Question from a Newbie
Hiram Sedai replied to Edward Wehrenberg's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I just learned how to do this last night by accident. I sent two squads of infantry against the same and zoomed in on the action. Very impressive. It changed how I fight now. The Germans seem better than some other squads at close combat. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -

More about artillery spotters
Hiram Sedai replied to Levine's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
This is where I like the misidentifying thing that CM does where last night I identified some guy as "crew" when the scenario had no vehicles. I tend to force my people to target single targets because they might be important -->Command/Arty spotters. Although...in reality, (U.S. Army) we would shoot at what we thought we could hit until told to do otherwise. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -
How much do we appreciate BTS?
Hiram Sedai replied to Fox's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I believe this very active forum is a huge plus for the game and for the company. I am impressed by the game's realism and playability. I am very grateful that it is quite stable in my Win98 environment. I won't continue with the lauding though. However, I do want to express my gratitude to the makers of Combat Mission for doing the "right thing" and waiting until it was a good product before shipping it. Kudos to you folks at BTS!! ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -
This caught my eye on the internet and I wanted to share this link with you gentlepeople because these stories touched me. They are first person accounts on WWII from the viewpoint of German Vets. This was the absolute first time I've heard about POW's that were kept in the United States and how they were treated. I was so ignorant of how POW's were treated. Anyway, here is the link: http://www.uwm.edu/~jpipes/start.html Just look under the section for German Vets. PS...I'm an American, so I was raised to only hear about how we were "good" and they were "bad", so this was an eye opening experience. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often

Insert your PBEM horror stories here
Hiram Sedai replied to PeterNZer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I'm playing a QB that my friend made with light armor and some infantry. I have absolutely no artillery. I don't have a clue how to attack him with half tracks and two squads of soldiers. I'll probably talk him into just creating a new QB so we can play with the 1.05 patch. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -
Good for you!! I got smashed last weekend and played a QB (poorly) against the computer. Drinking and Driving tanks is bad. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often

Minor Critical Observation of CM
Hiram Sedai replied to pcelt's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I am reminded of SimCity when reading this thread. Until now, I haven't inspected the buildings for consistency etc. I am somewhat hesitant in editing/creating scenarios, so I'll just keep reading. Don't mind me. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -

That is very fast BTS!!! I am impressed. I'm still playing ver 1.03 because of PBEM but I look forward to playing with ver 1.05 once I get trounced by my opponent. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often

Who wrote this "fuzzy logic?"
Hiram Sedai replied to Dr. Brian's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Regarding the topic of the CM AI, I am interested in learning more. I am intrigued by how the game can get smarter when you give it bonuses right before setup. I seem to lose with or without the computer having a bonus. Hmmm... ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -

Yet another method I discovered: I rename the text file by stripping the .txt off of it. Windows no longer recognizes it as a text file and the email client is forced to attach the file and not imbed it. The email recipient can just rename the file and put the .txt back onto it. This method has worked for me so far. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often

Regarding adding civilians to the game: I've been playing Baldur's Gate and I noticed how my PC slows down when there are so many people moving around. I hope that this game does not get too complicated because I am enjoying the game the way it is now, i.e. me vs the other guy without spies or extra targets that you are not supposed to shoot at. PS..I only play that other game when the neighbors complain about all the tank and artillery fire coming from my living room. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -
I'm glad I got divorced BEFORE I got this game. hmmm... ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often

Combat Mission Primer (Tactics Handbook)
Hiram Sedai replied to WineCape's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Its kind of sad that I've learned more about Infantry tactics by reading this board than by being the U.S. Army for 8 years. Anyway...love the idea of a book that summarizes what is strewn accross many websites. For me, anything that Fionn writes is educating for me (tactics). my two cents...nothing more ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often -
Here is how I take screenshots with my PC - Win 98: 1. Hit Print Screen Button on keyboard 2. Hit Escape to shrink Combat Mission 3. Go into a graphic editing application 4. Hold down Control and V or Edit, Paste 5. Save the file as a JPEG (usually small enough Hope this helps. ------------------ -Work Hard -Type Fast -Save Often
