(The new style of game content that BFC has available includes every single module and patch in the download. Your license unlocks that portion of the code which your purchase grants you access to. The initial download is large, but subsequent ones are non-existent. If a new player buys CMBN v3, he has to download the big (9Gb?) file. Then, if he decides to buy CMMG, all he has to do is apply the new key. The initial download already had the content. This allows a non-MG player to play online with an MG player. They have identical installs. One player merely has access to more of the code.) This is a transition period from the old style download system to the new. You are bridging the two periods with your old purchase and your new purchase. The new module purchase will get you modernized.

What do you guy's do after you lose a scenario?
c3k replied to Spitzenhund's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I laugh at the futility of my pixeltruppens' sad, little, lives. Then I call for more to take the place of the fallen. As the new men eagerly take their places, I swirl my glass and pick where my whimsy will send them next. Ken -
Campaign Engel Bug after 3.0 Install
c3k replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Wow. This isn't good, is it? If you've got this issue (Engel bug with either gun or tanks not carrying over), AND you have savegames showing the before and after, please PM me. We'll set up comms and, after I get your turns and verify it, send them on to the powers that be. Thanks, Ken -
Yeah, I agree with the map comments. This is a beaut. Time? Yeah, I agree with that, too.

Not much help, but I do know that I've read NOT to use a download manager. I think one of your posts said that you were using one. Otherwise, in your case, can you borrow an uninterruptable power supply from an equipment manager? It's rare, even in remote outposts, not to have permanent-on equipment somewhere. Drop an extension cord to it?

Sometimes enemy casualties disappear - memory issue?
c3k replied to Bulletpoint's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The stories that occur with every firefight are limited only by your imagination... -
As others have stated, once I set my framerates to 1/2 vsync, the replays have been butter smooth. The cpu intensive aspect of the game is the real limiter (IMO). I've got one machine with an i7 @ 4.5GHz, running off a Samsung SSD. The game STILL takes a while to crunch turns. I don't know if multi-core enabling would help these times. I do know that the game includes so many details that I can't imagine how many computations have to happen for each turn...in a 2km x 8 km map with multiple battalions engaged. But it works. Ken

Seeking one pair of pbem players to playtest...
c3k replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Cannon in front of them...and all that. -
Lucky for them it went UP like a vocano. Check their status. Savegame? Run it a dozen times and see what happens. (Not the replay, the blue-bar turn.)

Seeking one pair of pbem players to playtest...
c3k replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
...and now I've lost a Stuart. Sfhand's defense has unhorsed more of my men than I was able to do of his. Sigh. -
I prefer WeGo by a wide margin.

If there is ANY doubt about Don's winning, please post now. Yes, another post WAS closer. However, I'd closed the entry by then, as announced in the thread and in the amended original post. It would be unfair to award that individual a free copy since there may have been many who did NOT submit an entry after having read the closing notice. Ken

We have a winner!!! Drum roll, please.... Based on timeliness and being the closest to the actual date/time of release (1244 of January 30th (30102015)), and bonus points for actually formatting his answer correctly, The Winner Is Don, come on down! Congratulations. A PM is wafting its way... Ken

Arena: it covers sectors. Think of a pie. Mmmmmm.....pie. Where were we? As each sector's charge gets expelled and attempts to intercept an incoming round, it is gone. Other adjacent sectors MAY overlap to a small degree. However, as they get used up, there is a definite gap which occurs in its coverage. In-game this is NOT modeled. Instead, a slightly higher fail rate (miss) is used. Think about it this way. If you're the track commander and your left side just intercepted something you'd slew the turret slightly to get the next charge in line (assuming you didn't just face the threat). This level of micro-management is below the threshold of player interaction. The end result is the same, but there is (apparently) a benefit to not having the game keep track of 21 Arena charges for every vehicle with sectors and intercept chances, etc.

Seeking one pair of pbem players to playtest...
c3k replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
AHHH!!! I've lost an irreplaceable Sherman! Oh, wait: nevermind. I've got dozens more where that came from. Nice job w/ATG placement. -
^^^ The very at-start comms sometimes need a few seconds to link up and get working. (The flip side would be worse. Imagine your at-start forces show in-command/in comms, and then, the second you hit the "Go" button, all your forces were fragmented and out of comms. That would be bad...)

I've now lost an M8 armored car as well. Must destroy!!! -
A word of advice: too much gear WILL slow down your troops and/or tire them out quickly. The Jav launcher INCLUDES a missile. If you have a two man AT team and give them the Jav (w/missile) and 3 other missiles, you may not be able to move them much faster than MOVE. Unfortunately, you cannot "unladen" anyone. Once you've acquired that ammo, you're stuck with it. Your only option would be to burn it off via Target commands. (Savegame is your friend...)

Thanks for the scenario design AAR book with the BS download
c3k replied to Bahger's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
That design document is a fantastic resource. JonS did an outstanding job putting it together and showing us how to use the editor. -
LOL! I noticed those names when testing this one. Yeah, mistakes (or any activity) can get you punished.
-
Looking forward to trying this out! Thanks.

Wow. Soon to be burned onto my C drive. Thank you.

Having a ton of pretty grevious spotting issues lately
c3k replied to SnakeTheFox's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Spotting... A lot of good info already posted. Units do not spot continuously. They only spot at certain intervals. Vehicles have had their spotting abilities reduced. A fast moving vehicle may be able to exploit these game engine characteristics for several dozen meters. Yes, it can seem broken. I ascribe thses situations to oft-described stories of units infiltrating enemy lines at night through guise and guile or just ineptitude. I wonder how many times it would happen if you replayrd it repeatedly. When in the next turn was it spotted? -
I shall peruse the entries. Format and timeliness are factors. By tomorrow evening, it will be announced.
