1. I am trying to make a good exit scenario, with British Airborne trying to hook back up with the main lines. I tested it and ran the company of infantary off the table, I put limited Germans on so there was no clashes. All pretty much got off, except for some slow moving Vickers MG. However my victory only went up by 4%. I called a ceasefire which was accepted and the Germans had a stunning victory. Please help, how do you make the exit a bit more dynamic in the points category.
2. Me, 17, ten months, damn I'm not the youngest, but second will do! Reside in Perth, Western Australia and studying Legal Studies at Murdoch University. Had a passion for history (Particully Warfare) ever since a young age, about 8 or 9. Hehehe, Oldies!!!! (No insults intended).
3. My little question that is nagging me and I can't find the answer. When was Arnhem eventually liberated? I mean the 1st British airborne were pulled out after the partial failure of Market Garden and the new front was just to the south where the 82nd line stopped. Does anyone know when and who defeated who to take Arnhem eventually? Thanx in advance
4. In my opinion I think that the Hq units should be protected at all costs. A severe punishment should be incurred is the Batalion HQ is killed. IE a long time delay is put on all of his companys, which now are leaderless because they don't have any orders coming to them anymore. As a result it takes time to get people moving when they finnally figure out what to do. This can also be moddeled for Platoona and Company commanders. "Wha... Wheres the Major!" "I don't know, I'll take charge." "No I will," "Should we take that hill?" "We should move to the left." "We should move to the right." Arguements to persist when there is no longer 1 sole leader of a force.
5. Last night I was playing one of the Rhine Land Pack maps, the one where the Germans assault a small village, in the middle of the night. Being a night fight I took it caustiously, and used the sneak command a lot. Now my troops got to the outskirts of the city and I was ambushed by a platoon of US Rifle 45 pattern. I assumed because I used the sneak command my men would take cover and return fire, but instead all of em, on numerous occaisions decided in the middle of the night to run towards US Rifle squads, each getting mowed down convenietly. Now I thought the sneak command was meant to creep up on something and return fire if attacked, not do a 'Pickett's' charge and night.
6. Has anyone thought of this? I was playing a very old wargam First Battle, (yeah those old Hex systems), which covers wars during the Cold War (1945-1989 or whenever you consider it ends). It got me thinking, could the CM engine be moddeled to do the middle east, vietnam, korean conflicts? I know the theartres after CM:BB is North Africa/Italy, and then German expansion in 1939-1940). I remember hearing that the Pacific war was not a priority and that WW1 would be lame for obvious reasons. So why not the Cold War after WW2. Combat Mission X : Cold War Sorry if it is a bit off topic but it was just nagging me.
7. I was reading a text called 'Wermahct' from my local library follwoing the structure adn weapon systems of the German army. In the Russian Front section it had a picture and caption pointing out the use of Germans using experimental remote controlled bombs which were alot of TNT on small tank tracks which were guided by soldiers to mess up tank convoys etc. Though they were not widely used that I found very interesting and wondered if it would be included in CM BB? Probably not I know.
8. I just uploaded the links to my two latest scenarios and I've advertised them on the Depot, but I belive for the Scenario Take the Field, I've inputed the wrong URL link to the file. Is their anyway i can get in and change it? Keth, anyone help me!!!!
9. I have two scenarios I've worked on for some time that I think are ready for a bit of a public beating. 1: Late War - Solume - A Zealous Waffen SS force led by a fanatic leader takes the village of Solume in a desperate hope to disrupt the overstretched supply lines caused by Patton's charge of April-May 1945. A common occurence in late war Germany as Pattons charge into the heart of the fatherland meant strong pockets of resistance were formed by battalions etc which were tapped behind the front lines. 2: Take the Field - Useally an objective is a Building or hill. What happens if it is an open field? Set in the early days of Market Garden when the Germans overan all the British Airborne's supply drop zones starving them into submission. Both Scenarios are of aprox equal point value (maybe a hundred give or take), and are semi-historical. (None are focused on one precise encouther but of a common occurence during the two times). Please if you are interested in testing and giving feed back please email me : desglass@vianet.net.au and I'll email them to you soon. Any quries please could they be passed to me via my email address as stated above. Have a merry X-mas one and all.
