  1. It is rare that we get someone who is quite so open about their racist views.
  2. Nice cheap shot, but if anything, Herr Schorner would be more comfortable on the Left side of American politics. Ultra-environmentalist, pro-animal rights, anti-Christian, almost certainly pro abortion (from his stance on eugenic,), probably pro gun control (Hitler certainly was), anti-free market.
  3. Oh, yes the differences would have certainly been respected. The Jews were different, so into the death camps. The Slavs were different, so slave labor or the firing squad for them. The French were only a little different, so most could live, and only a relative handful are to be forced into slave factory work. And the Economy would have certainly not been based on interests, at least not of the average citizen. The leaders of the Reich and owners of Krup on the other hand...
  4. Dr. Suess thought it was the invasion of Russia. From a July 1941 editorial cartoon:
  5. I'm very sorry that most of the lot of you sorry bastages are going to hell. Since I am such a caring person, I’d like to help you out. I have a limited time special on plenary indulgences. Absolution from your sins for a mere $29.95 - VISA and Master Card accepted (I'd charge more, but I suspect that this figure is pushing the limits of the worth of your eternal souls). Hurry while supplies last.
  6. Since you mentioned The French and babblefish, I present this in honor of our long lost PawBroom: The French National Anthem: Let us go children of the Fatherland, the day of glory arrived! Against us of tyranny, the bloody standard is raised, Entendez you in the Mugir campaigns these wild soldiers? They come until in your arms Egorger your sons and your partners! Refrain With the weapons, citizens, Form your battalions, Marchons, go! How one impure blood Waters our furrows! What wants this horde of slaves, Of traitors, entreated kings? For which these wretched obstacles, These irons as of prepared a long time? French, for us, ah! what a insult Quels transport it must excite! It is us whom one dares to contemplate to return to the antique slavery! What! foreign troops Would make the law in our homes! What! these phalanges mercenaries Would embank our proud warriors! Large God! by connected hands Our faces under the yoke are ploieraient With cheap despots would become the Masters of our destinies! Tremble, tyrants and you perfidious opprobrium of all the parties, Tremblez! your parricidal projects finally will receive their prices! All is soldier to fight you, If they fall, our young heroes, the ground in product the new ones, Against you any loans to be fought! French, as warriors magnanimes, Carry or retain your blows! Save these sad victims, A regret being armed against us But these sanguinary despots, But these accomplices of Bouillé, All these tigers which, without pity, Déchirent the centre of their mother! Crowned love of the Fatherland, Lead, supports our arms Liberté avengers, Most cherished liberty, Combats with your defenders! Under our flags that the victory Runs to your males accents, Which your expiring enemies Voient your triumph and our glory! We will enter the career When our elder is not there any more, We will find there their dust And the trace of their virtues less jealous Bien to survive to them Than to share their coffin, We will have sublimates it pride Of
  7. Interesting calculations for the 324 balls in a 57mm round. How about for the aprox 900 balls in the more relevant 76mm round?
  8. Hi Guys. Well, I don’t quite know what this “Ping” thing is, but a couple of other threads have said that it is a good place to find opponents. Now the title is a little weird, and I don’t get all of the stuff you folks have posted, especially the leather pics (not that there is anything wrong with those…) but each to his own. What I am really here for is someone to play with. I haven’t played CMBB against a PBEM opponent in a while and thought I’d pop in here to see if anyone wants a game. I thought about trying that “Cherry Maggot’s TNT” place, but it was a little bit too angry for me, and this place seems so nice. If anyone wants to play, I’ll take Germans in late 42, no rarity, all armor, flat, open. Any takers? Thanks, Bye Bye
  9. I read somewhere (don't remember where) that aside from the fact that the T34 could do everything the T70 could and more (remember that cost in CM terms is intended to reflect battlefield value, not actual relative production cost) the reason that the T70 production went down was that the chassis and/or the production lines were needed for tank destroyer (SU-76 and friends) production.
  10. The Alaska “placed in inactive status commission, in reserve" at Bayonne, on 13 August 1946, ALASKA was ultimately placed out of commission, in reserve, on 17 February 1947.The large cruiser never returned to active duty. Her name struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 June 1960, the was sold on 30 June 1960 to the Lipsett Division of Luria Brothers of New York City, to be broken up for scrap.” And the Guam: “Clearing San Francisco 5 December 1945, GUAM arrived Bayonne, N.J., 17 December. She remained there and decommissioned 17 February 1947; GUAM berthed with the New York Group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet until 1 June 1960 when her name was struck from the Navy List. She was sold for scrapping 24 May 1961 to the Boston Metals Co., Baltimore, Md.”
  11. What was the ratio of Panthers and Tigers to Stugs and Mark IVs? The reasons for delay in teh Allies meeting the early timetables in Normandy were multiple: Green troops, insufficient use of combined arms tactics by both Brits and U.S. (green troops and developing doctrine), terrain far more suitable to the defense in the U.S. sector (see how well those panzers faired when the Germans went on the offensive e.g. Mortain counter offensive).
  12. Might be interesting to design a battle where the attackers force consists of 2 groups. A small recon force, and a larger attack force. The designer would place the two forces in different parts of the set-up zone, with the attack force set up in a location that is not vissible from the defenders set-up area. On the first run througn, the attacker can only use his scout force, and the battle will continue until a briefing defined number of casualties are reached, or until the attacker feels he has enough information. Then the battle is restarted.
  13. That may be, but I still have your dog's ears. (I took them from Croda).
  14. Only the Sheman Jumbo was 40 tons. The Easy 8 weighed in at about 34 tons.
  15. Sir [lowercase] rune, since you are still mucking about in the Cess, I'll take you up on that offer from last thread of a new battle to test (I need something to motivate me in getting back to PBEM). Something on the smallish side please, nothing like that last abomination that strangled my machine.
  16. It has much more than the desert. From BFC's anouncement: "Combat Mission: Afrika Korps (CMAK) moves the focus to three new regions of conflict. North Africa from 1940-43 Italy (including Sicily) from 1943-45 Crete in 1941" This means that we will have 1) non-desert terrain (italy), and most of the 1944-45 orders of battle for US, UK, and German. End result: Most of Western Europe after Normandy will be possible. This is almost a retrofit for CMBO plus North Africa.
  17. Nothing but a little speculation. This is a wargame board devoted to WWII games. Seems to be a natural place for a little harmless spectulation on the military outcome of a war between Sov. Union and the Western Allies following WWII. Not one word (until now) was given to a reason, nor is a reason necessary to look at the military aspects. Now, as to outcome, I think it might be dependent on who was on the offensive. Soviets wouldn't have had much of a chance if they were the ones attacking, (already overextended supply lines would have come under serious air attack, U.S. had already proved rather tough on the defensive e.g. Mortain, Ardennes) but would have given a better account on the defense.
  18. And only 2 terrain levels, no comand and control (in a game that can have regimental sized units), no moral effects to speak of, and only one speed for vehicles. It is a fine game in some regards, but not a substitute for a modern version of CM.
  19. The tactic is fine. If a defender chooses to give ground without a fight, and spend many points on arty, it does shift some advantage to the attacker, provided that the attacker does not oblige the defender and place large amounts of his units on uncontested VLs.
  20. If you think they were bad, wait until you run into a Russian SMG platoon HQ in the middle of the woods.
  21. Not only German MGs, but Allied as well. Maxims kick ass. And the killing power hasn't been increased so much as the suppressing power.
