  1. Great read, as usual with your posts, thanks. I've tried using the tactics described in the text when tackling early war heavy soviet tanks. Isolation by artillery and then close assault with infantry works great. I have a saved file where my 122mm (finn) howitzer barrage hits a soviet T-34 platoon straight on, with a couple of TOP PENETRATIONS and a great brewups after that. Saved a lot of infantry that way. Then molotovs for the survivors when the soviet infantry panicked away. It's a small chance that the raining shells hit a tank on the deck or on the top, but it can happen. Need to use heavy artillery though.
  2. With all those polar bears and killer reindeer running around ? HECK NO ! Beer and potatochips are the only supplies I'll risk my life for. Everything apart from those is excess, which I do not need. I remember a time, when I had to go to the mailbox, to get my copy of CMBB... I'm glad it was summer, so I didn't freeze so bad and the bears and wolves were still hunting in the countryside. We still had killer reindeers, but you can tell when they attack from the horrible screech, just like the Stukas. Those were the days of DANGER and FEAR !
  3. And GRRRRRWWWWWWW or sumfink... Back to the top from the 2nd page, before I go to the store to buy some beer and potatochips, Valencia vs. Ajax on the telly tonight... *BumB*
  4. And a lot later, a VERY TIRED (exhausted even) little *BumB* (been working on this essey 4 hours straight, it´s 0400hrs in the winter wonderland)... But a man's gotta *BumB* what a man's gotta *BumB* FAQ goes up where it belongs, and SaTyR goes to bed, where he (it?) belongs...
  5. Sorry to say this, but IMHO the Turan skirt has four pink spots, two on the top right corner of the skirt (when looking at the picture attached to the mod in the Mod database), and two in the lower parts, one next to the first "seam" (from the right) and one in the lower right corner(ish). Either they really are pink spots or I'm in need of new glasses. Looking at the pic when making the decision to d/l, pink spots don't give a good first impression. It could be just the pic tho'. Maybe you should check it out (I haven't downloaded, I'm afraid of everything pink ). After looking at the pic more closely, there seems to be one pink spot in the turret skirt as well (near the middle of the skirt, at the "bottom", where there is a small patch of snow) and there may be one in the rearmost "seam" of the skirt (the pic is from such an angle that one can't be sure). Sorry to sound whiny, but I just think they should be mentioned. If I'm seeing something that isn't there, I'll gladly shut up and buy new glasses OTOH, if there are pink spots on the skirts, maybe you should examine your mods a bit more closely before uploading... 6. http://www.dr.dk/skum/cigarfar/growl.shtm Old, yes, but still funny. Just wanted to post this in the spirit of MasterGoodales new fondness in growling. GRWWWWL to you too MG [ November 23, 2002, 06:28 PM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]
  7. Please, some pics for us less fortunate enough (not fast enough to be able to visit the tripod site of yours). And in concert of the posters above, I´m using your CMBO grass mod and I've loved it since I D/L it. Great to see you start with CMBB (with Gordon "the Great" leaving the mod scene and all, sorry to see you go...). (edited to say tripod instead of bipod) [ November 22, 2002, 07:27 PM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]
  8. Now this is not funny ! Here I am, drinking beer (in my underwear, in a true 'kalsarikänni' fashion, oh so familiar with the FAQ crew now-a-days) and generally missbehaving, and the FAQ has dropped to the 2nd page ? ARGH say I and between my gulps of beer I BUMB as hard as I drink: *BumB*
  9. AutoRules... not 100% sure what that means but IF I guess correctly (but I guess I do and two guesses make one right, or sumfink) we'll all be happily surprised. Keep up the good work, I've had plenty of fun with the rules so far.
  10. Oh, and this night I'm going to sleep 'cos I have to work the whole weekend through. Last bumb of the night/evening for me, before Tigrii/PantherG/whatever starts to post, tonight I just don't have the energy to bumb the FAQ a thousand times just because of PPL like him/them. Tomorrow maybe more CMBB scenario editing (finns vs. soviets...) and late night bumbs, but for THIS night; good night and *BumB*
  11. A gigantic "The patch is out" *BumB*... Why do PPL start threads saying that the patch is out when the "official" "the patch is out" thread is still going on ? Don't they know how to read ? Is it possible to know how to write but not to read ? Still happy that the patch is out, have to see how the fixes change the game (if they even do). Without further ado: *BumB* Oh, and include this thread to the FAQ: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=003665 (edited to say cheese) [ November 21, 2002, 03:47 PM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]
  12. To answer the question, yes. I take far more infantry instead of AFVs. I've always believed that infantry is the king of the battlefield (in the end) and CMBB is a fine example of that. I've witnessed myself taking the extra platoon or so of infantry instead of a tank just to get more "bang for the buck". Especially early german tanks are so vulnerable that I usually take infantry instead. Infantry and infantry AT assets (beginning with pioneers and ending in AT guns). And yes, I usually play as the axis. And yes, I usually play the finns when I play the axis side (I've actually started to convert some of SPWAW scenarios to CMBB, the battles including finns. Next in line Summa and Winter War scenarios [even tho' it isn't included in CMBB it can easily be "simulated"], thanks to Ukka for the 1st Summa map btw. If I get something worth publishing done, I´ll upload them somewhere).
