  1. the ai is not so bad at attacking provided a couple of things: a) the scenario well thought-out (so the ai-controlled units move reasonably well) the scenario is small giving the ai large numbers of units - particularly vehicles - makes it more difficult to design playable scenarios... as for attacking against the ai... designing those types of scenarios is somewhat easier... so even if you never have a human opponent... this game is well worth the $45 u.s.....
  2. so if demo charges in cmbo were too weak are they too strong in cmbb?... or is there just some weird fing going on with buildings?...
  3. in sqad leader the field phones were better than the radios... maybe that's all they need to fix for cmbb...
  4. i noticed this when playing the demo... missed it a bit... ... in the scenario editor it would be nice if the flag point values were programmable... i mean a single flag size with the point value for each one set by the scenario designer.... ...would like to see more keystroke shortcuts in the scenario editor/unit purchase screen... ... a way to set all terrain or height level for every tile in a given area, including for the entire mapboard... ...a way to set all of the ammo and such for all of the units of the same type in the editor... but these are nits... i just ordered the game... am getting ready to ROCK (wuhu)
  5. that's exactly right... and with the new 'load custom map into a quick-battle' feature i would think it would be the only way to go... play that baby both ways
  6. in any event, as steve said, there is no way to make the basic price of a weapon system 'fair' in all situations... i would imagine that in order to do that the pricing would have to take into account the actual map and overall situation (attack-defense, forces sizes, force compositions, weather, ground conditions, lighting, etc.) for a given battle... you should probably just make agreements with your opponents not to use stug fs... or try a different time frame... or b*tch slap the buggers with 300mm katyushas...
  7. in other words will the stug f be to cmbb as the m8 hmc (allied) or jgdpzIV/smg (axis) squads were to cmbo?...
  8. my understanding is that the russians enjoyed employing artillery in a direct fire role. with that in mind, how about 4 or 5 122mm or 152mm pieces?
  9. looking at 014-situation, i would say to watch your flanks for a vehicle sweep by the russians, or be sure to disperse enough so he can't 'artillery' ya... i mean, that's what i would be thinking... like, 'where is his mass?'...
  10. but doom 2 gave us cyberdemons and mini-spiders so it might be more like cmbb compared to cmbo...
  11. i think that cmbb is going to be the best computer game by anyone to date... bar none... having said that i wonder if cmbb will automatically sell to everyone who bought cmbo... and then some... my only observation about the demo is that neither scenario includes afvs and infantry-and-support-weapon-type units for both sides, as does the cmbo demo... in any event i really enjoyed working with 10 pziiis and 5 pzivs at once in citadel... 15 tanks in a scenario is rare by cmbo standards... so it was a bit, 'over the top' to see such a thing in the demo... again, cmbb is going to be the most incredible computer game ever... i mean what... 300 vehicles to choose from or somefink!... '41 to '45! ...wow... german recon in '41... heavy fighting against 'massed' t34s in the south... steppe and city fighting in '42... kursk-type mind-blowing battalion level battles... su and isu-152s and crack smg squads... su-76 battalions... is2... t34-85... wow!... wow!... wow! if cmbo had a plethora of scenario designing opportunities... cmbo is going to put a scenario designer into hog heaven!....
  12. the drawback to this demo - compared with the cmbo demo - is that neither scenario has combined arms for both sides. in the cmbo demo both scenarios had combined arms for both sides... the actual cmbb game is going to be a blast though!
  13. it appears someone stole the pictures from the page
  14. i haven't played cmbo in a long time... the truth is i was playing 'too much' so i destroyed both of my cds... i plan though on buying cmbb and if memory serves the following improvements have been made: 1) you can click on a unit's line of movement and the unit is selected. this is intuitive and was missed in cmbo... 2) i like the move to contact order 3) when the mouse pointer is moved off of the edge of the screen, if you move it high the thing spins and if you move it low the thing slides... before it was all spin... this new way is an improvement... i very much look forward to playing cmbb so much that i throw away my cd(s)... i mean this is where the rubber hits the road... so many vehicles, so little time...
  15. Could you be thinking of "The Citadel"? That one is set in Brest Litovsk and is very close to what you are describing.</font>
  16. after playing the two scenarios as germans on standard settings, the first word which came to mind - particularly after yelnia stare - was 'sobering.' spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . .. so i fire up yelnia stare and move the units around a bit, one platoon per wood patch, left, right, center. one 37at is right on the n edge of the left wood patch... turn 1 and the 37 opens up at faraway t34s and gets smoked... arghhh and still turn 1 and the fos let off their rounds harmlessly in the middle of the map... was that some sort of registered fire or somefink?... it apparently had just a 1-second delay... needless to say the 3 platoons end up getting thrashed, especially the right and center ones in that order. no t34s smoked, both 37ats out... major defeat... then i fire up citadel schwerpunkt.... ok... this is more my style... 15 tanks... so i take the two wing platoons and 'stack' them behind the pzivs... then move out on fast.... after a minute or 2 on pziv is ambushed by some infantry dug in in the center of the board... arghhh after heavier contact, both with one of the kvs and with several guns, the two pziii platoons break right and left respectively as the pzivs keep pushing the center... i'm thinking, 'you know the pzivs should be following, not leading here... the iiis should be taking the fire.' but i digress. by the end of the game the board is pretty much swept of russians; certainly all their guns and 2 kvs are knocked out. i'm impressed by the ability of the pziii and pziv to hold up to heavy 45mm fire - i mean assuming that's what that was... i love the pziii... i mean not such a big gun but certainly a gun which fires quickly, and 50mm is better than 37... that for me is the highlight of the demo... seeing the pziii... somehow the t34/40 and kvis don't quite do it for me... perhaps it was just the context... anyway i get a tactical victory... then i go back to yelnia stare... concentrate 2 platoons on left and one in the center, then set up the mg34s and 37ats more 'intelligently,' on the 'inside' of the left wood patch, awaiting crossways fire for any t34s which move up too quickly. here i meet much greater success. the center platoon is chewed but the 2 platoons on the left keep the russian infantry charge at bay while the 37ats get 3 t34s... that 'death clock' thing was in full effect... turret penetration after turret penetration... i came away impressed by the 37at at close range against the t34/40... i don't imagine they would have as great of success against the 41?... is that right?... certainly not against kvs... i can't wait for the full game and the myriad of available vehicles... what about that maxim gun?... is it 12.7mm or somefink?...
  17. for what it is worth, i have heard that the russians were fond of using artillery in a direct fire role. i would assume this would include even short-barrelled 122mm and 152mm pieces... certainly the 'crash-boom' (76mm short or medium or both?) was 'ubiquitous'...

  19. one time a buddy of mine was on my side as germans.. he had a tiger i with radio installed so he could call in ffe... i had an elephant on the other side of the map. 2 other dudes were british and american... the dude on our left lost about 5 churchills to the tiger before he realized they were only available in '44... my buddy said, 'oh that's ok... you can have all of those (now dead) churchills. in the center and our right it didn't go much better for the allies... a dead halftrack column killed by my buddie's ffe and a dead 10-3 in the woods killed by a snake eyes from my elephant... then there was the time i lost all of my main force to a british 10-3 with hmgs in a building... finally a pziii with 50med came along from the side and critical hit the 10-3... memories...
  20. i would like to see the one in riga, 1941 where the german platoon is trapped in the tower, surrounde by russians and the other german units try to break in supported by a couple or three stug iiib. also there are t-34 turrets dug into the ground if memory serves...
  21. mark ii probably saw line combat early on. i look forward to mark ii, either as part of recon or as part of regular panzer battalion, taking on bt series....
