  1. The big 3 are over-unionised and badly run. Let 'em go bust, they'll get bought out.
  2. .. invasion. What were the comparative distances? How far away from the Stalingrad pocket were the airstrips? TIA, just general layman info wanted.
  3. The current crisis has nothing to do with the free market. We should have had a corrective recession after the dotcom bubble (also stoked by the fed) but it was not allowed to happen.
  4. What is it like, is it too warm? Got some spare time right now, thinking of going to New York for shopping, sightseeing, museums etc. Never been before BTW. http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/10001
  5. The Danes are Germanics. The Poles & Latvians are Balto-Slavic. The Italians are largely Romance. No Celtic there..... BTW, "Celtic" is a BS term anyway. The Irish are Upper Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers who think they are Celts and the English are Celts who think they are Germanic.
  6. Hi just trying out the new forum.
  7. The problem with the heavy fist strategy is that the defender will know they will lose, and lose quickly. But they will attempt to blunt the enemy forces enough to achieve an acceptable defeat. 80-90% of the entire force on one map is a juicy target for rocket artillery. I think that the decisive battles will occur when both sides think that it is a battle they can win. If the Axis don't fancy their chances they will withdraw or field a token force, and vice versa for the Allies. But eventually both sides will make a judgement that it is time to "put up". But to an extent I am still concerned that one player on each team will do the mass of the fighting, with the other player(s) placing their AT guns and waiting to die (but destroying some expensive AFVs in the process).
  8. Informative answers. Will it be possible for one force to be attacked from, for example, the North and South at the same time? I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out, and if the larger map works naturally with the various tactical maps. Even if the result is short of total realism, there must be room for risk-taking, geographical advantage, bluff and movement. And not waiting for the two largest forces to clash in one decisive battle, with everything else irrelevant.
  9. Regards game style, do the forum members think that the team leaders (in a 3 or 4 person team) will be cautious... or will they try to "overload" in one sector with a massed attack to force the game. The other thought I had in games with many players, will be when a team is losing, will it run out of tasks for their team members to do? Because obviously, if one side are running low on units the tendency would be to have two strong forces rather than four weakened forces. I suppose the PBEM files would be shared amongst the team for input and advice before finally sending them on to the opposing side.
  10. Just browsed the Blitz, looks good and active. I will join tomorrow. I need to buy a copy of CMBB for my PC. Last time I was regularly playing CMBB was two years ago on Mac. Hopefully CMC will re-energise the CM community and gear everyone up for Shock Force and the eventual CMx2 WW2 game. I liked it in the old days when CM was new and lots of mods were being created and AARs written up.
  11. Surely the CM community is large enough to support a dedicated ladder. Couldn't BFC consider an "official" ladder/match-up service? Yes, I know there are these forums. But there must be a bettter way of doing this instead of releasing CMC into the wild and hoping for the best.
  12. CMC could kick-start the CM community, but are there many CM ladders still in existence? I remember Rugged Defense, I don't think it's operational any more.
  13. Guh... I thought that BMP files were universally read by both Mac and PC! This is a tricky one. I'll try re-saving the files on my Mac as TIFs, transfer them to my PC, then re-save as BMPs. The principle here seems to be that a PC file can be read by a Mac without a hitch, yet not the other way around.
  14. After a couple of requests for the conversion mod, here it is. The mod changes the CMBB order menus and interface to that of CMBO. Anyone is welcome to host it. http://snow.prohosting.com/cmbb/interface.zip (1.8 MB) I can't get preview pictures to appear with this webspace unfortunately.
  15. CMBB is the better simulation, CMBO is a better game.
  16. Looking at those specs, I think you need to upgrade your graphics card. 128MB cards are so October 2002. Everyone I know is using a MicroTech 192MB Extermotron card.
  17. It just means he is rating what the graphics look like. 56% is in the upper region of the scale from 1 to a 100. And given that CMBB's graphics are essentially from a two or three year old graphics engine, that is probably a fair score.
  18. Are you going to charge money for this mod pack? will there be a discount for people who wear brown flared trousers?
  19. Sorry Bates but discussions and instructions regarding HEX Editing are not permitted here, regardless of what they do. The reinforcement turn number display issue with the German version will be fixed in the forthcoming v1.01 patch... Madmatt [ October 09, 2002, 08:41 AM: Message edited by: Madmatt ]
  20. That doesn't even make sense, they had to change views... because they added views? Personally... I think that CMBBs views are *great* for Armor battles, but are sucky sucky for moving infantry about (compared to CMBO). The solution would be to make View 3 the same as it was in CMBO, or to make Views user-definable. BTW wwb_99 if you have nothing constructive to add, stop whining in this here thread
  21. Scunthorpe North Lincolnshire. Escumetorp 1086 "Outlying farmstead or hamlet of a man called Skuma". Old Scandinavian persons name + thorp.
  22. Anyone remember the "helper program" that was an online chat program (like Gamespy/Gameranger) specially created for Combat Mission? I seem to remember it automatically started up Combat Mission, so it seemed like a very nice way of organising TCP/IP games. There was also a web site, but I forget the name of the program. What has happened to it? Is it Mac and PC or PC only?
  23. I hate to say this but you don't legally have a leg to stand on. If CDV wants to sell CMBB in German or Chinese that is up to them. In the same way, a French book publisher cannot be forced to sell A History of Frogs Legs in Spanish or English, even if they have plenty of Spanish copies in their warehouse. Of course, if the letter is not serious and a tongue-in-cheek joke, I apologise in advance.
  24. Just an idea, but Ebay has lots of Soviet badges and stuff. The pictures are all in colour.
