  1. I don't like giving up too much precius marketing space. I think date is important (I prefer using Month and a 2 digit year) but I don't want to make the subject line all informational. You can get most everything out of the heading of the next briefing anyhow, and space is very limited. WWB
  2. WWB, I'm currently divesting myself of a number of clients who consume more time for which I don't get adequately compensated. After the beginning of the year I'll be able to devote a greater amount of time to enhancing and correcting issues at The Scenario Depot, including adding a seperate "Self-Service" beta scenario section. I have the design for this feature all layed out, I just need the time and energy to put it together. I also have a super long list of things that needs to be attended to (actually there's two lists - the "HoneyDo" list and the Depot's list), but RL job demands necessarily come first.</font>
  3. Q: Try loading a backpack with 30 pounds of rocks, grab a full-sized hunting rifle with a wood stock, etc. Then sprint 300 yards and see how you feel. For realisim have someone get one of those tennis ball throwing machines to intermittently hurl 100 mph serves at you. WWB
  4. Why release all the patches at once? The answer is very simple--compatibility. There are already some wierd multiplayer issues that happen between versions, one major part of 1.01 is to address those issues. So the separate versions must be produced, once it is "feature frozen," and then tested. It would suck if we americans were playing with one version while europeans had to wait or vise versa. Not to mention the whole thing about releasing one good patch is better than a dozen buggy ones. The patch will be here before you know it, why don't you just relax and enjoy the already working game you have. I should note that this 1.0 version works better than a certain other 3d tactical wargame's 1.01 . . . WWB
  5. Thanks Harv. I have recieved ~10 pages of good tips from various folks and will try to get them up shortly. One call for help---I need a mac techie's assitance. WWB knows PCs, but when it comes to Macs WWB knows diddly. Also, stay tuned for a major revamp of the site . . . WWB
  6. Regarding the scenario DB, how about a scenarios in testing DB. There really needs to be a place for it, as beta scenarios should not be at the depot but people are putting them there anyhow. This would cover a gap nicely. WWB
  7. Ok, send those saves to matt@battlefront.com with a good summary of what you have said here. Also note if you or your opponent have been using a CDV version of the game. WWB PS: you are correct, only one computer processes the turn. [ November 18, 2002, 09:20 AM: Message edited by: wwb_99 ]
  8. Hmm, yeah, that map does suck. There are no factories and sewers. Nevermind that it is a small village without running water, and there are no large heavy buildings for sewers to connect to. I will endevour to please you in the future, voxie. Mike--thanks for the compliments, most of the playtesters loved the map as well. Vox--speaking of childish, no one has called me by that name since elementary school. Not to mention your sig-line whines. Great form, I am sure BFC is scrambling on your behalf. If you even read the tech forum you should have noted that nVidia has already been contacted. Speaking of maps, you want sprawling factories, sewers and such. Well, have you ever considered designing your own. I am sure it won't be nearly as childish and sucky as mine. WWB
  9. Medium quality can be green or regular. The autopurchaser chose green as the base. The 9 regular units were in the 10% fudge group. WWB PS: If you want a balanced game, the best idea is to leave as few factors to random chance as possible. The randomization happens before the program has any idea of number of players, so it cannot be sensitive to making a balance 2-player game. 10. Or have a 3rd party make it for you. WWB
  11. Ok, I will agree that it aint heat. My box runs at 50 C or so and I dont get heat issues with extended CM sessions, so I would bet you don't. Possibly bad hardware, but it works for everything but CM. When it was crashing in XP did you get anything in the errorlog? WWB
  12. Next time the crashing starts, try letting the computer rest for a few hours. Sounds like a heat issue to me, not a driver issue. I have a 4400 and have had no issues. WWB
  13. Which scenario T? And hold onto the savegame file. WWB
  14. You get the option to play "operations" best described as a series of linked scenarios. There is no single player campaign mode per se. WWB
  15. Even simpler with winzip. Start the reply to the message and add attachment. Then right click and choose add to pembfile.zip then you can go to the end of the file list and add the zip without ever leaving the attachment window. WWB
  16. Russia is actually pretty dry in the winter. So there is not too much snow coming down (the CM weather setting). It is also real cold so what snow does arrive tends to hang around until april. This is the ground setting. And with the 1.01 patch you will get snow on the ground in winter QBs. WWB
  17. You need a program such as winzip to open the file the extract the .cme file to your CMBB/Scenarios folder. WWB
  18. Hey folks, Seeing as how we techie types are answering the same questions repeatedly, I decided to put together a quick CM Technical Knowlegebase webpage. This is a work in progress and is by no means complete. A few questions for the crowd: 1) Please submit and questions (and answers if you got em) to me via email to wwb099@directvinternet.com or post them here. 2) If any kind soul can give me PHP hosting and an MS Access ODBC link, contact me immediatly. It is a relatively simple site to be run off a database but I don't have the facilities. Note it will be pure text so that bandwith will be minimal. WWB
  19. OpenGL is a viable cross-platform option now, but when the graphics core of CM was written OpenGL was not so viable and Apple was declaring that RAVE was not dead. So we started down the road into the present quandry. WWB
  20. I'd be paying for the broadband anyway. The server is in my house and I do all the programming myself. It's what I do for a living. I set it all up about 6 months ago and got the idea to host the mods when I got tired of chasing them down. Anyone need a Lotus Notes Domino programming to do website work or database work?? 21. With the quickness that troops go to ground in CMBB, so long as you are not right on top of the enemy one can easily get away with move. What happens when moving troops get fired upon by an MG or two at 250m? Most likely they will go to ground, probably not even taking a casualty and start sneaking. So, next turn, change that sneak waypoint into an advance and get em the hell out of the way. Or just halt them and return fire. This absolute aversion to the move command is kind of funny to me. WWB
  22. If its an IRQ problem, most likely you would be getting nasty crashes and blue screens of death. WWB
