I've found that brit inf. is most likely the worst in the game for inf. vs inf. combat. Germans I find are the best hand down with all the SMG's avaliable. But the brits aren't useless. Always try to keep the enemy at arms length. Remember the rifles have a far longer range than SMG's of the Germans. They may get a couple of pot shots off at you but more likely you'll pin enemy squads down at long range where tose precious SMG's are out f range. If you must go into close quarters with Germans, try to avoid it, if you can't at least send in two squads for every German. I've found that's good insurence.

what exactly knocks out a tank?
History Buff replied to brummbar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
You reading the post of a 40k player right here. Come on it's still a good game. For knocked out tanks, well lets thank BTS for not doing tank battles simply as armour values like Games Workshop -
CMBB the Anti Tank Rifle and the Molotov
History Buff replied to Simon Elwen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'd personally love to see a few Molotov's thrown. I mean after the finns used them in 39, you'd expect the partisan army to have them avaliable. Though suicidal is a very accurate statement. -
yeah those maps are great, now all we need is CM:BB

I'd have to say it's because of the silloutte of the 251/1 is far better than the M3/A1. I mean you can spot an M3 a mile away while German 251/1, you need to be up close to work out what they are. Thats my experience.

BTS, question: CM:BB soldiers
History Buff replied to Scipio's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)

251/1 support or transport?
History Buff replied to Shadow 1st Hussars's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Support role here. They seem to have a high rate to cause casulties than MG teams in CM, so I use em supporting my advancing troops. I think they were scaled down a bit after the beta demo, cause I remember they caused a heft amount of casulties. But still they are great in support and maybe stick a high ranking officer in the rear most one gives him a bit of extra protection while helping troops halt their rout. -
What to do under arty fire?
History Buff replied to John D Salt's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
What I do? If I notice a single explosion, indicating a direction finder shot, I get em up and run like hell. If it is to late, I'll leave em there and let them take cover. Running is the worst thing by far you can do under arty fire. Get Low boys!!!!!!! If they are things like rockets, or 105mm +, well I'll think I'll run regardless cause your dead either way probably. -
If your opponent loves his tanks. (IE he would spend over a half his points on em), then take extra schreck or zook teams. If there is one thing tanks hate it's zooks/schrecks. Plus a couple os sharp shooters for the commanders. If he has some infantary as well, use your tanks against them. It's pretty good odds that if he spends S*** loads of pts on tanks he won't have to much in the way of inf. let alone tank busting infantary. So try to get your tanks against his infantary and your zook teams against his tanks. It may sound weird but I've done it once or twice with great results. When your opponent sees enemy tanks he'll probably charge em with his tanks. Forgetting you may have AT teams littered across the field.

Crocodiles. How to make them bite?
History Buff replied to jiggles's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Make Sure you are within Range I've had battles where my damn croc decided to move according to his own ideas and sat for a whole 30 odd seconds just outside flame range of a nice foxhole filled with troops. Surpress them with the 75mm, yes, then torch the krauts! Not more HE. Oh the agony -
BTS I think we got a glitch. I mean all 7 odd crew are still alive, just thier fixed position weaons is out of ammo, would you stay their?

I don't know about the rest of you, but It feels that i've played so many CM:BO games that it feels I've commanded all major engagements on the western front
-
I have a question which I'll soon be posting over at combat opinion as well. Do you think special HQ abilities, ie command, morale should cost 'x' amount of pts. Or what about, demo charges and Panzerfausts, special weapons in squads? I mean these little bonus' do infact determine some battles. Just a thought

I was looking through a WW2 dictionary at University today and there was an interesting peice mentioned about the Panzer 1. (Yes the really early model of the Panzer 4 in CM:BO ). It stated that these were mainly used only in the Polish campaign when they were deadly to the Polish Cavlary units, and in France. After then later models overtook them. Though aproximately 800 were in service at Barbarossa. Will these tanks be modeled. The question I am posing because their main armament of the standard model was 2 7.92 mm MG's. Good mobile armoured MG.

Macs are better than PC's, thats my view I only wish the two combat missions would/will be added to Game Ranger, a free Mac Multiplayer service, refer www.gameranger.com If at all possible could Battlefront.com just give it a thought? I know I'd definately play more Muli-player games against other people if it was easier to find em. Gamespy sucks!

*****BUMP***** I really liked your story General, I really think this is a good idea, but who has the expertise?
-
What I heard was that CM3 (Africa/Italu) and CM4 (Early Years) would be done after CM:BB, with the CM:BB engine if it is liked then CM:BO would be redone. Thats what I heard anyways.

Interview by Macgamer.com has a few bones!
History Buff replied to History Buff's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I wouldn't know, but it does look very similiar Great interveiw though, I particully like the last question's response that their is some other works beside combat mission in the battlefront.com pipeline Are you guys bringing back Actung Spitfire?!!!!! -
Hey BTS, what about the price of CM?
History Buff replied to BeauCoupDinkyDau's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Unfortunately capitalism comes a priority over humanity in todays society. It's true, if one person gets a discount, then the whole coop is a mess. You guys are complaining over $50 US dollars. I paid over $110 Australian for my copy of CM, due to damn dollar exchjange rates. U.S. get the value of your dollar down to encourage exports!!!!! -
Does anyone know if their are any hiding Combat Mission Literature sites around. Where gamers send in their short storys. Cause I had this idea that maybe a non-profit site, could be a good area to post short storys which are historically acurate not satirical and which truely encompass the nature of warfare. Of course if BTS had probs with it, well thas the end, but an area to post short storys of accounts of your battles from the view of the company commander or something along those lines seems interesting and we all have creative flare somewhere in their. I would create the site, but I wouldn't have a clue!!!! Just a suggestion for all web masters out there. What does everyone else think.

CMBB would not be released till?
History Buff replied to Boris Balaban's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Or how about VE day, I like that date even more. A Whole month and a bit before 22nd of june. ah I want a good finished game like the rest. Not game when the first patch/update comes out an hour after it first ships. (PS. I've seen that happen, won't say which title)
