I'm a great believer in the power of fear, blood, stress and rain to right royally mess things up... *edit: grammar [ September 05, 2002, 05:42 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
  10. Hull down to the end point? /me sees sudden flash of blinding light No wonder I was having probs! Atm I see myself using this in order to set up my AFV's in hull down ambush spots. Maybe the old Hunt command might be better to use when the enemy are already in view to the potential hull down position? Time and experience will tell I guess...
  11. I agree 100% with Sarge's initial post. Summed up my thoughts precisely. Personally I don't demand anything be changed. In fact, without wanting to sound like a rabid fanboy, I think the amount of attention the developers pay to the people on this forum is to be lauded and applauded. It is unique in my experience. But with general feedback maybe we can help BTS make this version an even bigger hit with grogs and non-grogs alike?
  12. Noooooo! Then what would we be left with to argue about in the forums? Bren tripods probably...
  13. I have a lot of sympathy with Bruce70's points. I must admit to being somewhat underwhelmed by the CMBB demo on the first look. I've been waiting a year for this? But I'm giving it time. I didn't appreciate the 'death clock' to begin with. I didn't appreciate the techniques required to use the Russian infantry effectively. I didn't appreciate the improved use of suspressive fire. And I can't appreciate the myriad of other small tweaks which I'm sure to come across in the FV. The way the game plays in the CMBB demo feels radically different c.f. CMBO now after a few days play. It just doesn't look that much different to me, yet... A new engine would have been wonderful though, would have been the icing on the cake. Still, it's damn good cake even without. The thing I like the most is: it'll be making me play CM again after a break of over 6 months!
  14. [deleted: weak comment/joke about using bushes as cover while advancing under fire]
  15. ...and more than one brain attached to those eyes. /me runs off to join Vils in his bush
  16. /me drops out of long-time lurking mode Personally I liked the 'shockwave' effect in the original. I clearly remember playing the Valley demo scenerio and watching my 75mm field gun lobbing it's arcing shells which then exploded with an explosion and a shockwave. That was the exact moment when I suddenly realised I HAD to order this game pdq. I regard it as a playing aid, in line with unit bases or unit size. It does take away from the realism but makes easier to see what is going on in the 'big picture' of the battle. But maybe it's something I don't want to see when I'm replaying the turn in view 1 and following my luckless inf coy as it comes under arty barrage. Therefore I would 'vote' for the option, if it's not too late, to enable/disable the shockwaves with hotkeys as desired. [ September 03, 2002, 08:08 AM: Message edited by: Fetchez la Vache ]
