  1. Nupremal's mod had a nice map of the "Horn" with a deployed Italian HQ and 3 corps, along with a small naval contingent but there wasn't a lot of action in that theater. The question begs, "what is the attraction to that area?". Best I could envision is a base to disrupt UK supplies coming to Egypt around the Cape, but with the RN escorting, not much of a chance.
  2. After reviewing the events in the on line manual I was thinking a flow diagram would be more appropriate.
  3. Yeah ...you know I thought long and hard about not saying anything, but I was having such great fun.....well...I had to share!
  4. Since PacGen was brought up I thought I'd let the community know there is a very nice upgrade of the Panzer General engine called PGforever. The DL is only 12megs and the AI is outstanding. So while we're waiting on SC Global you might like this "Blast from the Past". I stayed up till 1 AM just trying to get past the 2nd level, very tough until you get the hang of it.
  5. Sounds like your scientists have been napping, its about the luck of the roll and since in Nup's mod you can only allocate one research chit per technology the odds are not all that great. Once I had level 2 Tanks before the French invasion, all other times level 1.
  6. Thanks Hubert......so...what do you think.....do I get a reload?
  7. How do the players feel about port and city upgrades as now defined by the city AA upgrade that costs 10 MPPs? Here's where I'm going, since anti-air and artillery will not be in the Global campaigns I believe there should be an upgrade availabe for ports, cities, capitals, and towns/villages. For ports, all the defensive bonuses(DBs) should start at 1, that's naval(N), submarine(U), air(A), carrier©, and bombers(, same for the capitals and cities, but towns/villages start at 0. Now you have the choice of upgrading each location to three levels, depending on the tech advancements, of either or both "Urban" and "Harbor" enhancements. Each level of "Urban" upgrades costs 30 MPPs and is effective in bringing your NDB, CDB, BDB, and ADB to the next level, a max of 4 for all applied defensive bonuses(3 levels, 90MPPs). For "Harbor" developments, the same with the addition of UBD, but harbors are a little more problematic so 50 MPPs for each level(150 total). Reasoning for the upgrades is we're not concerned with just guns, but sub nets, mines, patrol craft, etc for harbors and radar, a fighter contingent, command and control, etc enhancements for the urban locations. Do you want to couple these with the garrison question with a greater MPP cost for SD and TD upgrades so enemy units must make a successful attack on the installations before they can occupy?
  8. Nevermind, I get it. Its another case of the all powerful carriers:rolleyes:, no defense except another carrier or fighters. So if you don't have a CV left or any fighters you're just SOOL, and those CVs have double strikes beside, so double the stools. This is clearly unrealistic as anti-air should include 50 cal, 20 and 40 mm guns that can easily bring down aircraft operating from carriers. The city upgrades??? What are those? You put tripleA on the tops of buildings in the form of the various calibres mentioned along with the heavy 88s and 128s and what??? They only shoot at bombers of the strategic variety, not even TAC are susceptible. It just doesn't make sense! No wonder people complain about omnipotent TAC bombers. Now I could make the rationalization since we didn't have an amphib attack from a sea tile, but now...for Global...its irrational. Hope you guys(betas) got this adjusted. Ohh...wait a minute, there's not going to be any tripleA units in the grand campaign, just as well. At least I can count on Nupremal's mod to get this right.
  9. That's going to be one of those "surprise" features that Hubert never reveals prior to release!
  10. OK Hubert and Bill I've got a little problem. It seems the Japanese AA guns are inoperative....just curious...is that another advantage to the AI, because if it is, then I won't ever buy and research them again. All three Japanese AAA units at level 3 antiair tech located at 79,24..78,25, and 60,16 are not responding to enemy airstrikes on adjacent tiles. OK, well that's not exactly true as the one in Manchuoku, 60,16 will respond when attacked but I only get one strike and the "properties"' screen clearly shows they have double strike ability. Is this by design, or do you want to examine the save? To tell you truth...I really don't need AA guns anyway, I can beat this AI with my eyes closed.
  11. Seems likes a justifiable tactic to me Hubert. What self-respecting Uboat captain wouldn't duck into an ice flow when presented with extenuating circumstances?
  12. There's danger on the edge of town. The USN AI has seen fit to probe into the East China Sea with a couple of cruiser squadrons supported by Iowa class BBs. This presents a major dilemma to my efforts as I cannot allow this incursion to come in and out of the IJN stronghold without consequence. Unfortunately these are not the target class of priority so even though I must respond, it must be measured as far as my subsequent losses are concerned. Continued tactics of this type will surely undermine the IJN strategy for the last ditch effort, I'm thinking about some kind of diversion. The other major problem for the beginning of the "Summer of Hell" is that Saipan fell and soon the Abomb reign of terror is about to start. Knowing that the main targets will be Japanese cities, I have decided to not deploy into the cities themselves but on the outskirts where my engineers have been busy readying improved defensive positions. Its obvious that the CV strikes coupled with the Abomb drops will completely erase any city garrisons so I will concentrate on counterattacks to regain the critical cities of Kyoto and Tokyo. Chungking and the defensive perimeter in Manchuoku are solid for this final 6 months of the campaign even though intel reveals T34Cs massing on both flanks so I will now concentrate on holding the Home Islands. Wish me luck!
