  1. Hey, I was mostly joking about the "Stryker friendly" environment. I just couldnt get out of my mind how deadly are Flaks for HTs in CMx1. You just ruined my gamey plans of massed ZU-23 AAA fronts intercepting the Stryker brigades ATGs dont matter that much, I fully understand that extra workload for a somewhat cosmetic addition is not worth it. Its good to hear SPG 9 is in though. As for mortars, I thought it wont be hard for you to use the US animations etc to add some tactical variety to the syrian side, beyond the AK&RPG duo for the sake of gameplay. I've read some accounts of them being used effectively even by insurgents(IIRC in the kiowa down incident, where repeated airstrikes were called to silence a mortar position or in OIF in Nassiriyah). Sure most times are inaccurate but are most insurgents really good with any of the weapons they use? Won't CMSF simulate some elements of the syrian army that are well trained and know how to use certain weapons better than the insurgents now in Iraq? Static ZUs are such characteristic weapons and so common in the mid east countries that I thought they could be in. They were occasionally used in OIF but then again Iraqis fought occasionally in OIF given the chaotic state of their army. Somehow I dont think Syria would be a copy of the Iraq war. Anyway, most games dont include half of the things you are putting in, and CMSF's quality will most propably make us forget all these little things that might be left out. Then again, we will always have the modules...
  2. Hmm..thanks. I'm dissapointed There are quite a few interesting syrian weapon systems that are being left out of CMSF. No ATGs, no ZSU-23s Shilka or AAAs, no on-map mortars, and I fear no recoiless rifles as well. Steve said that one reason ATGs are not in is because of the extra animation work. I think RR's animations are quite similar to the ATGs so maybe they are out too. Hope the ZUs arent out to make the game more "Stryker friendly"
  3. I was with the idea that ZU-23s are in
  4. Hope they are in. So far the syrian side feels a bit stripped of some useful weapons like ATGs and on map mortars. Especialy mortars. Blues will have their 60mm tubes, why not red side too. They are common in Iraq and mid east generally and perhaps the only indirect mean the syrians can effectively use.
  5. OMG..It's aliive!!! Fantastic job. They look smooth and believable or should I say unbelievable? And this is just a raw beta?? Keep em coming!
  6. In CMx1 a squad's weapons like grenades, panzerfausts were used only when the TacAI decided so. I was wondering if now the player, besides TacAI, can have access to such assets and manually order the unit to use them or not depending on the situation. Using RPGs for area targeting, lobing grenades through windows etc. Since we are going to see a lot of street fighting , grenade use in clearing buildings will be very common I guess. Also, unrestricted use of the RPGs by the player would be nice since IIRC they have been even used as a primitive "arty" weapon taking advantage of their self destruct timer. Syrians will be sort in everything from artillery/mortars/air support and it seems RPGs will be their main infantry support weapons. Some flexibility in their use will be a welcome feature. 7. It's nice to see CMSF maps coming to life bit by bit. One question though..will these provide any cover/concealment for troops? Do they affect LOS/LOF at all? I know that doodads are 99% decorative but are there any plans for including larger ones that can be tacticaly useful as well. Like the containers mentioned above or something like dumpsters or abandoned trucks/vans/cars etc. [ March 23, 2007, 06:21 AM: Message edited by: panzermartin ]
  8. Oh yes, Junk! Fantastic! How nice of you to add this stuff. I love the bus station with the Assad poster and all the new additions. Tracers and muzzle flashes are also spot on! The new running animations are also very intense. I see a nice mosque on the horizon too Bravo!
  9. If we accept the impossible case that they can make such state of the art CGI videos why dont they make one with an Abrams or something more dramatic than just the burning of an unguarded Bradley? There is definetely no fake here in my opinion.
  10. Damn..cant they think of a better looking protective armor? Not of importance to them and the troops but I dont want to see scores of moving cages running down the digital hills of CMSF
  11. The fake arguments are really weak. More like a try to deny the obvious by pointing silly details like they are physics and explosions gurus. The only edit I see is for emphasizing the moment of the explosion as seen in myriads others insurgent videos from Iraq and the fat pixels effect to hide the face of the bomber. As for the transition, it took a bit for the fire to become visible perhaps so they speed it up. And that towards the end was ammo cooking of right? So internal explosions and fire possible. Err, how this exploding, burnt out vehicle can be considered repairable?? The whole place looks like a hastily prepared US outpost. Nets behind, concrete barriers etc. The alley looks like leading to a dead end. So maybe soldiers are guarding only the entrance and the approach towards the vehicle, while there are some holes on the alley side from which the sneaky and obviously short guy passed through. The only alternative I can think is that the whole outpost was abandoned and so was the propably immobile vehicle. Perhaps they didnt have the means or time to blow it up.
  12. From what I can tell you just walk over them, no need to waste ammo. It seems that you'd be able to reduce a forest to flatland with hordes of side cars
  13. How trees affect los? Is hiding behind hills the only safe tactic to conceal your forces and mask your approaches to the enemy? It will be a let down if patches of trees cant block LOS. They were such an interesting terrain element in CM. This type of individual tree LOs will make battles chaotic with AT and MGs shooting you from nowhere and everywhere. 14. Excluding "Allahu Akbar" and other similar war cries is censorhip similar to the SS and swastika case. IF BFC wants to make this game a convincingly realistic, atmospheric and immersive experience all these things should be included. If not, we'll get a generic modern MOUT training simulator, colorless and dry.
  15. I'm hoping for these features too. How about noisy radio chat from friendly vehicle crews, FOs or units out of view? Would be useful when spotting enemies.
  16. Could this be Steve? He was really obsessed lately with that Stryker/Bradley debate http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cb4_1174174085 Otherwise we must assume that's an insurgent's act under the nose of US forces.
  17. Are you the former Iraqui information minister? All the best Andreas </font>
  18. Here is the video of the event: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cb4_1174174085 It looks abandoned, although in a seemingly perfect state. No sign of the crew, the red circle on the video indicates something but I cant really tell what.
  19. I think that custom buildings are an excellent solution, and they look pretty good too for what they are. I really hope you guys find a way to add just a little more character to the 3d world without too many headaches.
  20. Some "arab" buildings too These must be twice as difficult to mix with the CM engine due to the custom window/door/balcony options. I wouldnt mind though some hard coded characteristic types with no modification options. Something like "flavour" buildings. Tents look nice too. 21. Since CM was superb in the voice acting part, I was wondering what can we expect to...hear in CMSF. It would be great to feature authentic arabic language, even radioed voice comms from distant units out of view or vehicles/tanks FOs etc. It would be an immersion boost if you could hear distorted noisy voice comms from units spotting enemies, enganging or under fire and in need of help.
  22. In game, as long as the syrians get ZU-23 AAs, Strykers should be smoked right? Can they withstand spraying 23mm APs?
