Thought many of you might appreciate seeing this. The "AMU" referenced is Army Marksmanship Unit.

Doesn't the "OCCUPY/HOLD" victory condition do that - accompanied with 'PRESERVE STRUCTURE" penalty/points?  Can a defender get points for preserving structure, or that only penalizes the attacker if he destroys it?

After I mentioned Pavloc's house over on the CoC board on FB, one of the guys essentially said the story of Pavlov's house was propaganda. When I asked for evidence, he sent me this link to a massive discourse on the whole situation, complete with photos and Russian CC film clips. The amount of information here is overwhelming, but I thought it would delight the troops. The carnage is sobering (a battalion down to 18 effectives), showing how truly close the Germans came to taking Stalingrad, and there's grog chrome galore, too. Nets on upper story windows on German buildings to keep out incendiary bottles, for example. And did you know Serjeant Pavlov took the house with only three other frontoviki? They were its sole garrison for a time, and the buld-up began from there. All in all, this Reddit is a marvelous resource for what I'm sure is a CM game people dream of (or wake up sweating at the thought of it). There is a great deal more at the link, including a lot of amplifying remarks, corrections to the article's translator, comments about being respectful to the fighters and more. All in all, quite the education!

    Fair use

    Aragorn2002,
First they closed the various archives to foreigners, then came the "verbotten to report on things (failed ops) that made the Red Army look bad." Good thing Glantz et al. got copies of the relevant material first. Besides, one such visit just before the State Archives were denied netted unmistakeable DNA proof that the supposed Hitler skull fragment held there was from a woman! The documents over at Tank Archives are high level internal documents, documents which usually had a very small circulation because of classification. The exception, which really stood out for me, was the order to make the findings regarding Ferdinand weak points available clear down to TCs and gun commanders. That was novel. Obviously, the loss ratio manipulation (which I wasn't aware of, so thanks!) is blatant distortion of thoroughly unpleasant historical reality. And I guarantee you the Kremlin is none too happy about Germany's current military capabilities, not to mention the clout it wields in NATO and the EU. Russia's already had two unforgettable encounters with the continental power that is Germany and is accordingly chary.

Found this on Tank Archives while trying to chase down something else. This is chiefly about MOUT and is essential reading if you would understand how the Soviets dismantled German defenses via CA tactics and organization. They were meticulous.

Can't believe it's already been an hour, but the French battle group in Estonia video was amazing. On the strength of what I saw there alone, I'd happily support your campaign to get the French into CMBS. They look serious and squared away. The colors are somber, so I absolutely didn't understand the jarring bright blue wash stations or whatever they were. Those things would be a nightmare to camouflage. It found it remarkable how low the vertical profile was for the Le Clerc in the field. Has always looked like a beast to me when imaged at defense shows and such. Shall have to watch the other videos but in the sidebar to this one was a video series called "Armies de Mer__" not reproed completely here in case the full word would get me into trouble with Steve! If it means what I think it means, as in the famous Cambron instance, then it would definitely be a bad idea to press my luck. That said, I don't know French, so there may be other meanings attached as well. My Squat +1 knowledge level of what's happening in Mali was considerably improved by the second video. I knew MARSOC was doing CT training there vs AQ, but I was unaware there was a hot war going on. Love those big AMX armoured cars, if that's the right term. Always thought they were cool.

No idea why I got a quote of my previous one. Couldn't get rid of it, so we're stuck with it.

Erwin reacted to John Kettler in Infantry locating distant AT-guns despite heavy fog
There was a case from the Battle of the Bulge in which a scared young soldier, who wasn't FA at all, found himslf directing fire onto a German troop concentration (a regiment, I think) while fogged in. He did it by direction of the sound, then listening for screams and shrieks as round after round was fired in adjustment both to deflection and range. When he heard the screams and shrieks, he reported back and the FA went to FFE. I've read similar accounts from the Eastern Front using the sIG 33 15 cm howitzer. Would note, though, that it's a lot easier to hit a big body of men than a relatively tiny ATG position. Unless the ATGs keep firing, there shouldn't be further refinement on their true locations. Now if the artillery survey boys have their mic lines out, that would be different. I've read of a battle in which the Germans pounded away, we pounded back, then went doggo while we systematically sound located all the German guns, When we came roaring back into the fight, we hit 'em with everything including Corps artillery, smashing the German batteries clean out of the fight.

Not sure if you realize that there is already a massive mod that changes CMSF into looking like Europe - landscape, buildings, vehicle and inf camo.
Am thinking that if we are lucky, your CMBS (European-type) mods may work with a Euro-modded CMSF and CMSF2.

Probably best strategy is to threaten Chinese interests and let them take care of NK.  eg: Trade War and withdrawal of US biz interests in China.  The additional benefit is dealing with Chinese expansionism into S. China Sea (and other places like Africa, S. America and current incursions vs Bhutan and India etc) at same time.

Depends on whether the next module for CMBS features winter months.  But, I imagine that if the mod is available people will like it.
Just don't spread yourself too thin, Olek.  Over the years we've seen many modders go nuts and do a huge amount of work, then suddenly they burn out and disappear.

No, I mean the European complete overhaul mod for CMSF - to make CMSF look like Europe (not the desert).
