Other structural problems abound: 1) scoring them 2) too many permutations to really balance them. WWB

Overheating, or Here We Go Again...
WWB replied to Panzer Leader's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Have you considered the later generation Athalon XPs. They run cooler than the older thunderbirds. -
If you are seeing transparencies it sounds like you got it running. Try setting your desktop resolution higer then deleting your CMBO preferences file and starting the game. WWB

(AI) AFV (not) getting LOS by blowing light buildings
WWB replied to Monty's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
That would require conceptial thinking out of the AI, which is not really possible at this point. WWB -
Both of you do the following: Uninstall the drivers (if you have not already done so). Best method is to switch to "Standard VGA Display" Install DirectX8.1 from microsoft. Install 30.82 nVidia drivers downloaded from nVidia. If you are reinstalling on Windows 2000, it will likely pick up your old drivers automatically. Therefore one is better off unzipping the nVidia driver package, but not installing it, then telling the install wizard to look at that location when that option appears. WWB

If the file does not have that terminating line then it is not valid insofar as CMBB is concerned. Probably the mail service or clients involved. Usually the body of email messages has some limit, and oftentimes plain text messages get merged into the body of the email. Best bet is to zip the file, which will make it transfer as a binary attachment, clearing up such truncation issues. WWB

Well, explain "failed." Another key question is if you and your opponents are using the same (CDV vs. Battlefront) version of CMBB. WWB

Try hitting shift-L in the game. Looks like you have em turned off. WWB

Question about reinforcement dependability
WWB replied to Alsatian's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
That 10% chance means a 10% chance each turn. It is not cumiculative, etc. That means a 10% chance overall, with some mathmatical effect for the numbers of turn the reinforcement is possible. Don't ask me what the number is, I nearly failed prob-stat. WWB -
Slow down man. The above blurb is a bit tough to make sense of. Punctuation, capitals and line breaks help alot. From what I gather you have a rather low-end machine for CMBB in both graphics and processing power. Adding RAM will help alot as will adding a more modern Video Card. You need to find out if you have an AGP slot before buying a video card though. WWB

Yes, target in sight. Guns boresighted. I hope you all bought depends and no doz, cuz you are gonna need em. WWB

Just got the game. Best scenario to learn how to play
WWB replied to Paul 87 LX's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
A good place to start is the tutorials on the CD. After that there are many options. A Morning at the Zoo is a smallish combined arms engagement in a busy setting, and is good practice for assaulting with that type of force. In general, try the smaller scenarios on the CD first before graduating to the monster huge ones. Not on the cd, but great for practice with infantry I reccomend B&T Green Hell, avaliable from the Boots & Tracks link in my sig. WWB -
Seahawk, To change display in game you need to go to your CMBB folder (default is C:\Program Files\CMBB) and delete a little file called Combat Mission BB Prefs. The it will go thru the reset graphics resolution thing you should now be familiar with. WWB

Yea i cant see any thing when i open up the game
WWB replied to Seahawk56's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Ok, go back to the 30.82s then. They work quite well. WWB -
Have you tried just redirecting to your computer and only your computer. Running your computer in the DMZ is another decent option. I would also check and see if you can host hooked directly to the internet, without the router involved if that is not too much trouble. WWB

WWB replied to Seahawk56's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
We need more information to help you. But, shooting in the dark, are you using: 1) Current version of Direct X 2) 30.82 nVidia drivers That combo is the stable one WRT CM. WWB -
Hey, I have been trying to figure out what is going on here. I have my router configured to point TCP & UDP ports 7022 and 7023 to my computer. CM works both with and without zone alarm. I dont use black ice, so I cant say what issues apply with it. I would try and get things running without black ice up then add it once you can connect. That scanner also comes back saying the port is closed, which actually makes sense. It is only open when you have CMBx running waiting to connect. The thing you dont want to see is "stealthed." WWB

Did you set the covered arc so that it begins out of LOS of the covering unit? If not, the target acquisition thing could easily be explained by the fact that the enemy vehicle could see your vehicle before it entered the covered arc. WWB

Best solution is to stick with the 30.8x drivers until nVidia gets their act together again. WWB

Nividia Drivers 40.72 - Don't Work For Me
WWB replied to Voxman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The 30.82s work fine Voxman. Eventually nVidia will get their stuff together and we can move to the 40s. WWB -
Outside of western europe you can only get CMBB directly from Battlefront.com. WWB

I did try real hard to get Dergratschi Roadblock into the Medium range. In the end the conditional reinforcements bumped it up to large. It is real, real hard to make an operation in the medium range. Especially given conditional reinforcements, fortifications etc. count against you. Also remember that over the course of 8 battles stuff ads up. WWB

Rex, I too understand what you are describing. I have even seen it, but I have NOT been able to replicate it in any reliable way. Have you sent any of the PBEM files to Matt? WWB
