  1. My sense was that the final La Haye scenario from COURAGE & FORTITUDE was one if the best in CMBN since it provided a Battalion of inf plus support like HMG's Engineers etc, as well as a company equivalent of armor on a decent-sized map. There were many tactical and strategic decisions - like establishing resupply systems and keeping a reserve etc. Its very complexity was wearing at times. One needed to use all the skills that one had hopefully learned to date. I loved it, and it was like graduating.
  2. Never figured how to post pics, but my Desktop settings are: Brightness 30% Contrast 50% Gamma 1.15 Dig Vibrance 50% Hue 0% I do have most 3D settings on max, except for these Texture Filtering items all OFF: Anisotropic; Trilinear Opt.; Filter Opt. I find with these settings and Aris' terrrain and vehicular mods my CMBN looks terrific now.
  3. I know that if you split a squad during the game, each team takes a permanent morale hit. However... 1) If you split a squad in the EDITOR (so the squad appears on the map in the set-up turn already split into teams) is there a morale hit to the teams? 2) If you split a squad into teams DURING the SET-UP turn, do the teams take a morale hit?
  4. Clearly my question was confusing. So, let me try and clarify: I know that if you split a squad during the game, each team takes a permanent morale hit. However... 1) If you split a squad in the EDITOR (so the squad appears on the map in the set-up turn already split into teams) is there a morale hit to the teams? 2) If you split a squad into teams DURING the SET-UP turn, do the teams take a morale hit? Hope that is clearer...
  5. I know that when one splits a squad into teams during a game there is a morale hit in CM1. What if the squad is split in the editor and placed on the map? What if you split the squad during the set-up turn?
  6. IIRC, PzI's + PzII's were the most common tanks the Germans had when they invaded Poland.
  7. With the 3 man FO's, one is designated "Observer". Lose him and the FO team is "Denied" further arty. Realistic? I have no idea.
  8. Makes more money for the defense contractors to create something very sexy that can do a lot of things, but is so complex that it requires a small army of highly paid contractors to service with very expensive parts (all made by the contractor) - thus ensuring massive cash flow for the duration of the toy's life.
  9. John is correct. You can only get inf over the dry river bed to the US right flank. The tanks can get to the river and that's all for their support. They can be useful, but watch for German AT assets.
  10. How do get them on the Kindle? (They don't sell em that way, do that?)
  11. Sounds great PT. Yes, take the time to get the battles right with surprises etc... or what's the point... But, don't worry about which maps... Most of us couldn't tell if it's a Syrian map or Outer Wharisitstan.
  12. I really appreciate that the latest terrain mods have mud around real gaps to help more easily distinguish them from "fake" gaps.
  13. It's a good question re whether it's worth replacing a -2 platoon HQ with a better Co HQ like one would in CM1. Can one create "super platoons" like this? Also note that in Campaigns, if you have a Platoon HQ KIA, its Company HQ will not give C2 (ever), nor will the Platoon HQ be replaced (ever). You will have leaderless platoons for the rest of the campaign. Hopefully, this will be fixed in Commonwealth. The good news is that C2 is so much more subtle in CM2, that one can function with leaderless squads a LOT easier than one could in CM1.
  14. This is one man? If it's a team and some are getting killed, the ammo count would go down.
  15. I have a much more toned down graphics set-up, less toy-train like. To me, the above photos make the foliage and vehicles look almost fluorescent. So, I prefer the faded, grungy look. (If I ever figure out how to post one of my own screenshots...)
  16. Down to the last 15 minutes of this mission (#4) and loving it. Am getting good at predicting your tank ambushes and sending FO's to use the heavy arty you thoughtfully provide to kill enemy TD's (5 KIA now). However the ATG's were harder to spot, and have lost one PzV (and 2 halftracks) now with two other PzV's losing their main gun and a couple others with minor damage - but have killed two ATG's - mainly by flanking inf one near the crossroads and one in the enemy right rear. As usual my inf takes the most casualties (about 25 so far) - esp in the final minutes as I start to rush and get careless. CF shows a Draw. But, I am poised to occupy several victory locations and the US are starting to surrender. So, I expect some sort of a win shortly. I just hope my inf losses don't cause problems in the next battle(s). The main nasty surprises in this scenario were the US heavy arty, followed by the number of TD's and ATG's - which meant that the inf had to do most of the work while the Tanks wait for it to be safe to advance along the road. Tanks really have a hard time doing much useful stuff in CMBN - at least the way I play. Had a lot of engineers in this mission, but due to the enemy AT assets, I didn't feel it was safe to send my tanks across country either. Would prefer to have an extra platoon instead of two PzV's any day.
  17. The current CM2 engine is possibly useful for training but only in very defined educational situations. I am thinking that if the trend towards simulation rather than "game" continues in CMSF2, BF could very well be a step closer to DoD contracts. And they are lucrative. The main challenge with govt contracts is getting someone with clout at DoD and/or money who is willing to champion your project.
  18. Re A10 - so one doesn't need the manual they sell separately?
  19. The main advantage of CM1 is that one can easily play on comparatively (to CM2) huge maps with Regiments of units in maneuver combat in which armor is emphasized and inf is a supporting arm. (So, almost the complete opposite of CMBN.)
  20. re AA and Aniso, is it automatically better re graphics to increase these to the max?
  21. Looking forward to trying em out. Where does one get Audacity or similar if one wants to adjust volume?
  22. DCS A-10 for $40! I wish I had known. (I recall it was several hundred dollars - or is that a different version?)
