  1. Hamsters, queries about he Peng thread, million questions about the CMMOS (which I had problems at the start, but I didn't feel the need to start the umphteenth thread about it. Just read the readme a bit more carefully and tested it a bit more...), opinions, opinions the prequal, stoopid questions about the arrival of the patch (can't you play without it ? I may be alone with this then, but I seem to enjoy the game EVEN without the patch...), stoopid questions about stuff that has been answered a million times already and MasterGoodale (in general). No wonder we have to bumb the FAQ so often. PPL should really learn to READ (first just to see the FAQ and then to read it) and to use the Search function the good and savvy board designers gave us (to see if their question has already been asked and answered, like several are, in this thread). My bumb of the night --> *BumB* And to save a bit of Soddballs time and sanity, a charity bumb --> *BumB*
  2. Many thanks, downloading 'em now. Already got 90% of 'em all (gotta love VDSL), but one is resisting, maybe some problems at the ftp (mr.Newbies great T-34/85 '44 late)? Tried a thousand times, no go. Now to SAUNA and then to test 'em out. Thanks yet again.
  3. There are lists on this forum of the translated and numbered sound files of different nations in the game (inc. the finns ), just record/find a suitable wav, rename it and overwrite the file you wish to change. I'm not familiar with the details, but they too are explained somewhere in this forum, sorry to say it but; do a search. Or maybe some sound modder will help you in this thread after my futile attempt cheers
  4. I think they actually know that already. Turku couldn't be on this fine globe we call our home and Earth without a purpose. And that purpose is to be the arse of the world. We finns actually have almost the same amount of jokes about the stupidity of the inhabitants of Turku as we do of swedes in general. I suspect there is a certain city/state in every country renowned by their own countrymen for being the most (insert an insulting adjective here) of the world. But Turku is still the a$$ of the world. One smiley just to show that, in a way, I'm kidding --> (edited to insert the word BUMB into this BUMB, BUMBing this thread where it belongs: at the top) BUMB [ November 16, 2002, 06:24 PM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]

  6. Dang. Sorry 'bout that, had one box crossed that I intended not to. Now my e-mail address should be visible, but just in case: v.turunen@mail.suomi.net Thanks again and sorry for the extra labour.
  7. http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=001208 Tero Mäenpää was the poster. Still funny
  8. Yep, I had a sound finnish kalsarikänni last night (kalsarikänni can be roughly translated as 'to sit in your home, in your underwears, all alone drinking beer'). Waited for you all to arrive but you buggers never did. BUMB you all to Turku (the finns, being UBER, have built a city just to have a place to call the a$$ of the world. Uberfinns think of everything). so, BUMB you, BUMB you all to Turku. feeling a bit woozy now, gotta go lie down for a bit more
  9. Interested as well. Thanks for coming up with a way to transfer one of the main attractions of PG and SP series to CMBB (and thanks to Wreck also who, if I understood correctly, made these rules for CMBO from where you adapted them to CMBB). Been waiting for something like this. Please e-mail me the rules, address in the profile. Thanks in advance.
  10. What is this *BUMB* ? I do not understand ? *BUMB* is a total mystery to me. I've seen *BUMB* happening lots of times, but I've never understood what it means. *BUMB* is a total stranger to me. I would appreciate any knowledge of this phenomena know as the *BUMB*. *BUMB* seems to be a very important part of this conversational forum. What *BUMB* really is escapes me, but maybe in the near future I shall receive the inner logics and knowledge of the *BUMB*. Thanks in advance (*BUMB*): SaTyR (*BUMB*)
  11. Yep and only after five days of playing. I couldn't make up my mind about the color of the fluff between my toes in five days. But hey, CMBB's not everyones cup of tea
  12. Right now I can't access the site, I keep having HTTP-500 internal server errors... Never had d/l problems before, may be because I'm on ADSL </font>
  13. A) Yeah, there should be a more simple way to get off from skis. And/or/but (IMHO) ski troops should be able to hide. The workaround wasn't mine, somebody pointed it out some time ago in a similar thread. That might have happened . I just finished a small 700pts QB (allied attack, defended with the finns, ski troops). Wiped the floor with the attacking AI (which isn't hard at all and I had the terrain working for me). I used the skis to quickly move from my secondary lines to my main line after the enemy got a taste of 120mm mtr (139 inf cas. 3 BA's ) barrage. Every squad got about 20 kills (my 82mm on-board mtr's got 3 BA's each ! Never thought of using them that way) and the enemy was completely routed in 20 turns. So a defence without hide or foxholes CAN be done maybe not against a human opponent tho'.
  14. Sneak them around a bit, so they'll stop using their skis. A bit of a work-around I know, but ski troops are not designed for a rigid defence (maybe something like the Raate road would be better ). And since they were autopicked by the comp... work around it Hmmm... and btw. I can't really see why ski troops aren't allowed to hide with skis on. I did it when I was in the finnish army. Going prone with skis isn't hard (getting up is, but it can be done quite fast. I never forget those ski marches we made, those downhills and plummeting into the snow with a full backpack on *sigh* Man was it hard to get up. And yes, I'm a lousy skier). Using foxholes might prove a difficulty tho'. [ November 12, 2002, 07:59 AM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]
  15. Woohoo ! The finns, the finns are coming ! Btw. it was snowing this morning and the landscape is starting to look "winterish", just -12 degrees Celsius yet tho' but soon we'll hit the big -20. Can´t wait for the winterized finns, I'm getting in the feel of Talvisota (the Winterwar).
