Is there anything that comes close to the CM games?
Mord replied to Johnlondon125's topic in General Discussion Forum
The ability to watch and re-watch cool moments like that makes WEGO worth every penny of development time they dumped in it. That's one little moment in what's probably a 30 turn+ battle, so imagine ALL the other stuff that is going on during the fighting. CM is one of the very few game titles that actually affords you the means to enjoy ALL the graphics and not just the stuff you are focused on at a given moment. I've said it a million times and I'll say it again. What is the friggin' point of having all these cool graphics when you can't enjoy them because you have to play the game at nose bleed altitude so you don't lose. It's idiotic and infuriating all at the same time. Anyway, CM doesn't do that. You'll see stuff so cool you'll want to alt-tab out so you can start a thread and tell everyone about it. Mord. -
Well, you and @IanL and the other Beta boys start harping. Spy portraits etc. need to be put back in. Little things like that make a difference. Mord.

I cheered and clapped during the final scene of Hoffa...you know? where they load Nicholson and DeVito's bullet ridden bodies into the box truck? Mord.

Two Dead shirts to be exact. Plus a Coke shirt, Nike and a tie-dye. I thought they were cool little touches. I hand made all of them. NOW you guys have to get on BF about re-implementing the spy portraits! SF2 still doesn't utilize them, the Army Armor or Canadian Armor and Infantry portraits. BE really nice if they'd give the Republican Guards and Regular (mech) Syrians their own Armor portrait instead of sharing one with the Reserves. Mord.

LOL. Just dicking around with you guys. I took the day off. I've been modding straight for 12 days. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many hours that adds up to but I needed a breather. Mord.

That's known in the brain sciences as passive-aggressive. Mord.

I thought about posting some mod pics but then I was like, nah, I don't want to interrupt this riveting discussion. Mord.

No more vehicles moving through each other! I HATE that! It looks stupid! @Sequoia, no it's not. Mord.

I am looking forward to that one as well. You should give Order Of Battle WWII a try. It's a lot of fun with just enough depth to make it interesting without bogging down in minutiae. It reminds me of Unity but a bit deeper with a different art aesthetic of course. It's free to try on Steam. You can play one scenario from each DLC if I remember correctly. I played the Pacific tutorials and had so much fun I got the DLCs a couple days later. The thing I really like about it is you can play as the Japs (starting in China), Marines, Army, Burma with the CW, then there's the Winter War as the Finns, and of course the typical stuff like Germans in North Africa, East Front, etc. Check'er out if you don't know about it, it's a great laid back beer & pretzels game. And if you dig ancients, I HIGHLY recommend Field of Glory II. They've made it all the way to the Viking Age as of the last DLC. Mord. -

I linked to them above. Here it is. Mord.

Made these guys this morning. Stalled out hard on the Armored Infantry. Spent way too long accomplishing nothing so I am done for today. Mord.

Made this guy for you today. Took quite awhile! He ended up being a much different style than the first guy so I whipped up this dude to get a bit closer to the same art. Isn't perfect but fits better than the first one. This is how I arrived at him. Mord. -
Thanks, man. I think there's upward of 64 factions just for the Syrians. I threw some Easter Eggs in there just for you — been waiting to see if you noticed. HINT: Pay attention to the Spy t-shirts. And I added that basic Iraqi set so you could play the Iraq scenarios with their flag if you wanted. I really like the Globe & Anchor flag for the Jarheads. Thought that was cool. created a crapload of extra work though! Mord.

Actually it was Mjkerner that created those and he did some for Italy as well as BN. http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2166 You may, or may not have to rename the files. I haven't looked at them in a while. As for me doing some. I couldn't say yes or no. I have a ton of modding going on with the portrait updates. Mord.

You forgot one thing... Unless... Mord.

You just released a GIGANTIC mod for SF2 but that was two days ago. So, what have you done for me lately, Mord? Mord.

Looks like a scene from Saving Private Ivan. Mord.

I'm not sure if you are gonna find anything that satisfies you. The skyline gets zoomed in on depending on the map size. I first noticed this back when Kieme made that horizon mod with the power lines for BS. Sometimes it would look great and others the structures would look squat and fat. I suppose the quickest way to test this would be to experiment with blank maps, expand and subtract the tiles until you get the resolution you want. It may end up being a specialized background that only looks nice under specific circumstances. Good luck with it! Mord.

There's a list of all the SF2 portrait names in the ATTENTION readme. It also details which portraits SF2 is currently not utilizing. Also, another good tip, if you are not sure what a file name is you can always down load a similar mod and check the bmp/wavs. Mac users can't rez explode so they are out of luck when it comes to checking that way. I never brz any of my mods because of that. Mord.

LOL. I noticed you have the Vietnamese Names created. That must of been a MFer! Does it look alright on your monitor? I am on my old comp right now, connected to me 40 Inch TV and the colors look like crap. I only get the true color when I use my other comp and monitor. Thanks, man. That's some sweet praise. Appreciated. It helps that I had just redone the Dutch three times, the Canadians 2 1/2 and the Germans 2 1/2. Plus I probably created and deleted over a 1000 pics for the SF2 mod so my reflexes are still pretty sharp right now. And I got lucky. I find that if I don't get something decent looking within about five to ten minutes It's probably gonna be a wash. The longer I spend on it the more likely it's gonna suck. Which you'd think would be the opposite! But if I can get a good looking face right off the bat (after I shrink everything) I can spend the rest of the time detailing and fixing any glaring problems. LOL. No worries. I accept your IOU. Mord. -
Thank you! Have fun with them! Mord.

LMAO! EVERY time Sequoia posts I find five other things in the link that would look awesome in game. It's a rabbit hole the size of the Grand Canyon. The guardrail looked incredible (bottom right of the same link as the billboard). Pretty sad when you get excited about a "guardrail!" Mord. -

@37mm Here's a test I spent about an hour or so designing, this morning. I was curious to see what I could pull off after thinking about how I might approach it, last night. I took the Syrian Reserve bust template from the SF2 mod, replaced the helmet with a helmet from an FI template, grabbed a Vietcong face off the net, did some blending, added easier to distinguish eyes, ran some hue adjustments on the skin and helmet, and threw it on a jungle background. I think they look pretty good. I actually prefer the one on the left but it's harder to see his Vietnamese-ness. Here's the bmps. Right click, save and rename them to whatever you need and you can test them in game. Mord.
