  1. You dont want to know the pain on a Celeron 800 with a mere 64mb graphics card. WWB
  2. Sorry to be so blunt, but that is a crockload of bull. CMBB games are won by tactics--I have punished and been punished both attacking and defending. True, one must unlearn alot of CMBO tricks and learn what works, but the better tactics will previal in the end. Combat ain't no arcade game. And the attacker has it rough in many ways. The defender also has some issues to deal with, like being outnumbered and relying on fixed points where firepower can be massed. Are you saying that CMBO where hordes of SMG toting infantry could run about the battlefield with little to fear from weapons which made real soldiers eat dirt was more realistic? Interesting idea, but Keegan will be the first to tell you he has never been under fire. I would place alot more weight in words of those who have. WWB
  3. Wow, Rune said I was right. I am getting verklempt. For the record, I will tell you how it runs on an Athalon XP 2000+/GeForce 4 combo this weekend. WWB
  4. I am not with BFC, but I was a beta tester. What I described above is their function. They are not "radio vehicles" but more properly radio-equipped vehicles. WWB
  5. I respectfully disagree. These are very low poly units and a 4 year old engine. Do you know the poly counts on the infantry, AFV, and buildings? I find it impossible to believe that the sum of those polys is greater than BF1942 at full draw distance or Unreal Tournament 2003 w/ all details cranked. For example, Unreal Tournament 2003 uses 15,000-20,000 polys per player model. (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1476&p=2) Meanwhile, BF1942, in addition to high poly count models, is rendering outdoor environments with huge draw distances. I can't imagine that there are more than 20,000 polys in an entire battlion of infantry. Since my system can run UT2003 at full detail and 60fps with 16+ players on screen, it just doesn't make sense that fewer polys can cause stuttering. I'm not saying CMBB is bad; quite the contrary, I love it. Just that the engine can't handle an operation of that size and upgrading your hardware will not help.</font>
  6. Adding something like a tile is not a simple task. Back in the early beta days all the testers started whining for more tiles, and we got a resounding "Are you out of your f'n mind?" from BFC. Nothing in programming is as easy as it looks. WWB
  7. DirectX games cannot run higher than your desktop resolution. You could set your desktop resolution to 1600x1200 then turn on large type and large icons to make things readable. Then delete the CMBB Prefs file in your CMBB folder and fire up the game. It should detect at 1600x1200. You do need a fair bit of graphics horsepower to run at that res. WWB
  8. Aside from some playtesting and bug pinning, I find there to be no point in FOW settings less than extreme. There is also uber extreme, which involves drinking anti-freeze, blindfolding yourself, and sitting in a bathtub filled with ice cubes and mean kittens. WWB
  9. See the tech forum for details, but the issue is being dealt with. The files you might be missing are avaliable for download, and new CDs will be sent out. WWB
  10. I too have often wondered why this was left out. Yes it would be extremely useful. I 2nd the Y shaped fork for roads, hedges & fences. MrSpkr, you should add this to the thread named, what should be in the upcoming patch.</font>
  11. Argh. I am not wild bill, I just work with the guy. Not a bad guy to get mistaken for, but still. I, WWB, for the record, am not Wild Bill. WWB
  12. PBEM, saved games and QB Maps gets created automatically the first time you run the executeable. WWB
  13. Play the russians in 1941 and you kill for vehicles with radio. When in platoons, radio equipped vehicles stay in command when buttoned. This becomes a cruical weakness for the soviets early in the war as their tanks must button to fire, leading to a situation where you, the commander, looses control as soon as the shooting starts. Once out of command, even regular vehicles will suffer from 45+ second command delays. That is why I would take one platoon of panzer IIs against 3 platoons of T26s or BT7s. WWB
  14. Ahem! Ahem! There were some other people who made battles . . . WWB
  15. I did a book report on it in school. Interesting work, and apparently suprisingly frank given the time in which it was released. The one thing that really struck me about the work is how few of his friends survived to old age. Everyone died, most of them in rather horrid ways. WWB
  16. If they do run away without the wire, than they are useless as spotters anyhow. So why bother?
  17. Arty aim point is shifted semi-randomly. Less so if in LOS, very little if pre-spotted or on a TRP. Most likely yours were at the extreme end of randomness. WWB
  18. Yeah, looked at it last night. It is triggered by rarity--the ATR is not avaliable in June 41 to be purchased a la carte, making it rediculiously expensive. Note there is another type of motorized squad you can use for now. WWB
  19. Not here in Arlington on Weds either. Of course, last time a package was shipped to me from BFC it arrived 2 weeks late and pissed on, but that is another story. WWB
  20. Yeah, that is a rarity issue. Is it set to fixed or variable? WWB
  21. To get finns in the editor, the region must be set to finland and the date must be appropriate. To get hungarians or romanians or italians, you must be in South IIRC, and dates must be right. WWB
  22. Thanks Field Marshall. Having seen just about every scenario on the CD, I have to say it is real tough to pick a favorite. They are all very good, and there is something there for everyone. Well, except Mace and Harv cuz there are no sheep. WWB
  23. Actually, best trick I have found is to copy the install file off the CD then install from the HDD. Much quicker that way. WWB
