Rex, how often does this happen. It aint every time--I just spent the last 2 hours trying to replicate it and have not seen it. Seems like a bug, but a rather uncommon one to me. WWB

Actually, I would look at swapping out the soundcard before memory. TB Santa Cruz cards work quite well with VIA chipsets and can be had for $65 or so online. WWB

Ok, then it is a hardware or driver issue, not necessairly a CM issue. Could be one of several things: 1) the SB/VIA chipset issue I mentioned above. Their busses do not play well together. 2) Heat issue. 3) Botched direct X install issue. First thing to do is to: 1) dl current SB Live driver as well as the 30.8x nVidia drivers. 2) Uninstall Soundcard. 3) Uninstall video card, setting mode to standard VGA. 4) Install directX 8.x. 5) Install sound driver. 6) Install video driver. Watch out for VIA mobo/SB Live issues as well. Key question is if you are having problems in any other games. WWB

ATI GeForce2? ATI makes the competing Radeon line, so I doubt they are making nVidia based cards too. WWB

150mm infantry guns Coy OOB

Also represented in CMBB by the 2 gun 150mm howitzer spotter the germans can get. WWB -
LOS to roadblock/barbed wire = Contact?
WWB replied to Nolloff's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I have said it before and I will say it again. Troops stopping in the open 300m away from the enemy is not all that dangerous. Even 200m. 100m is a different story, but you should avoid getting that close without finding out they are there. The real killer is troops caught moving in the open. Best thing you can do in most cases is stop and return fire, which is what move to contact lets you do. WWB -
Not quite. When you are playing, the button's action is pause, hence the pause label. When you are paused, the button's action is play, hence the play label. WWB

Tank Companies - Medium vs Light
WWB replied to Green Hornet's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Soviet medium tank coy was 10 T34s (1 Coy HQ, 3x 3 T34 platoons). Light tank companies had similiar organizations but consisted of T60s or T70s. Also note that my source (Zaloga) does not list them in the 43/44 OOBs. WWB -
Operation design, a couple of quick questions.
WWB replied to Ziem's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
A) Usually horses (not in CMBB) or trucks. Aircraft are single-battle only phenomonon. They also will not show in the event of incliment weather. C) They will arrive as one big reinforcement jumble. Since you are setting up anyhow, you can put them in the HTs. In battles they will arrive embarked. WWB -
They disappeared because they started cowering/hiding or could have been killed. Then again, they could have snuck backwards. Without a unit very close you cant tell. Also, I have been doing some testing of various things and area fire is quite effective against stationary targets. WWB

Making own Battle/Operation newbie questions
WWB replied to vils's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It is all in the manual. To place units on the map, or flags, you need to first buy the units or set the number of flags then go into preview mode and place them, as you would setup for a QB. WWB -
I have seen it go either way. One op I am testing now as the attackers I have not got more than 2 additional turns and it is on the 3rd battle. Dont worry, you have got a lot of space to fall back into anyhow <G>. WWB
-
I think one thing going on here is that panic is not an entirely accurate word for what really happens in CMBB. It is actually a state where the unit has gone into a mode to do whatever it needs to survive. I have even seen paniced tanks take out multiple targets. So panicing while withdrawing makes sense, since the unit is not really under command and control. WWB

That is because you specifically cannot assault as a secondary waypoint. Such an order requires regrouping and such so must be started from a dead stop. WWB

And nothing puts a stop to a recon cloud o half squads and tank hunters like a nice screen of LMG teams. Really does a number on unsupported recon assets. WWB

Well, if you are using an always on broadband connection you NEED to be running some kind of software firewally. I reccomend Zone Alarm. As for your current problem, are you running over PPoE or standard TCP/IP? WWB

Athalons tend to do better than P4s in CM. Still, it is a huge battle and will take a while to compute on anything short of that new cray supercomputer (with 16,000 AMD hammer procs) at Sandia National Labs. WWB

I've got a funny feeling that what they do is add a "CLEAR" terrain type. I've not tested it though.</font>

Last time I checked offboard arty does not spot thru HQs. On map mortars can. WWB

Approach to Sevastopol: Bug or a mod error?
WWB replied to P5's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Methinks that is a typo. WWB -
Just tested with roadblocks & trenches, and they can't see squat near as I could tell. WWB

NIght Battle - Brightness Problem - HELP!!
WWB replied to Voxman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Have you adjusted the brightness on your monitor itself? I dont think this is a widespread problem, there are alot of GeForce Ti4200s floating about so someone should have reported it by now. WWB
