  1. Why does everyone rush to explain why Combat Mission's AI is doing the right thing even when it blatantly is not? It could just be - shock horror - that CM got it wrong and that AP should have been used!!!
  2. IIRC the Tiger II was designed in 1939 by Adolf Hitler. The initial production run were all hand crafted from congealed concrete, and these early designs also featured the infamous "Henschel" hexagon-shaped turret. After Himmler had finished test driving the Tiger II in 1941, it entered full production. Initially sporting a 158mm gun this was upgraded to 124mm because most Allied tanks were crap. By the end of the 20,000 Tiger IIs had been manufactured, but only two dozen actually saw active service. Hope this helps, Bates.
  3. OMG it's not like anyone is obliged to submit details of their scenarios. Talk about passing shots...
  4. Buried amongst the reams of text I found this snippet: "The contribution snipers made to the entire thing, therefore, cannot possibly be more than 1/5th, and 1/50th is probably more like it. Somewhere between those two numbers." Gee that narrows it down!!
  5. There's also a trick to find out if enemy troops are in a building, not sure if it is a bug or not.
  6. Well I'll add my thoughts if I can... I might be wrong on this, but does anyone else think that people from Cornwall, Devonshire, Somerset sound vaguely North American-ish? If you listen to "I've Got A Combine Harvester" by The Wurzels (from Somerset) it sounds exactly like you'd expect some American red neck to talk (no dis-respect intended )
  7. Fortunately movies are not made for and judged by WW2 freaks. The general public, including 50% women, need more than brain-dead blood n guts. I think that Enemy At The Gates is successful at want it is trying to do: I don't think it's intended to be an out-and-out war film so people will be disapointed if they go to a cinema expecting this.
  8. You have to realise that different things are expected of different actors. An actor trained in Europe will be called upon to play perhaps a sympathetic supporting role to the main star, or even a villain or foil for the hero. The formation of a modern Hollywood movie tends to be dicatated more by the North American market: so the hero or main player, from that part of the world, is going to act differently. It's plain to see that actors from seperate parts of the world are used in varying ways.
  9. Guys, I am trying to be constructive!! Rob's website is the only one which can be read from outer space.
  10. Having just seen the film, I am happy to have British accents for the Russians. If the actors had been told to do Russian accents then they would have, it is hardly their fault. The alternative was Russian actors speaking English. In any case it's better to have British actors trying their best than some hot-headed American actor spitting and yelling his pro-Stalin lines across the screen. Joseph Fiennes and Ed Harris were both good, although I sensed slight German and Jewish stereotypes - unintentional but unfortunate nonetheless.
  11. The text on the news page needs to be bigger, at the moment my next-door neighbour can't really read it.
  12. But he might be S.S. (Ed Harris' character, not George Bush).
  13. Why don't you integrate your database with the ASP or PHP system. People could upload and download scenarios at the same site, search for specific theatres/divisions/countries etc etc. Would seem to be the way to go.
  14. You bunch of miserable vultures, Laser Squad was around in the 1980s. I had it for the Atari. It pre-dates X-Com by nearly a decade. A truly excellent two player game if I remember correctly. One player would defend and the other attack. Weapons included standard laser guns and massive rocket launchers. Ah those were the days.
  15. LOL this is like building a car with no wheels.
  16. You seem to be pulling figures out of your backside and then drawing pompous and obscure conclusions.
  17. It's not as if their web operation needs to be constantly updated so a bit of intensive work would suffice. Obviously they could not use screenshots featuring mods, but the GI Combat site looks better for a game which I would be surprised is as good as CM.
  18. Um why? Any weapon with that effectiveness would be trashed or given to the French.
  19. Private Paurtz, I purchased Combat Mission and was extremely pleased with it. The gameplay was good and the detailing historically accurate. But I strongly urge you to think before you buy this game - I was playing Combat Mission when I noticed a strong smell of burning plastic. I tried to ignore it but it the smell increased for every minute I played. Feeling ill from the smell, I made the decision to remove the Combat Mission CD from the drive and place it back in its case. I quickly got a shock: as I reached to the CD drive the Combat Mission disk WAS ON FIRE and it was the rubber silicon in my wig which was melting. I screamed and ran to my next door neighbour where the kind old lady put me out with ice cold water. After heavy reconstrucive surgery I am slowly getting my life back. The doctor reckons I've got a good six months left in me yet. So think before you buy Combat Mission. Regards, Bates.
  20. Yes, I think in the UK it was still known as Willing Flesh up to the 70s but after the success of the film that might have changed with subsequent republishings.
