Hi reinstalled the 30.82 nvidia drivers, got the same error as before but this time it shut down the machine. It did generate a windows severe problem report that stated it was "a driver trying to do a drawing operation" Unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way to save the report as it was sent to Microsoft and disappeared. H e l p!

Hi Okay. Its a custom made using: a motherboard installed in the system is Asus P4B266 SE.It's manufactured by Asustek. The graphic card is made by Gainward using GForce TI 4200 chipset with 128 MB DDR memo. It was assembled in Dubai. I will reinstall the 30.82 Again thanks for the help!

Sorry no I meant 30.82 Its the entire screen with two blue lines where the mouse is. No new computer w/ XP with new video card, there was a VGA.Dll - should I uninstall that (how does one do that?) In reading the posts here it seem XP and Nvidia has problems. I have no problem in replacing the card with one that will work. Is there one noted for working with XP and CM? This computer was purchased for the sole purpose of playing CM so I'm willing to do what ever is necessary......with one day away from the CMBB demo....feel my pain Hey thanks for the help

Based on the dxdiag etc I loaded in the Nvidia - 30.83 drivers - success, I could set the resolution and everything looked fine. If I do a quick battle the computer screen goes white with yellow dots in a wavy pattern after about 20 seconds of setup! Help And thanks for the assistance

You're going to need to provide more information about your computer, such as the video card and driver that is installed. ..AGP Card Gainward GForce Ti4200 128mm DDR ..(that is what was requested but I don't know how to verify that is what was installed) ..XP operating system From the sound of it your video card isn't being recognized by DirectX. This can either mean that you need to reinstall your video drivers or DirectX or possibly both. Unfortunately I don't know of any installers for DirectX under Windows XP (though reinstalling DirectX is rarely an actual necessity). ..Yeah I don't think you can, how can I check on what video card is actually installed? ..Thanks

Thanks That forced it to do that but I get a message when I try and change the resolution: "Could not initialize Direct3d graphics" and the game doesn't start Help again

CMBB: Which Tank entices you the most?
Hans replied to Chad Harrison's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'll want a look at the Italian armour. I also want to see how well hidden AT guns do against advancing armour Sounds like M13 vs some dugin 45cm and anti-tank rifles to me. The T35 and Lend lease Lees -
What draws you to this particular game....
Hans replied to Jack Carr's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I've been playing CM for two years straight, rare is the night where I don't get in a a quick QB or go on line to take on a friend. Simply the best (despite some gaffs) simulation of unit combat. Its not so much what CM now IS (which is great) but what its potential IS I hope in ten years to have a CMBO style BTS simulator that allows me to call up a random game, from a Japanese armour attack in Malaysia, 1942 to a fantasy battle between Rommel's 1942 Panzers and Egyptian 1967 Soviet armour having a meeting engagement over a bridge in European terrain. CMBB: what will be your favourite side?
Hans replied to Schoerner's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The Rumanians & Hungarians of course. I tend to play all sides in CM with a slight tendency to pick the Brits over the Americans and the Germans over the Allies. Anything but those dang Canadians posers. I just want to see if I can stop a T-34 Company supported by a battalion of conscript Infantry from rolling over any Axis allied unit.......... -
The quest for simpler balancing Rules...
Hans replied to Redwolf's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Nice set of rules (but hey Hotchkisses!) There are only two REAL ways to get a balanced game 1. Adjust points until powerful units are very expensive - however getting agreement will be difficult, probably a vote by all existing forum members might give you an idea. In general this will give you at best a balanced game, maybe. 2. When you get to CM V create "sets" of soldiers and equipment that ARE equal, ie non-historic. Sterile and non-historic but the only way to make the battles truly balanced. 3. Yeah I know I said two, the easiest way is to just play the game and not worry about "balance", because you'll never get it. Except by using #2. -
Tactics II (the classic Avalan Hill) game
Hans replied to Hans's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Replies: Got me, I didn't play until 1963, my brother and I keep records, lost track after playing 160 times......and yes we did do one or two nuclear games but one tended to nuke the other guys nukes The disgusting game was Kriegspeil-what a turkey-had nice black counters if I recall.... Yep its a monster-I've only played it once, as the Blues, landed my Airborne, Marines and Mountain "Divsions" (commandos) on the Red Island and went to town - managed to seize it and the port city before exhaustion of both sides left me with a tactical victory. Once CMBB is out I'll do a German vs Russian version (lite) with just 2 tanks per Platoon and one squad lopped off each Infantry Platoon. Hey let me know if anyone ever plays it! -

Memories of your first CM game (VoT/CE/LD/Reis)
Hans replied to CMsoldier's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It was a cold and windy night, a door slammed and a dog howled. My evil brother introduced me to a new game he had 1. I was amazed by the ability of the game to create random terrain! 2. Our first game was a QB of 2000+ points against an Allied AI. We divided the troops in two and moved out. My column moved ahead and took a pounding from 155 which nearly ended the battle as it immobilized a number of my tanks-then that damn plane came in. We shall not speak of what occurred when my infantry tried to move against a certain hill..... 3. I gave away all my Close Combat games, and rarely play anything but CM now, mainly by email and IP....but occasionally a QB of 700 or so points against impossible odds.... it can only get better -

give it a day, then try again -
For lovers of that old game a CM version now exists as an operation located at <A href="http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/"> Uses 1 Platoon for the CM version vs 1 Division in the old game

Hey wait a minute..........I did feel cheated two years ago when I played my first game of CM Shot at a church, nuthin happened Fired again, nuthin happened Where the heck was the defending thunderbolt? Just like these anti-religious game designers to leave God out of the play. And another thing, if I cannot get a thunderbolt how about a few nuns and priests piously running for their lives then? Not only that but the game show a clear indication that Satan is in control of the AI. I once had a M-8 take out 11 of my armour vehicles-if that isn't a plot of Satan I don't know what is! Disheartened
