  1. I think that what you are experiencing is normal as far as starting out with smaller maps and slowly working your way up. I prefer to play battles where each side gets no more than 1500 points. It's a great game. I personally don't think there are currently any better war/strategy games on the market.
  2. I was referring to the statement made by Michael Dorosh. He said that, "tanks were over-represented in CM in any event." Not disagreeing, just trying to understand the point that's being made.
  3. The perfect tactic for learning micromanagement and an interesting short game. Not a perfect setting to learn offensive tactics or coordination. But coordination usually depends on micromanagement of each and every tank. Gruß Joachim </font>
  4. I do this often. I usually set up a QB both sides armor only. I select a veteran or better German big cat, Tiger or Panther. 1000-1250 points with Allies getting +10 to +25%. I set Allied experience levels to regular or better. Axis defends against Allied attack. Usually late 44. With my points I purchase one tank, just one. They usually end up with mostly T-34/85's with a smattering of IS-2's and SU-76's. They have between 12-15 vehicles to my one Tiger or Panther. I'm not sure what this teaches you but its very hard to survive this QB and its awfully fun to play. Their 85mm or better guns can very easily take your ubercat out if you play foolishly. One thing I feel it does is force you to bide your time and use the terrain wisely. Sometimes I'll use a Jagdpanther as well although because of the ammo loadout on the Jagdpanther, it generally runs out of AP before it can finish them all off. That's if it's lucky enough to get to that point. Try to make the map large or bigger. This way there is always the possibility for the AI to sneak a tank off to your side and take you out where your armor is weakest.
  5. Just saw this card at Newegg.com for $140.00: MSI nVIDIA GeForce4 TI4600-8X Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "G4Ti4600-TD8X" Good card! I am currently running two of the 4X AGP versions of this card. This ones 8X AGP... What are you looking to spend? [ February 24, 2004, 05:04 PM: Message edited by: Jack Carr ]
  6. Thanks for this information. Interesting comparisons for these cards. I still love my Ti4600. I recently upgraded my processor slightly, now at 2.25ghz, and made some cosmetic changes, fans and cables. Just checked the price on the 5950 cards and they are a little high for my pocketbook at the moment. [ February 25, 2004, 11:04 AM: Message edited by: Jack Carr ]
  7. Just downloaded this driver and finally replaced the old 30.82 driver with it. I can play Combat Mission with no problems at all. YEAH! I guess that means I can go out and get one of those fancy 5950 cards now. Currently have a GeForce Ti4600 128mb. Not really sure what I would pick up from that type of an upgrade besides an additional 128mb of memory on the card. How much faster are the 5950 cards over a Ti4600?
  8. Good point about advanced recon and intelligence already having played a part.
  9. This is great news! They finally have a driver that doesn't require you to alt-tab to see text and use all of the cards features? Am I reading this correctly or have I read something into it? This may allow me to come into the 8X AGP world and upgrade my video card. Thanks
  10. I feel that the gamey part is making blind assumptions even though you know as a player that the enemy has to be somewhere on the map. If your orders are to advance to a cetain point on the map and hold it why would you demolish every building in a town that you have to pass through unless you spot the enemy there? Seems like an incredible waste of time and material. As you pointed out in your example, with just a handful of tanks, those tanks are likely to expend almost all of their HE in the process leaving them with little protection for themselves. They would certainly be unable to effectively support any accompanying infantry. Let me know what you think about this. It's been bandied about quite a bit since I've been on the forum and it always seems to make an interesting conversation.
  11. How can calling down an artillery strike on enemy men and material be "gamey"? If you know they are there and feel that this is an effective way to disable them then I wouldn't say that it's gamey at all. Notice I said "you know they are there...". On the other hand, I would consider rolling a couple of tanks up to a village and knocking down every house in the village with the tanks even though not one enemy soldier has been spotted "gamey". That I consider "gamey". But if you have seen the tanks and have their general vicinity pinpointed I'd call down artillery in a heartbeat. For me, if you have seen the enemy, then go for it. Just because you know as a player that the enemy has to be somewhere so you just start calling in arty and knocking things down for no reason other than, "The enemy might be there"...to me that's "gamey". The real question is what kind of effect will an arty strike have on German heavy tanks?
  12. Neat effect! One of my favorite vehicles in the game to. Thanks.
  13. Windows XP should be able to use alot of RAM should the application require it. 512MB is quite a good amount and I wonder if the CM games would ever be able to use that much. My rig has 1GB of RAM. Overkill for the application but it's there if it ever does call on it.
  14. Personally, I like this camo scheme. Dirty and muddy will only make it better. Anyway, my two cents. Thanks for your continuing efforts to make CMBB a better game.
  15. I could be wrong, but I think once you get over 512mb of RAM it's generally overkill. WHat operating system are you running? I think Windows98 can't use over a certain amount anyway, not sure what that line in the sand is though.
  16. Good video to watch. "Men Against Tanks". I think Belle & Blade offers it. It's a German training film for how to fight enemy armor. The Germans used captured T-34's and KV-1's to make the film. Gives you a good idea of what the soldiers in the game are doing when an enemy tank gets close.
  17. IF CMX2 is going to be about the Fulda Gap then I'm not even interested in it. If that's the case then I say definitely get CMBB up to CMAK speed.
  18. I would love to see all the CMAK visual goodies in CMBB. In fact, I would pay another $45.00 just to get them in there (like I was buying the game for the first time). I think if BFC knew they could make money by bringing CMBB up to CMAK visual standards with the smoke, dust and slow brew-up's they might reconsider. How many of you would consider forking over some money to get CMBB up to the CMAK visual standards? I'm not even really concerned about the multi-turreted tanks but I would love to see the slow brew-up's and dust clouds kicked up by vehicles. I hardly play CMAK at all to be honest. I predicted that I wouldn't leave the Ost front much but purchased the game for myself and others (gifts)anyway.
  19. How about: "Your best guess for CMX2 System Specs". Here's my guess: ATTENTION - THIS IS JUST MY GUESS! System Requirements MINIMUM (PC/Mac): Processor: PC: 1.5GHz Processor (Athlon, Celeron, Pentium4, etc) Mac: G4 Operating System: PC: Windows 98/ME/XP/2000 Mac: Mac OS 8.6 to 9.xx (OS-X is supported!) Video Card: 64Mb Video card capable of running in 800x600 resolution or higher. System Memory: 256Mb of RAM Hard Drive Space: 3.5 Gigabytes of Hard Drive space required Other Requirements: CD-ROM Drive DirectX 9.0b compatible sound and video cards (PC) 28.8 modem or Network/Internet access for multiplayer System Requirements RECOMMENDED (PC/Mac): Processor: PC: 2Ghz Processor (Athlon, Celeron, Pentium4, etc) Mac: G4 Operating System: PC: Windows XP/2000 Mac: Mac OS 8.6 to 9.xx (OS-X is supported!) Video Card: 128Mb Video card capable of running in 800x600 resolution or higher. System Memory: 512MB of RAM Hard Drive Space: 3.5 Gigabytes of Hard Drive space required Other Requirements: CD-ROM Drive DirectX 9.0b compatible sound and video cards (PC) 28.8 modem or Network/Internet access for multiplayer That would be my guess. I took this format from BFC's own system spec page for CMBB.
