  1. Apologies, I thought you had this card. You know, I took a peek at that Club Overclocker forum... it seems that some FX5900 owners who did the GPU 5950 BIOS burn lost some functionality, like AGP x8, etc. One poster even burned it back to the original BIOS... and my eVGA is not on the list of manufacturers that they have tried it with. Looks interesting, but I'll hold off on that one for now...
  2. Wacky. I see your card normal specs as being 400 MHz GPU/ 700MHz memory, so I wouldn't be too disappointed with 441/850 respectively. Stand by... Edit: I just experimented with the auto-detect overclock again. This time, the GPU OC was basically the same (455 MHz) but it returned a memory OC of 960 MHz, which is a bit higher than 850. I re-booted to make sure the "retain settings" box worked and it did. The only strange thing that occurred was a drop in refresh rate from 85 Hz to 60 Hz when I first did the auto-detect process. Hang on, wanna check one more thing... Edit II: Gurra, if your game, try going into your BIOS settings and disabling "Fast Writes" for your video card, then re-test and see if you still get crashes, etc. While you're there tell us what your AGP aperature is set to... 3. Does the problems go away when you return the FX5900 to normal clock specs?
  4. I'd like to know what mobo you're using and if there's any OC'ing going on. This is the download page for the free version of Sisoftware Sandra, an analysis toolset that will provide a temp. reading for your CPU (as long as your mobo has the sensor). It will also give you a bunch of other useful info. Let us know how hot you're running...
  5. Interesting, because my Nvidia 'OCing tab says "core slowdown threshold - 145 deg. C". I still run at 44 deg. core after playing the Total War:Rome demo. What is the nature of your rig on the CPU/mem/OC front?
  6. Updated and run your antivirus software, everything clean?
  7. You didn't list your specific video card... is it a eVGA too? What is your CPU temp, by the way? You listed your case temp, but not your CPU...
  8. Hey man, here's a posting I did not long ago. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=004641 I seem to remember the max GPU temp before meltdown was something fairly high, like 145....
  9. I assume you're trying to play at 800x600, not 1024x768...
  10. Do you "see" all of the network machines on your computer?
  11. That Celeron is no track star, either...
  12. Okay, easy now. Tell us about the rig, which CM you're playing, the OS, - are you familiar with your BIOS settings? What is the AGP aperature set to? What motherboard? Have you manually gone into DxDiag and tested your DirectX components?
  13. Hey man, Try this forum and see if you can hunt down a solution - I've used it many times in the past with great success. web page Good luck
  14. Go into the folder for Combat Mission - there you'll see a small (2k) file called "CM Prefs". Delete this file, and start CM over again. This time, you'll get various resolution choices (equal to desktop or less)... this small file contains your preferences for CM, including the screen resolution.
  15. Nah, the fog is a big immersion factor, worth the effort. I've read some great things about the GF 6800GT card, which isn't quite as fast as the Ultra, but still doubles your frames rates and only requires a single Molex connector and a 350 watt power supply. Also - you might think more along the lines of the future (CMX2). Traditionally Nvidia has dominated in games programmed in OpenGL 3-D apps, which CMX2 is being coded in...
  16. Alright, bro, late work night off the cuff answers. The 56.72 drivers are a few months older, but worked for nearly everyone. Did you re-install DX9? Are you familiar with your motherboard's BIOS settings? If so, I want you to try a few things. Turn off Fast Writes, lower the AGP mode from x8 to x4 (believe me, it ain't gonna make a difference with your setup) and change your AGP apeture to 64 MB. Re-test. Post the findings. Then Schrullenhaft will actually assist you...
  17. So, first re-install DX9, then completely remove your Nvidia driverset. Install the 56.72 series drivers, and test. Seriously, Jim - no changes to your system settings of late? CMAK ran fine, then all of the sudden started to bomb out? What OS are you running?
  18. E-mail me your address and I'll send you 3x256 MB PC-133 dimms (total 768MB) for nothing. Keep in mind that only WinXP/2000 will deal with greater than 512MB correctly...
  19. You are incorrect, sir. The 5900's 256-bit (vs. 5700's 128 bit), 8 pipeline architecture (the 5700 has 4 pipes) leaves it in the dust, even in stock form. It's all about the bandwidth, man...
  20. Check out the Better Nvidia Performance post, Rune, your card will really take advantage of it...
  21. Yeah, you can thank Bill Gates for that one.
  22. Hey all. Just wanted to make a link to the GeForce registry mod, which enables Nvidia's own overclocking tools within its driver set. There's also a temp. reading for FX chipset owners. Please read the directions (which are very simple) and choose "Auto Detect" for a safe OC. There's a box to check, too, in order to boot to your new settings every time. My results - on an eVGA FX5900 non-Ultra, it boosted the GPU freq. from 400 MHz to 461, and the memory from 800 to 850. My 3DMark2003 score went from 5170 to 5830, and the card's temp has remained the same (44 C). Enjoy.