  16. Thanks for the patch update (especially the finn ones, cheers). Keep doing the good work BFC (the "bald 1" & all). Looking forward to D/L the patch. Cheers, SaTyR
  17. Almost got to bed, just a one last glance of the board... and what do I see ? My fav tank modded to a whole new class of AWESOME ! Thanks Kwazy. Now it's 0300hrs in Finland, I'm tired and sleepy, but STILL I'm going to install the mod just to try it out. And probably end up gaming the night away, oh well...

  19. Fine, the Colonel seems to have an opinion. He doesn't like CMBB. Why whine about the game here, why just not stop playing and move on to more "fun 'strategy' games" such as C&C or G.I Combat (or whatever) if those suit You better ? If I don't like something and do not see myself learning to like it in the future, I don't whine, I just stop tinkering with the damn thing and move on. Suggest You do the same.
  20. I see the "Withdraw" order as a "Let's get the hell out of here" order, where there is no organized withdrawal (they´re not firing for example) but a general rout. The "sarge" is not telling them to withdraw but to run as fast as they can (IMHO). So troops "withdrawing" and breaking (to routed or broken status) seem alright to me. Not all soviet soldiers were that fanatic or tenacious. Early into the war they surrendered in droves (not saying they weren't brave). It was mainly circumstances that "made" troops fanatic. So I can understand fanatic defenders in Stalingrad, but not in a normal QB on some rural backwater, hillbilly town. You didn't state what kind of fire were your troops under when they broke on the 60m dash. I've seen a single armored car stop a platoon advancing from over 300m. Those MG's are nasty, they drive back and rout troops so fast (which seems OK to me, I wouldn't cross open terrain even crawling on the ground when a vehicle mounted MG is firing... Seen one of those in "action" [it was an exercise only] and they're pretty darn accurate). Caught out in the open (maybe running even, not advancing ?), with fire pouring down from everywhere (MG, on-board mtr, IG ?), I don't wonder the troops brake/rout easily. Maybe they should, when again in cover and not receiving fire, rally to panic/pinned status faster ? Troops in cover can withstand a great deal of punishment, seen it happen numerous times. Again, circumstances make the heroes and the "cowards" Leaving entrenched positions is a problem as is the "popping out of hiding just to say good morning to the Ubertank". Hopefully they will both be addressed soon. Just my thoughts...
  21. Woohoo, somebody has "discovered" the exact same "tactic" that drove me away from playing the Steel Panthers series. This means some more micromanaging with covered arcs, which we luckily have in CMBB.
  22. Infantry and the space one squad uses is abstracted. Maybe one of the guys sneaks out through the backdoor and fires a faust ? Maybe the building is a bit damaged, walls knocked down & such ? The key is (IMHO) that when the position of a whole 8-13 men strong squad is abstracted and said to occuby a building, it can't be assumed that every man is inside the building all the time (how could they throw grenade bundles & such, through windows ? Should that be restricted outdoors only also ?). I have no problem with the current way of firing weapons inside of buildings (try placing 13 guys inside one small house and able them all to fire their weapons efficiently, maybe through one or two windows... FP should, if realisticly portrayed, drop a lot). Maybe in the rewrite we see these kind of actions carried out, but in CMBB, abstraction is the only thing we have.
  23. Look's great. Can hardly wait. This is something that CMBB winter battles sorely needed. Suggestion: maybe some more snow on the boots and trousers (they will be crawling around... AND using the "high kneel stance" ) And a request: please mod the finns next ? As a finn, they seem very odd to me without winter camo & such.
  24. Me and my regular TCP/IP opponent Ham (cheers) played one heck of a nailbiter just a couple of weeks ago. Exactly 50:50 victory %. Night, russian probe (Ham as the soviets), EFOW, small town with flags near my edge on small hills, little cover (the night was enough tho', 75m visibility) and 1000 pts for the defender (again, IIRC, might have been 1500). The battle raged on with pre-planned barrage by Ham to shake my right flank and to finally shatter it with assaulting SMG squads (the barrage killed off platoon and a half + support weapons). His center push to capture one big flag and the ground between the second big flag on the right was stopped by my armor killing 5 of his 6 t-34 and a barrage of 105mm artillery (2 FOs) stripping him out of his covering infantry. The soviet tanks were "identified" as light tanks until contact . My 3 StuGs gave 'em a nasty sting and my infantry finally stopped his infantry near the center flag. In the end Ham held 1 small and 1 large victory flags and the last, large flag was contested. He had no more force to push forward and I had no infantry to support my StuGs and try and take the flags back. My StuGs cost him the victory, 5 destroyed t-34s making up the cost of losing 2 flags easily. As I stated, victory percentages 50:50, you can't get closer to a draw than that. So yes, there have been some close results in CMBB I admit that it IS easier to lose big time in CMBB than in CMBO. Playing the minor Axis nations against the soviets late in the war for example. But winning isn't everything, right ?
