PENG CHALLENGES a Thread ...
Speedbump replied to Joe Shaw's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Iskander, wasn't sure whether your drunkin' rambling was actually accepting my challenge. However, letting Joe off the hook, Iskander, will not win you any points with me. I will hand you your still-beating heart. After all you get health care from a veterinarian, you careless, manure swallowing, penguin attacking, epicurean scion of a sweaty cow’s high-jumping lunacy. PENG CHALLENGES a Thread ...

Joe, Excuse me, but when I attended elementary school (did you?) they taught us basic grammer. To whit:
quote:
IF you're a scum sucking NEWBIE

By your definition, I am a scum sucking newbie.
quote:
and wish to participate

I thought it couldn't be too hard considering the level of intelligence in the pool
quote:
then SOUND OFF like you got a pair and INSULT, TAUNT or otherwise HARRASS someone in PARTICULAR

okay, while my initial post missed this point, please accept the following: You bend down and sniff before you flush, you tree-hugging, bug slurping, frog violating, unwanted child of a eunuch's auto-erotic ingenuity. Now send me a setup. Clearly, your command of the english language does not extend to composing your thoughts in writing, on this thread. So I will repeat, you owe me a setup. Well it is clear that I will have to challenge a member of this "community" I call you out Iskander. Although, I must admit to being uncomfortable associating myself with someone who eats stuff you find in the catbox, you foolish, mildew biting, duck harassing, gene-spliced production of an oboe waving marathon runner. Should you wish to rise to this challenge, send a setup. Speedbump -

Iskander, you clearly can't read. Please refer to the original post which specifically requests the presence of "scum sucking NEWBIEs"! It appears that you steal food from the cat’s dish, you careless, mildew devouring, seal abusing, chemically-based cub of a diseased monkey. Now I will sit back and await your apology. Speedbump -

Its clear to me that the denizens of the cesspool are simply full of themselves. In fact, you lick yourself instead of bathing, you uneducable, mold smelling, sheep molesting, carpet-bagging whelps of Richard Nixon's secret indiscretions! You should spend less time posting and more time playing! Speedbump Disclaimer: Taunt not original, but couldn't resist. [ 04-11-2001: Message edited by: Speedbump ] -

More Info on British Unit
Speedbump replied to Speedbump's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
That's it!! My only question is does this unit fit in the scope of CM? Please mod it!!! Speeds -
I included the following note on another thread, but am seeking more information on this unit.I seem to remember that some time in the past I saw an interesting documentary. It was produced by a gentleman named Monty Python (a Brit, I think). It seems that the British Army had a unit that would run through the battlefield chanting a phrase in German. The Germans as a result were incapacitated (in some cases killed) from laughter. Does CM model this unit? Please do somefink! Speedbump

I understand the crew arrangements in a turreted vehicle, but am somewhat unclear about the arrangements within a non-turreted AFV (ie. STUG). Where does the vehicle commander sit and what kind of visibility does he have to fight the vehicle? Speedbump

Do you think venison tastes gamey?
Speedbump replied to Croda's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I can't personally speak to the manueverist vs. attritionist argument in the U.S. as I have not personally observed any actual CM deer movies. However, I believe that I can speak to areas in Central Europe. While spending six months in Budapest, Hungary (and eventually marrying a local (although that is a story for another thread)), I noticed that most restaurants had a Entree with the english translation as "Game" or "Game of the Day". Now clearly, these dishes were simply the roadkill found by the restaurants scouts (not sure if they used split squads on foot or banzai jeeps). In this context it is clear that the former Warsaw Pact tactic is clearly maneuverist (ie hit it with a moving vehicle). Speedbump -
Many sites host custom scenarios. Try Manx at www.combat-missions.net or CMHQ . I am sure that there are many others! Speedbump

Sort of Poll : Where's the "magic" in CM ?
Speedbump replied to Pascal DI FOLCO's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
For me it is the randomness factor. With many games, once you figure out the tricks or tactics, they will work consistently every time in the future. With CM, you learn the tactics, but you are not guaranteed the same results. This means that you have to react differently each time. Speedbump -
I am suggesting that my intention was to place a unit (often a Priest or comparable unit), which I don't plan on moving immediately, completely undercover. My concern is because the tool is linear, you would need to check up to 180 degrees at various distances to assure that it is out of sight. In real life, this would take but a moment to survey the location, but in the game can take much longer. This is magnified by the number of units being reviewed. Speedbump

I have played the game for 6 months now, so I feel that I can comment to some degree on playability. I absolutely agree that a LOS tool "from any point" is unrealistic, bordering on gamey. However, I would like to see a tool that would be easier to use similar to the EF series. I understand that processing requirements may prevent an all encompassing shadow map, but how about widening the current line to a cone of 30-45%? Would this address the processing power issue? The main reason this is an issue for me is the first turn of a game. How many times have you thought you checked out all LOS from you starting positions, only to find out you missed that one area, which coincidentely is where the AI or your opponent placed his AT or armor? I have lost more than my share of units without them ever moving. Is this my fault, absolutely. However, I do not consider it enjoyable to spend a tremendous amount of time checking ever single spot on the map. My thought is that this functionality would speed up some parts of the game without giving the player extra capabilities. Of course, it would need to be balanced with the technical restrictions. My $.02. Speedbump
