  1. That kind of sleigh Hans described translates to PANSSARIREKI in finnish. PULKKA is something even a single man can drag when skiing. Still used by skiers in winter (wandering treks in Lapland) and little children for toboggan downhill "skiing". There are no skis on PULKKA, REKI is the correct translation. Finns used (and still do) a larger kind of pulkka, AHKIO during the winter months of both wars (winter war and the continuation war). Same desing as pulkka, but larger and heavier (I know, dragged AAMGs, tents and other jääkäri platoon equipment on those horrid things while on ski marches).

  4. Bwahahaa ! Talking about reindeer and airbursts, there have been a couple of occasions, where reindeer owners have driven their stock to an announced and certified mortar firing zone (just to get money from the government). A whole stock of dozens of reindeer shredded to pieces by 120mm mtrs. Merry xmas st.nick (thanks for the crappy presents, I needed those extra socks...), others enjoy your reindeer stake (or sumfink).
  5. Yes, while on the topic: a way to script the AI. I´ve made a couple of scenarios (so I'm not that much of a grog) but I really do not enjoy watching the entire (let's say) south wing of the attacking russians first move besides the north wing, regroup and then attack, wasting turns and ruining the consept of the scenario (and making historical scenarios hard to reproduce). This said, I'm not an editor grog. Maybe there is a way to "force" the AI to attack along a certain route (maybe via placing small victory location flags ?). IIRC there is a possibility in SPWAW to make the AI advance through waypoints (hence making certain groups attack certain parts of the defending line). I'd like to see this in CM series (actually my only gripe, but maybe I'm too used to SP series type of scenario editing). Sorry for the typos and all those brackets (I'm drunk)
  6. I too want to wish you all a merry xmas and a happy new year. I'm drunk, my father gave me christmas whisky and I opened my new year's bottle of vodka (mental note: buy a new bottle). So everything is just fine, eventhought I missed the short timeframe the shops were open and missed out on the beer. On new years eve I've planned to buy rockets and other paraphelia (molten TNT & such) and a pair of 2e protective glasses.. and yes, drink too much alcohol and THEN (and only then) go out to the field nearby and then fire everything up. And enjoy. OR get too pissed and fall asleep. But nevertheless I´ll have FUN. Just like I´ve had with CM, and this forum. Xmas cheers allround !
  7. Are you eyeballin' my unit, Barrold? Are you eyeballin' me?! I can't be havin' with disrespect. If you can't honour the man, honour the Office of Master of the Universe! You want to walk right, Barrold. You want to walk in the light, you do. You want, I know you want, to do the right thing, make the right choice, and look me in the eye when you do so! So you bring your eyes up, laddy, from where yer staring now, and tell me that you want to see me ensconced as Master of the Universe. Sing out, now, lad! Tell everyone that you're on board with me as Master of the Universe.</font>
  8. I too vote for She-Manachai to be the master of the universe. She/he/it is so butch
  9. Time passes by so quickly when having fun... A TCP/IP game took 6 hours to complete, that's probably my longest battle. Can't be sure how many hours have passed when playing through the night, QB after QB, rehearsing, testing equipment and tactics. That's probably one of the signs of a good game ?
  10. GRRRRRGRRGGRRR ! I'm not MasturbatingsGoodEnuff's lackey, I'm his right arm ! Now I'm going to shake, rattle and whip you up a load of hot MOLTEN TNT ! GGGRRGRGRGRGRGRRRGH !
  11. Going to put some hot molten TNT under this thread to bumb it back to the first page... Done ! Light the fuse, duck and cover... GRRRRRGRGRGGRGRGRRRR Ka-BLOOEY ! Thread flies in a nice arc landing smack on top of the first page: *BumB* Did I hit it ?
  12. A Regular german mechanized panzer rifle squad caused 93 casualties. Thats my new record (forgetting artillery and tanks)... In the end the squad got stomped on by a horde of conscript ruskies, so the only cross they will be getting is a wooden one.
  13. Yeah... against a seasoned veteran you should be Against the AI KVs and T-34s are easy, I even destroyed one with conscript italian TD (forgot the name, but under 100m and from the back) and one with a conscript pioneer squad (same QB). AI on the offence is really poor... luckily I got a challange from my friend vie e-mail today, off to send a setup
  14. Hehee, seems like everybodys after your mod, I barely d/l at 1kt/s, mod database is so clogged up. Not used to this kind of wait (with my VDSL) but hey, I bet this is worth it (and yes, I do remember the time when I had a modem... 50+ MB would have been too much for me, with pay per hour taxes ). Thanks !
  15. There are many things in this thread that provide newbies with information, usually about stuff that has been discussed many times during the history of this forum. Still the same questions appear. People seem to be unable to read the FAQ, or maybe to understand it is a bit too much to ask. Still we try and bumb the thread up again and again. Thanks for appreciating our "work" so much James Crowley. And Terrapin, I've had Conscript squads keep up with Move orders alongside Green squads who are advancing. A lot depends on the terrain, or so it seems (and incoming fire, if any).
  16. Late war SMG heavy german squads. Suite my style of play perfectly. 'Fausts get the tanks and the SMGs any troops that wonder in too close. With a good HQ and some thought put into placing the squads, they can stand just about anything.
  17. HC ammo is nice to have around, but they come few and have a limited chance to hit. And moving an eggshell SP IG around a small map with all those ruskie ATRs is asking for trouble. AT guns (and IGs too) are quite hard to use on the offense. They are slow and when on the move, vulnerable. The only thing I trust when encountering ruskie heavies is infantry. Pioneers are the best choice. Tricky to use, getting close enough is quite hard, but smoke and suppressing the enemy infantry helps. Remember, that the monster KV can't be everywhere at once. Give it something to toy with, move into better positions and make it play the game on your rules.
  18. My method: tell all of my friends/relatives/net buddies about the greatness of CMBB, making them try out the demo and possibly getting them to buy the game. Have several opponents already mainly TCP/IP, but I've tried out PBeM (both fun and in being different, suitable for playing different opponents when timetables clash)
  19. 1st of all, nice of you to post the same question twice, with 8 mins between the posts... 2nd, this along with many other CMMOS questions have been answered in detail by Gordon many times ("do a search") 3rd, to my recollection, the zip files can be ANYWHERE, they are intended to be stored in ...\cmmos\cmbb\mods folder (but I for one am having some troubles storing them there, so I created a different folder, works just fine now) but they DO work placed anywhere on your harddrive
  20. Oh, look at what I found: a *BumB* ! Here, you can have it. That'll send you right to the top where you belong ! No need to thank, just doing my job...