  13. 4th bumb of the night, 3rd seems to have gotten lost somewhere in cyberspace *BumB*
  14. Ah, the natives seem to be restless tonight, back to the top where you belong ! *BumB*
  15. Stayed up all night making a scenario for CMBB. Made a really nice map and took the time to think about the forces, write the briefings etc. Tested it from both sides (against the AI) and found it totally unplayable (against the AI) for several reasons: when attacking, the AI never went for the big victory flags, it just took the smaller ones outside the main battle zone AND LOST. When defending, the AI lost the smaller flags and tried to counter-attack... 2 platoons against 2 companies plus armor support In a way it was funny, AI leaving foxholes and great defencive positions to counter-attack a superior force... But OTOH, I spent so much time with this one, that I got a bit angry when all my work was flushed down the toilet. Ho-hum, maybe after the patch This rant serves as a *BumB*, so my scenario DID achieve something Sad to see the FAQ drop to page 2, so up you go ! It's 7.30 am in Finland and I'm off to bed
  16. Add this Tigrii guy to the FAQ. Seems to start threads here and there like MasterGoodale. Needs to be on the FAQ for the same reasons as our friend MG (maybe they're twins ?). Just took my socks off and counted: on the first page there were 10 (!) threads started by Tigrii or PantherG. So we may be dealing with TRIPLETS ! Oh, and *BumB* (edited to take my socks off) [ November 19, 2002, 09:15 PM: Message edited by: SaTyR ]
  17. Please add the CMMOS thread (this one: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=003484 ) to the FAQ. Add a bit where japinard and all the other patch waiting, can't-live-without-it whiners are explained (like the mastergoodale waffelgrenadier cheer thread... dropped of my seat when I saw the explanation on the FAQ, funny it was) Maybe add the Stalingrad pack ( http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=003499 ) to the FAQ. About skis: ( http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=003209 ) Just some suggestions, feel free to discard... Oh yeah: an early morning (for me it is ) *BumB*
  18. My OS is Windows 2000 Pro (with SP3). When I placed the mod zips in ...\cmmos\cmbb\mods, added the rulesets and the mods in CMMOS (the preview images were shown at this point), it never gave me the options on the mod selection screen, I alt+tabbed, went to ...\cmmos\cmbb\mods and manually examined the mod zips... they were all EMPTY. And by empty I mean they had a size informed in the description but when tried unpacking nothing showed inside. Went back to the CMMOS, tried viewing the mods again and the previews were gone too (I could remove the mods but couldn't then add them back, for the zips were EMPTY). I am no guru so I do not know what causes this on my (and by the posts here, some of yours) system, but the problem for me is minimal, just re-downloaded the zips and relocated them to a different folder (aptly named modzips... clever me ) and PRESTO ! everything works just fine. And I repeat, I'm no guru, but I've worked with PC systems from the days your main OS was DOS, so I just tried again, tried different solutions and came up with a way that works (for me), didn't feel the need to start the umphteenth HELP! of ANGRY! thread about it. Can see how modem users and PPL used to modern PC "plug&pray" tech might get a bit upset tho' (this rant brought to you by: "Nerves: tell me why to bumb the FAQ thread again just for it to descent back to the oblivion because of idiotic whiney threads"). Glad to see you intended the ...\cmmos\cmbb\mods folder to work the way I first tried to use it and glad that on some PPLs OS it does. I't doesn't on mine for some reason and just wanted to give a warning or an advice to those having problems like me. Thanks again for the CMMOS 4.0, it's great now that I got it working.
  19. Just to add something I noticed: when installing the CMMOS the program makes a folder x:/.../cmmos/cmbb/Mods DO NOT put the .zip files of your mods into this folder ! Somehow they will not work. Had this happen to me and my friend, discussed it via irc and found this to be the problem. Downloaded the .zips again, put them into a different folder and CMMOS worked just fine. IIRC there is no mention in the ReadMe about this, maybe because it hasn't been noticed ? I'm not sure if this happens to everybody, but it happened to me and my friend almost at the same time. For somebody having problems, hope this helps...
