  1. I may be wrong but global morale might have something to do with this. Also, depending on the battle type (probe, assault, etc) crews might be more willing, depending on their SOPs, to fight rather then fly.
  2. Ahh, women and the BFC forums... interesting combination. When one of the "fair sex" did come up before, she was either Kitty or the disgruntled wife/girlfriend who finally fed the CD to the dog. Whats next?
  3. I guess the orthodox answer to your question would be "try that again with x kilos of gear on your shoulders, after having marched 30 miles in the past two days." But I dont know. In either case, it seems reasonable to me that tacAI would plot new orders for men under fire in clear ground to sneak towards the nearest cover. It somehow looks realistic to see such small unit movements that happens out of its own accord, much like a real platoon HQ would momentarily lose c&c over its subordinate squads while the squads disperse for cover. The game allows you to try to overcome this: but to that you must first cancel the sneak orders plotted by the tacAI and therefore suffer a penalized command delay, adjusted for the experience level of the units. Just another way to integrate something as intangible as experience into the gameplay, as opposed to it being represented solely by higher hit chance, acurracy, etc.
  4. One would think that Germans would have included "tips on engaging your new worst nightmare: the T-34" in the field manual, or whatever they call training documents in the Reich. But then again, perhaps these things were not very well known?
  5. Have you ever had a freemason relative and asked him about it?
  6. My prayers are with you. Let me know how things turn out. I've ordered from US a few things while in Istanbul, including a graphics card, and had no problems with customs. At most a week's delay. I may have been just lucky, but these things do take a while, esp. if it was sent through surface mail.
  7. "Off". Since my first EAX card, I've never been able to see these pre-set "effects" as anything more than a clever marketing gimmick. EAX sometimes makes sense if a game is changes sound effects dynamically according to your character's position but few games do that. Of course, if you prefer a bit more echo or reverb added to every sound you'll hear on CMBB, all I can say is to go ahead and experiment.
  8. Glad to hear that; their stories are certainly touching. One swimming the Volga, and the other going to look for family relatives right after he lays down the gun... One feels the raw human substance of war even in the few paragraphs you have written.
  9. Well said. Raw numbers do not mean much, but multiply every single person you have seen in your lifetime by some factor and imagine every single one of them dying or dead in the war...
  10. Yes, I am clueless. I can use some advice on what they are, their tactical uses, advantages, disadvantages and AT uses.
  11. I am confused.. What does "apropos" mean? (From a dictionary) ---------------------- ap·ro·pos (ăp'rə-pō') adj. Being at once opportune and to the point. See synonyms at relevant. adv. At an appropriate time; opportunely. By the way; incidentally: Apropos, where were you yesterday? prep. With regard to; concerning: Apropos our date for lunch, I can't go. ------------- Someone explain to me...
  12. Did you guys get any written info in the confirmation mail that was sent after the order was placed? I am getting concerned because there is still no box in sight and my confirmation mail has no text in it - just the subject and rest is blank.
  13. besides, the manual is just as much the intellectual property of BTS as the game itself - altough it should be noted that the inclusion of the pdf manual in the European version of the game will mean that everyone who gets a pirated CD of it will also have the manual. So I guess you save some, lose some...
  14. Being unacquainted with the US postal system, can someone please inform me wheter they make 2 deliveries per day or only one? If it is once a day ... well, no CMBB for me until at least monday. Ill go cry now...
  15. tick ... tock .... tick ....... tock ...........tick ..................
  16. After trying in vain to stop the Germans with those pesky 45s numerous times, I finally succeeded by setting up two positions with AT guns that gave each other covering fire - the ambush was triggered by 4-6 guns lying on a reverse slope from second to last hill that fired to right flank of enemy tanks descending the same hill while at the same time remaining guns opened up from the top of the hill closest to the soviet side of the map. And I finaly suceeded in getting a minor victory after time ran out. What I would like to ask is whether or not such setup of AT guns is historical and general pointers in AT gun positioning in maps with little wood cover, such as the Kurks scenario in the demo. Thanks.
  17. excuse my ignorant meddling, but would not the gun, once fired, recoil some distance when it is limbered and on its wheels? edit: when it is fired towards front or rear, that is. [ September 16, 2002, 12:46 AM: Message edited by: JunoReactor ]
  18. I refuse to let go of my love of the books. Yes, it has become hugely popular, the whole thing is now not more than any other thing which prostitutes itself for the mass appeal. But I refuse to let go because that would mean admitting the triumph of the system which would be to contradict myself, as I am critical of it. The thread is OT and so am I. I doubt any of you will understand what I have said in the preceeding paragraph, but that is allright since I am deliberately ambigious.
