  1. Yep, that's it, it runs now..but I get some dll error once I open mission
  2. Very nice videos. Some more types of palm trees(biger trunks, shorter etc) wouldnt harm though. They all seem identical with different facings. Ok, except after being beheaded by the arty strike.
  3. I think you got it right! Apparently, most of the complaining seems to be from people who bought the game (money = emotions) without having played the demo!!! That makes sense, but they should blame their impatience and not the game!! Best regards, Thomm </font>
  4. Some standing walls or cement columns left even in the final stage of destruction would be better than a flat out block. I liked the way the building sinks after the hit. Very realistic.
  5. I dont think people need someone to tell them not to buy the game. There is a demo out there to try on their own, dont you think? I waited for the demo before ordering, I cleary understood what I was expecting from the final product and I think it was worth the money.
  6. Wow..better than I expected. Animations,(a bit hoppin though), new building details, superb lighting/glare effects and great sounds. Hey, are you guys really only 7?
  7. I like the game but 90% of the time there is no way to tell if your armor is safe behind trees, even behind the Schwarzwald... My T60 was spotted and destroyed by the PZIVC on the top center of the picture through a dense row of tall pines. Is it possible to fix this? Introduce dense tree areas that block los and are only passable by infantry? Graphics dont tell the truth here. There is indeed some accuracy penalty for shooting through trees but in cases like this there should be no possible way to hit a target.
  8. Hmm..I dont have SP2 installed. Maybe that can cause decreased performance on my dual core. I'll give it a try, thanks a lot!
  9. No, I didnt find such option in the BIOS.
  10. My p4 is "dual core" but not the newer intel core2 duo. Dont know the difference. Must be slower though. I checked the nvidia control panel and no threaded optimization option was there. Maybe the game takes advantage of only the single 2.8ghz which must be a bit slow If I had a cheaper 3.4 single core, TOW would run better?
  11. Most missions run fine, I dont have the 3-5 FPS problem some people are encountering. But in the Seelow scenario for example they can get as low as 7-8 when 10+ tanks are active.
  12. I'm curious, can you enjoy the game even when multiple tanks appear on screen? It is most propably either a cpu or ram problem. While paused the game is smooth as silk even when maxed out. Tank calculations seem to kill the frame rate. P4® D dualcore 2.8 1GB ram GeForce 7600GT XP
  13. I have 1 gig of RAM. I'm curious if others with the same RAM ammount can play the game to the max? No unplayable frame rates though. Rest is a decent machine I think. P4® D dual core 2.8 Geforce 7600GT XP
  14. Tanks dont only kill my infantry but my CPU as well. Does TOW processing take into account mass weight? I cant enjoy scenarios with more than 8-9 tanks rolling at the same time
  15. Yes its impressive. Its the IL-2 incredible damage modelling put on tracks. There are no abstractions here. What you see is what you get. The game engine is state of the art. Its the game design that has some flaws. I think people are used to Combat Mission's penetration hit% and hull down texts and ignore that TOW's calculations are perhaps even more sophisticated than CM's.
  16. I temporarily completely unistalled anti-virus, and with the 3rd try using DAP all went well. Still editor wont work though.
  17. I see..I'm afraid since its an Il-2 based engine we wont ever see a map editor
  18. Can you place additional Trees/bushes Houses/objects?
  19. OMG...please visit Combat mission forums immediately
  20. A performace fix when multiple tanks appear on screen. It is burning my cpu A fix in the LOS/LOF system? Maybe things were messed up with the change from limited LOF to realistic ranges. Perhaps the game engine wasnt designed to cope with it.
  21. G 19 S 16 U 15 P 13 O 16 80/100 Visuals are beautifully crafted(I dont like unit portraits though. They all look in terrible mood ). Sounds...I have mixed feeling about them. The sense of distant gunshots is great, nice footstep sounds on grass/water, vehicles sounds too, ricochets etc. MGs are weak and monotonous, gun sounds too, and I would love more intense and alarming voices from the troops. User interface is ok. No waypoints though is bad. I like the micromanagement of equipment sometimes. Overall, not bad from guys mainly making hardcore flight sims though. Gameplay. Infantry is somewhat chaotic and more fragile than I have used too. They dont last for long and they dont seem to know where to take cover to protect themselves. I cant understand LOS/LOF really. Dense trees should be in to make things more clear. Patches needed here to sort things somewhat. I love the ability to take cover behind moving vehicles though. Overall I like the feeling of the game and the engine seems solid. With little more BFC care it would easily score 10 more points from me.
  22. I love the details of this game. It has all the things that could make CM the wargame of the century. Beatiful, crisp visuals, attention to fine details, some really nice touches on landscape like small cottages etc, visual vehicle damage and a lot of things I haven't yet discovered since I'm stuck with the demo due to corrupted D/ls. On the other side there is some loose feel in TOW's combat...units not obeying your orders, jagdpanthers rotating their rears to the enemy, no waypoints(!!), tricky LOS/LOF(I'm not yet convinced that trees play any role in concealment) etc... Occupying buildings would be great in this game, since besides trenches, there is virtually no other place to fortify your infantry. I suspect that a single scout car can wipe out a whole inf company, if they are in any other place except a trench-TOW would easily stand for Trench ol' Warfare Despite these, I think TOW is a quality wargame. There is definetely much care, work and talent put in this product and its character is unique much as CM's is. I'm just hoping that 1C and Battlefront will continue to support TOW despite its problematic course and dated engine perhaps and gradually shape it into a wargame classic. PS. my wishlist: (Apart from buildings/on map mortars) -Waypoints -Dense patches of Woods that block Los and tank movement. -More cover/concealment for troops. -More intense audio responses when your troops are in danger/under fire etc. -Map editor -Mobile Heavy Mgs(why not??)
  23. I had turned off the anti-virus. Anyway I unistalled it completely now just to download the file and switched to DAP downloader.
  24. First time I downloaded I had a corrupted file error when extracting "maps.SFS". Retried setup to no avail. I ignored the error and completed install. When launching the game nothing happens and editor says "wrong version". I retried downloading the file (~7hours download/786dsl) and I get the same error when extracting "maps.SFS". Ignored it, launch it and nothing happens again. I tried unlicencing it too and it says it cant find my connection while I can get to battlefront.com..I'm giving up Maybe others experiencing the same no-launch problem have corrupted files as well without some notification? I'm using Download Express btw [ April 20, 2007, 03:47 PM: Message edited by: panzermartin ]
  25. Sound effects are of synth quality as in IL-2. They sound a bit fake especially mgs and explosions. There must be a way to mod them right?
