  1. With an operational/strategic aspect, (deciding where to put political and/or economic assets in addition to military) a Vietnam game would be more appealing.
  2. BF/Steve has said that it would be a simple upgrade of the existing CMSF content with no added stuff. And that's fine with me, I would buy it immediately. Modders have done a good job approximating Afghan situations.
  3. While Vietnam sounds interesting, one of the issues is that the Vietcong/Minh and VPA generally avoided the sort of confrontation that makes a tactical game like CM fun. The only way the US defeated those forces was when the they surrounded and trapped and then it was a turkey shoot with arty and CAS. Maybe Hue would be interesting, but what else?

  5. Re POW's taking up arms again, I had friendly troops in the same foxholes(!) as enemy who had surrendered for a couple of turns, when for some reason the enemy suddenly picked up their weapons. They were immediately gunned down by the friendlies next to them. It was "interesting".

  8. Well there are polite ways to do that and rude ways. I think the issue is that some people here are just rude and bullying. (A lot fewer these days am happy to note.)
  9. The one I noticed changed the most was the BAR. The older mod has it make a deep throated bang, the new one is more of a lighter "tat'. I have been comparing all your sound mods from 3 versions and basically selecting the versions I like most. However, I was curious if you radically changed a few cos the older ones were not accurate/less realistic. (They are all good of course.)

  11. Comparing your sound mods, some weapons sound distinctly different from previous versions. Were the older ones wrong? S Some of the older mod weapon sounds of yours sound a lot "more impressive", but should one not be using them?
  12. In CM at least it seemed like Pioneers had weak firepower and were mostly useful with their charges. I understand why one would use em as a reserve in the game. But, aren't they supposed to go first in RL(as in "Pioneers")?

  14. Wow, that's a pretty good war action film. Pretty good training for CM East Front.
  15. In over a decade of CM1 games, I only once saw a plane shot down by AAA. It's been a few years, but I recall the sound of a plane barreling into the ground and I think I heard a crash and saw smoke - but IIRC that was offmap - like arty hitting offmap. It was a lovely detailed touch.
  16. Starting mission 8 and really enjoying this campaign. Normally, I despise small scenarios, but the 25-45 minute ones in this campaign have been a lot of fun. Not sure why. Maybe, cos I am getting Total or Major Victories in almost every one. The maps are terrific and the mixture of challenges so far have been very entertaining.

  18. That makes sense, but highlights another LOS irritation. Just like with MG's which can't see and shoot at the target even when the 3rd ammo bearer can, you'd think that it would be automatic to move the support weapon a few inches so it can fire. If you don't want the crew weapon to move, then don't order it to fire. But, if you do order it to fire, it should be able to move a few inches so it can fire. This is probably my last remaining major gripe with the "realistic game" part of the system. I put the need for selectable waypoints and lines so the gameplay is speeded up - really needed with larger scenarios - under "much needed UI improvements".
  19. It's always been that way, mjk. IIRC 5 may be the smallest squad one can split.
  20. I checked every turn and the one that wasn't firing maintained xnt LOS. I even moved it to what I thought was a better position with xnt LOS, but it still would not fire, while the one next to it was firing away happily.
  21. So, for the "realistic" look, we should primarily use the "Original" files(?). Thanks...
  22. Lovely. I really like the faded/weathered camo. The colors make it blend in rather than stand out like some with their "brighter" paint jobs. Thank you.