10. In all these statements of vehicles blowing themselves up, what experience level were they, I can understand conscripts or ven regulars doing a stupid thing like this but veterans and elites, nah.
11. The two reasonswhy I like German Infantary over any other nationality is for two reasons, - Panzerfausts - A lot of SMG's. These are the best troops for ambushes, and have always been highly reliable cause you mostly have always some for of anti-tank hitting power.
12. Ok, our favourite Militia of oldies, hitler youth is under scrutiny, (or a possible inaccuracy). I was testing one of my first scenarios where an SS battalion is hastely formed in the dies days of WW2 in Europe by a loyal commander. Half way through a force of Volkstrum come in as reinforcements and quickly mingle with the SS, who are designed to be overwhelmed by yankees. It is here I noticed that a squad off SS had a command line connecting it to one of the Volkstrum platoon H.Q's. Now is this a historic inaccuracy? Would the "elite SS" ever come under the command of a retirery with stomach problems? (No offense to anyone who falls into this catogary honestly)
13.
quote:
Originally posted by Manx: I know plenty of forums catering for wargames and such, but i don't recall anything that matches the traffic that we have here. I mean, we have more posts in a single thread than most boards do total. Can anyone prove me wrong? If so, point me to it. I'd like to see it. [ 12-13-2001: Message edited by: Manx ]

I play Warhammer 40 000 by games workshop, though not realistic wargaming, their wargaming products are fantasy oriented. There msg boards have grown so large that they have to wipe them once every few months for technical reasons http://www.games-workshop.com/community/messages.htm But for historical wargaming, CM all the way.
14. We have to remember that in a recent CM2 FAQ released they said not double turrented vehicles were going to be included. If I remember correctly.

17. Just tried to send email my ISP's mail server is having probs But I will have those photos if still on offer. email them to desglass@vianet.net.au and I'm sure they'll store em till the servers fixed.
18. Has anyone thought that maybe the few men that ran towards the enemy were fanatic? Just a thought.
19. Does anyone know a website where they have a historically accurate map of front lines of the western front, from month to month maybe? Also a list or map, showing where major divisions, allies and axis were stationed? any given time. I have a basic understanding, but especially after the bulge and the push into germany itself, my knowledge gets a bit "iffy" Any help would be appreciated.
20. During the game look at the victory percentage constantly. If your % is over 10% above the enemy your currently above a draw. But remember that the enemy % is only what you can actually see of the enemy. So if there is a flag in the distance and you don't know if the enemy holds it but they do, it would not show up on their victory %, and therefore narrow the scores down. The % victory is only truely accurate in the later stages of a battle when you have scouted out the majority of the map.
21. Scenario: I started up a game of Airborne vs German Army (heer), La Fierer one, something like that. Anyway, I ordered my men to run across the road at that a set of buildings surrounding the east side of the bridge. Unfortunately there happened to be a Veteran/Crack platoon of rifle squads guarding it, and they opned fire, obviously. I expected my men to return fire but NO!!!!! Lets go for a lovely walk in the park was the idea on their minds. I mean one squad went within ten metres of the enemy and just walked past him at move pace to get to the area i designated him to move to. I may be asking for a bit to much, but if a platoon comes under fire you'd expect your troops to imedeatly seek cover or at the least return fire. Not just slow down to a walk pace and walk into submachine gun fire. Comments?
22. Historically the Schreks were more advanced that the American bazooka. Germany was a motorised army (Compared the many others) and as a result all infantary and vehicles were directed around taking out enemy armour quickly. Armour being the major chance of one of their blitzkrieg attacks failing, therefore weapons like the schreck and panzerfaust were often utilised so infantary could destroy a few tanks here and there to give their own armour an advantage. Hope this helps. I actually have had the most sucess with Schrecks, then PIATS and not much sucess with Zooks.
23. Don't quote me on this...... Okay now thats settled. When the yanks came p with the infantary AT weapon in the mid war years (42-43), I believe that the sheer power of this hand held weapon was striking to the audiance and a strong catchy name was to be given to this "New weapon that shall win us the war" Bazooka, is a strong sounding word and therefore it was chosen when it was suggested. Thats off the top of my head bu I've not done much research on it so don't quote me.
