  1. Marlow, This Romulus character is a troll. Spin and no facts. Typical. Richard
  2. Yes, and save hundreds of thousands of additional deaths and prevent the communist Russians from occupying part of Japan. If you think differently, you don't know your history. Richard
  3. Guys, Are there any computer games other than CM? With CM, for me, there is not much other than CM. However for diversion, I'm playing a bit of BF42, especially the Desert Combat mod. Cheers, Richard
  4. Guys, Each and every June 6th, I take a few moments and remember the soldiers on all sides who fought on D-Day and on all of the other days of WWII. Very few people have any idea of the sacrifice of all soldiers. I do do have an idea, and I appreciate the sacrifice of all of those souls no matter on which side they fought. How sad it is that such carnage was and still is being visited upon any human or non human. When will people learn. However, as long as some people want to attack and take from peaceful people, the peaceful must defend themselves. Cheers, Richard
  5. Snuffy, I don't know Hans or his Syrian born tanker acquaintence. Additionally, I have never been in combat, and I feel fortunate to have avoided such a horror. Indeed, I have read & studied much about war, but certainly not all war. Your questioning of Hans' story and your suspicions may be correct. However, the story certainly can substantially be truthful and correct. (1) In WWII, it was certainly possible for a person to be under direct enemy fire and 'never' see an enemy soldier or vehicle. If one is ducking enemy fire and is crawling like a worm to get back to safety, one may not see much of anything except the next clump of dirt in front of one's tongue. (2) Hans did quote 'brew up' from the Syrian. However, (and Hans may correct me) I suspect that 'brew up' may have been Hans' interpretation of the Syrian's words. (3) The other personal type quips and other minutea just have a correct type of ring. (4) If someone wanted to generate a more heroic ficticious type of story, certainly the Syrain could have been made a bit more 'at the front' and could have at least seen some Germans. In short, Hans's story seems substantiall truthful. Maybe, I am wrong, but maybe I am not. Cheers, Richard
  6. Hans, What a story. Most interesting and instructive. It certainly takes away some of the glamour that some may feel toward war. Ken, You are most correct about the whiners. Far, far too many people have no idea or appreciation of how good we have it and the incredibly large cost that it took for us (in USA & Europe) to have what we have. 7. Guys, Great horror stories>   Lol. Cheers, Richard
  8. Matt, Steve, & Rest Of BFC, It might be suggested that you all contact Jason & Stalin and utilize them for increasing the historical accuracy of the CMBB rarity factors. Those guys have way, way too much time on their hands. Also, we informed but unwashed masses and BB would benefit from their expertise, idle time, and active, informed, and fertile minds. 9. Meat, I have a somewhat similar system to yours, at least as far as the video card: Athlon 2100, 1 gig RAM, Ti4200/128 meg RAM. I am by no means a techie. However, you may want to make sure that anti aliasing is turned off. If it is on, your frame rate will drop to a crawl. I had turned on AA, and it made my system crawl. Cheers, Richard
  10. Dodge, The very short answer is: if the troops are in woods or open & if the arty is medium (105s, 120s, etc) or larger (4.5s, 150s, 155s, etc), withdraw diagonally to the rear immediately and without delay. Cheers, Richard
  11. Duck, We don't need no steenking grass. Thees ees the desert. Cheers, Richard
  12. Volker, That pictures are just a last versions of the PzI and 38t. Cheers, Richard
  13. Guys, Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Looking forward to CM3. Cheers, Richard
  14. Guys, The short and exemplary explanation about FT teams on offense is that generally, FT teams are only useful against enemies who are about to die anyway. The short is that FT teams are not worth their cost on offense or defense. On defense on the first turns of a scenario or game, FT teams are useful in torching covering terrain (buildings and trees, especially heavy buildings) that may be useful cover to the attacking enemy. I guess that this is might be called area denial. Also, on defense, as part of a tight line of infantry on close range (20 -25 meters) ambush in buildings and especially heavy trees (woods & tall pines), FT can be useful in executing an effective ambush. In fact, once as part of an ambush on a road, I had a Polish FT team placed in a building take out a passing PzII. It was supposed to be a 1939 scenario. It was pretty cool and interesting to watch. However, that ambush was an act of desparation on my part, and similar ambushes usually do not work. Cheers, Richardv
  15. Joe, I think that POS has gotten you too worked up. Go get a good Guinness in order to calm down. Where do they find these people? It must be a testosterone problem or something.  Cheers, Richard
  16. Sublime, Jason, & Guys, Jason, you have correctly targeted in on human nature in BB human choose troops games. Knowledgable players will generally pick AFVs that are relatively invulnerable from the front and that have killer guns as soon as such sweeties are available. Sublime, one way around this situation is to let the computer choose the troops in such games. Generally, the computer has a devilishly perverse tendency to provide each player with mostly the most available and generally not the uber AFVs of the time. Each player would gnerally consider such troops of his to be crappe. However, one's opponent will also be provided with what the opponent considers to be crappe. Generally, it all balances out, and it forces each player to do the best with what he's got. :eek Cheers, Richard
  17. Bertram, From my CM observations, the internal, individual unit AI will use tungsten when that unit would feel that the use of tungsten would be likely to hit and would be effective. Generally, tung is used after a few AP rounds have been fired and possibly a hit would have struck the target. The player has no control as to the use of tungsten. Cheers, Richard
  18. Mike & Mike, You guys have waaaaaaaay too much time on your hands ... or is that waaaaaaaay too much bier on your minds. Cheers, Richard
  19. -E, Nicely done. Lol. Cheers, Richard
  20. Bruceov, The draw was no bug and was quite legitmate. Sounds like your opponent and you both got a "Phyrric Draw". Cheers, Richard
  21. Eric, Interest abounds, especially by me, regarding the results of your proposal. Let us know how the maneuver goes. Cheers, Richard [ March 14, 2003, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  22. Guys, Once the troops are chosen and no other rule restrictions are agreed to, nothing is gamey, and everything is acceptable. Indeed, it is quite surprising that CM, both BO & BB, contain so few true perversions. Cheers, Richard
  23. Guys, For me, 2000 points (for each side) is best. With 2000 points, one rather large mistake will not doom that side. However, anything over 2000 points is just too much of a pain to handle. Cheers, Richard [ March 11, 2003, 08:56 AM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  24. Jelly, I do apologize for impugning your integrity. I did not intend to do so. However, I stated "against a semi competent, non sleeping, non drugged human". I strongly suspect that your human opponent was "not semi competent, was not non sleeping, and/or was not non drugged". However, I might be wrong, but then, I might not be wrong. If you wish, our guys could meet on the field of honor on a random BO or BB ME map of 2000 points, human or computer choose troops, random date, pbem. (richardcuccia@hotmail.com) Both you and I must suspect that such wonderful result will probably not be replicated by you or I. However, I might be wrong.
