Lots of smoke, lots of suppression, lots of overwatch. Only move in with a small tentacle.

Unit shared morale propagates too quickly

^^^ Some units can, and do, (in game) become "fanatic" when something like this happens. Other men run or hide. -
Unit shared morale propagates too quickly
c3k replied to Pelican Pal's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
After months or years of training, then weeks of combat, men develop a sixth sense and can feel when one of their own get hurt. Known. -
Or, as soon as you split, give a move order, then right-click to drop the unit. Now that team has an order and the other does not. They will not recombine. Move the waypoint, or delete it, as you desire, at your leisure.

This type of event is what undermined Einstein's specific theory of relativity. You may know it as "spooky physics". Known issue. -

Nuke it from orbit. Oh, wait: it can intercept the falling bomb. Induce a solar implosion, then flee. -
My Bradley has ESP. TOW 2 chases the wrong target.
c3k replied to gunnersman's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I agree with VaB. That looks like a lost missile trying to acquire guidance. Not sure what can spoof a Tow2B... The second missile seemed to be going towards the target, but hit a tree. -
Why are off map reinforcements a thing?

Why are off map reinforcements a thing?

Think of a linear exit "zone", two action spots wide, snaking along the edges, but offset a distance, 500m, with LOS obscurations. That'll keep the player in the middle of the map. Or, make them adjacent to the edge, if that fits the designer's intent. Make sure the player understands the consequences of transgressing, as well as enemy immunity. -

Custer saw Sitting Bull and his warriors as they approached. They did not appear amid the center of his bivouac. -
Why are off map reinforcements a thing?
c3k replied to Spitzenhund's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Right now, my immediate environs allow me to have LOS from 40 to 2,000m. Behind me (the 40m zone), are my buddies and a huge support organization. My rear is secure. If, in the next instant, a dozen tanks and 100 infantry were to appear within hand-grenade range, I would be a'mazed. Magic. It is a game limitation, atm, not a feature. IMHO. Ken -

I agree with the OP. Enemy teleporting inside your defensive line is not right. It punishes "winning" the battle beyond what the designer thought would happen. This has nothing to do with balance (maintaining a combat presence to flanks and rear). It has everything to do with witchcraft. If I laager-up, guns out, with clear fields of fire, how does that enemy mech task force appear inside my perimeter? Magic. That's how. As mentioned, there are tools available. A pre-brief that the right flank is unsecured and EW intercepts have a mobile enemy operating there would be a clue. Then, having a message appear, "imagery shows enemy approaching" a few minutes prior, would simulate pickets giving warning. Finally, map labels, "possible enemy spawn location", would be the last clue. All the above would warn the player NOT to hug the edge. (Or put LARGE exit zones along the edge which remove friendly forces from the battle would have a similar effect.) All the above are to repair the damage to immersion that game edges and teleporting forces cause. It has NOTHING to do with fairness. Ken -
My units are terrified of beeing LASED!
c3k replied to GEN Moore's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
No...they're not afraid of the laser...they're afraid of what will FOLLOW the laser! You need to imbue your men with a more martial spirit. A pre-battle speech is my technique. Barring that...pop smoke and reverse. Remember that location and try to find who/where has LOS to it. Then hammer that spot. Or, more cheaply, try to get eyes on it. Ground troops with binos are an option. UAVs are a BETTER option. A lot of times, no, there's nothing you can do. Precision munitions are bad that way. -
Huh. I've never used it. Time to try it out. Thanks.

LOL. Okay, you may've found a bug. Which squad did you see this in? Ken

Bil, My apologies. I don't remember what gave me such a definite, but wrong, conclusion. Ken -
So much good stuff. On a phone, so brief... MOUT: Suppress! Move the assault element adjacent to building, target (or light) into the building along with 15 to 30 sec pause. Quick into it with a 360 arc. (Otherwise your troops will continue to area fire and be slow to react.) Similar in woods. Massive area targeting (loght) and many pauses. Split everyone. Eyeballs.

Seeking one pair of pbem players to playtest...
c3k replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
True...my dismounted crews, much as I wish they wouldn't, frequently display a penchant for continuing their attack utilizing only sidearms. Many perform a useful service by absorbing enemy munitions. Sigh. I'd prefer they didn't, but it is hard to restrain them. I cannot test Renault behavior, atm. -

c3k replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Only if you want to use the cannon and not your sidearm! And you've just discovered why one-man turrets are no longer used. Two man crew: one man drives, the other man does everything else. This turn, I've destroyed half a dozen evil Nazi trucks! Ah ha! My jeeps have been avenged! I've finally located one of his ATG's (suspicious about another location), his ambushing 'schreck will be confirmed to be dead, a PzIII died in the woods, and my attack otherwise continues... No more turns from me until Sunday night... -

Marf1985, Thanks for the savegame. It seems only ONE of the PzII's appear and no other tanks. (No ATG issue that I could see...) Ken -

I can state, unequivocally, there is NOT an Allied bias for spotting in woods. Ouch. I shall walk to river bank by stepping across the shattered hulls of my forces. -
That was well done! Thanks for the laugh. Now, because of your post, I will send a battalion across an enemy controlled bridge.