  13. You know Baron, I kind of like the way subs operate too(compared to the SC1 days), although I would like to see them have a greater AP allocation. Be careful cause they're easily trapped in confined waters by the old "corral" technique, best left to the open water deployments. One of these days we're going to get that "pass through" feature for all naval units and with the enhanced APs we'll pretty much have a nicely simulated naval conflict.
  14. Well that was it for the Japanese AI, surrendered on its March 1, 1945 turn. The Allies, all USA, took Seoul(paradrop) and Kyoto by the 1st Marine Tank division moving from Tokyo supported by McArthur. The Japanese AI was very strong in Burma and the UK wasn't able to make much progress, a stalemate for most of the game, and the AI diverted what could have been the Chinese surrender to that theater. USSR never entered into the fray, never was needed. My first ever PT game playing the Japanese AI, max settings, and the result was a Major Allied Victory, pretty easy, but there were some anxious moments and of course great entertainment. Now to finish up the game against the Allied AI.
  15. I've made many comments many times about the naval features of SC and I've got comments in the thread about the PT AI 1.03. What my comments are in reference to is the scale of Global and perhaps the CTV changes which may provide a different perspective. If you want to discuss the already obsolete PT, I've written about my opinions fairly often in the time period after the release and I will reiterate those comments for Global when the time comes. I believe, and this is only for me, that the improvements to Global are bettered served after I've had some time to sample the mechanics. Ludi and I have already conversed about the sub aspects and I do believe that all naval vessels in ports are to easily damaged by double strike CVs. I don't prefer double strike CVs as represented in PT because there are too many of them, but in Global their numbers may be certainly diminished so the impact of their feature is lessened. The interaction between the SC pieces is very delicate IMO and many things that are perceived as impactual may not necessarily be so in Global, that's all I meant to imply.
  16. While I agree with a lot of what DD has said, at the risk of being redundant I'm going to withold further opinions and await the Global release. Its not that far off and I know that it will share many of the features from the other releases, but to comment without the context of play orientation is a bit presumptuous at this point.
  17. Hmmm, I'm pretty sure that the right path to follow although I don't play SC1 anymore and I have given away all my games, removed all from HDs. Did you get a message when you ended your turn that the file had been created? Even if you didn't there should still be a multiplayer folder. Try starting a Hotseat game and then end your turn and see if you can locate that file, the E-mail file folder should be close to that location.
  18. Drew, start a PBEM game like you were the one initiating the first turn (Axis) and this will auto create the PBEM file in the Multiplayer folder. Play a one unit move and end the turn, you can later delete this file. Now you can navigate to the multiplayer folder and see the PBEM file, this is where you will send your opponents turns.
  19. Don't forget to reload all you want, too! I love adversity, I'm sure you'd be a worthy opponent in any manner, but I'll gauge my success on the presumption that after we're through you'll be able to beat any SC player.
  20. Surely Bo I don't have to remind you that nothing is free, always a cost, someone pays somewhere, the monetary transactions being the cheap ones. The real treasures have a much higher price, the sacrificial degrees can extend to the loss of your life...this life. A fitting analogy, the Alamo, the place is sacred to us Texicans, been there many times and just stood.....stood.....steadfast....as I feel those founding fighters did, like our Fathers did when this country was created, a serious leap of faith, a trust in a higher power, now there's a cost..........for everything else there is mastercard. Ohhh and Bo, remember, I put my pants on one leg at a time, just as I'm sure that you do to. Whatever class that is, we are both a member and I would be more than honored to play a game of Global with you.
  21. Sure do like doing business with a professional developer like Hubert Cater, calm, collected, receptive, the epitome of the way commerce should be done for goods and services. See, I consider, and it seems HC somewhat concurs, that the final beta testing begins with his presentation of a solid piece of stable software. You know Hubert, this kind of culminates the SC evolution with this base code. I'm trying real hard to look down the road for further progress with this engine, excluding the Global tweaks, but it looks kind of cloudy. Here's to your enlightened vision to conjure up a revolutionary new platform, raising my caballito of Cuervo, Reserva de la Familia, and toasting your successful endeavors....hear, here! And thanks for such a wonderful series that SC is.
  22. OK I'm in. BF, HC, Moon, etc. I would appreciate a hard bound manual and I'm willing to pay extra, you can add it to my CC order....just keep it reasonable.
  23. Sorry Bo, I operate in spongenomics(my word), absorbing all the good things I witness other people doing and learning from the collective intelligence of billions. Something is to be credited to everyone, even you have not lost your usefulness.
