Time for a Tips And Tactics Forum?

Agreed. Blackcat, you seem rather high strung. A couple of pints would do you good, IMO. :-) -
Time for a Tips And Tactics Forum?
Doug Williams replied to Mord's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
No, I don't want to sort through all the irrelevant (modern warfare, weapons, etc.) information in those forums. Don't take things so personal. A question was asked by the OP as to whether or not we would like to see a CMBN specific Tips & Tricks forum. I (and several others) answered affirmatively. Some (many?) of us don't want to wade through the modern warfare stuff in the CMSF forums. As for who should be posting useful information in the proposed CMBN Tips & Tricks forum...anyone who wants to obviously. -
Grabbed it. Thanks. Now, are there any ASL "Normandy" scenarios that use only board 4?

Yes, I would like to see a CMBN Tips and Tricks forum here. No, I'm not going to look in the CMSF forums. -
Question about Panzerfaust's
Doug Williams replied to Kurt Jäger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yes, besides the aformentioned range issues of the Panzerfausts, you basically ordered your men to die. If they had been in PF range, they might have gotten lucky and took out one tank, then they would have died. Of course, they died anyway.... -
The Hide Command...
Doug Williams replied to Tactical Wargamer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yea I learned the hard way yesterday that "Hiding" squads can't see ****. (Pardon my French.) -
Wow, nice job Hawkmek.

Thanks GAJ. I've always appreciated your work.

Well, I would definitely like to see some ASL scenario conversions done. I enjoyed playing the CMx1 ASL conversions. Personally, I prefer the maps/scenarios to stay as close to the original ASL versions as possible, even if the maps look a bit sparse in CM.
-
Anyone doing any scenario/map conversions yet?

First Impressions (CM:BN Full Release)
Doug Williams replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Got my steelbook today. I'm in love with this game. Almost as much as I was with CMBO. Bravo. -

No, it is not. -
First Impressions (CM:BN Full Release)

Yep, W7 64 Bit and an ATI card (fairly high end). I'll make sure I have the latest drivers when I get home from work (darn work.....grumble). Fantastic game, BTW! I played a small QB last night and was laughing in glee as I snuck a light tank (Stuart I think) behind two Stugs and took them both out from behind before they could turn around. My wife thinks I'm weird. -
First Impressions (CM:BN Full Release)
Doug Williams replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Played my first quick battle today. So far, I love it! Still getting used to the UI. Still miss my command lines. Only one technical problem so far: I can't quit out of the game and have to bring up Task Manager to exit the game. -
Uninstalled the demo today. I'll wait for the full game before deciding if it's worth playing or not. So far...CMx1 wins..as far as being a fun game to play. With that said....Quick Battles are a lot of the fun for me...and those are not present in the demo. So I'll reserve judgement until I get the full CMBN game.

Release date anyone???
Doug Williams replied to jakla1027's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I had some trouble with freezes, getting it to load, etc. at first (Windows 7 64bit, ATI video card). After telling Spyware Doctor to "Always Allow" CM Normandy Demo.exe the problems seem to have disappeared (so far). -
Ah. Well, the CMx2 engine sure simulates the "fog of war" more accurately than CMx1. It remains to be seen (by me) whether or not this makes the game more fun to play.

Paper Tiger, thank you for that very informative answer. I'm going to print it out and keep it by my keyboard. I'm sure it's all in the manual, but your answer summarizes it quite nicely. I know CMx2 gives more C2 information, but I still really miss the command lines of CMx1. I also miss the threat (what is targeting this unit) and target (what is the selected unit shooting at) lines of CMx1. Is there something I'm missing in CMBN that gives me that?

How do I set-up units?
Doug Williams replied to tiger123's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Same here, although I only spent a few minutes trying to set them up before I said F-it and started playing. -
Of course, my luck, I not only didn't get to leave early, but I had to work over. When I got home (in record time), I proceded to install the demo and....wow....absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately, I had some "game freezing up" issues (Windows 7, fairly high end ATI card). Did manage to play (and lose) the tutorial scenario. Going to play it again in a few minutes. As an old CMx1 Veteran....it's going to take me a while (probably a long while) to become accustomed to CMx2. But....so far...I LOVE IT.

^^^^^this. The reason I (we) don't know how CMx2 works is we never played/liked/had any interest in CMSF (and sequels). If you can, when we ask questions, if you feel like answering, tell us "Oh, it was like this in CMx1, but in CMx2 you have to do fill-in-the-blank". BFC is going to have a lot of returning CMx1 customers that never played or didn't like CMSF.

Started the three hour download before I left for work this morning. Now I sit here at work thinking of what excuse I can use to leave early today.

Is Gameplay Better Than CMBB, How?
Doug Williams replied to Storm Chaser's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Which reminds me of something. There were a lot of ASL scenarios/maps that were converted to CMx1. Here's hoping that the same things happens with CMBN (and sequels). I realize that, due to copyright issues, Battlefront can't do official conversions, but we the players sure can.
