  1. Excellent, thanks for the article....looks like a scenario opportunity!
  2. Ah X-com, I have to say the time I spent playing that was the most satisfying gaming experience I ever had. It had it all. In CMBB I know how the battle will come out (historically) while with X-com you didn't know anything. The first alien raid on one of my complexs was extraordinary! As was my first attack on one of their bases. Great game, all that followed was ash and trash
  3. Random power ups! In some ways aircraft are like that. I occasionally buy them and I usually buy an AA or two to protect myself from them Very useful or nada. I still like the idea of buying Air target TRP and targeting terrain features, which was done in WW II
  4. What? Best game every made? Yeah been playing a game of it almost everynight for 2 1/2 years I'm addicted, I hate going on vacation because I start to yearn for PBEM and a quickie QB before bed Charles you bastard, you've taken my life away.....sob
  5. Yes I was wondering why you cannot make the map smaller?
  6. Hi Scott Yeah the librarian told me that but I was able to download the individual back issues. Thanks for your help Hans
  7. The M-8 gun howitzer from hell Once upon a time in CMBO. I had a infantry company and assorted infantry support and 1 Gun motor carriage with a 75mm howitzer. It proceeded to demolish an attacking force, final score 11 enemy tanks* and AG and 12 infantry. 1. Never missed a shot, all shots were kills and 10 were explosive. Yep ever time this boy seemed to shoot an AFV brewed up...staggering. I won and oddly didn't suffer a single casualty, a very strange battle *Pz IVs and mighty Stugs
  8. I've noticed that their appears to be minimum size a operational map can be. May I ask the reason for that?
  9. Added note I did do a small scale operation in CMBO which I nicknamed, "death by piecemeal", but I found it was more annoying than interesting!
  10. Small operations? As scotty said, difficult to do. Another consideration is that you cannot reduce the size of the map below 1200 meters (for the one dimension that I recall) this gives you a rather large empty map. I had started planning for a series of operations, one at the platoon level, company level then battalion but ran across to many problems. Operations tend by their nature to LARGE. However I think a medium sized one battle operation is possible, I have one in the planning stage involving an "advance" operation against an anti-tank ditch based defense in Western Ukraine in 1944.
  11. The question would be, would they deploy them individual or as a battery? I would suggest that they would be deployed either way depending on the commanders prerogative. Any world war II Soviet doctrine grogs out there?
  12. Michael thanks, I had found this source. I sent an email to Center for Military history to see if I could get a copy of the maps that don't show up. Firefly do you have a copy of SP3? If you could send me the OOB (actually I have a good one just looking for some more details on the 4th NK division and its regiments, primarily on the number of MG and mortars per unit.) Any way you get me a screen shot of that map also? Thanks Cyrene, I have come across a number of good maps can you give me the date on those battles? There were some good maps at the West Point site. There is also good info on these battles in the Field Artillery Journal, Infantry and Armor magazines (with downloadable back copies) Hans
  13. Two good reviews although one had an odd comment about the follow vehicle command. Glad the game is appreciated!
  14. Hello there redlegs and survivors of Snow hall a poor retired 13a here. Recovering from too much FIST/FSO duty over the years. Thanks for the help
  15. Gyrene, some excellent sources on line also. Found some excellent maps (but not for TF Smith) I know where a map is located in a 1999 Field Artillery Journal. Unfortunately to get it I have to down load 250 of all the FA journals to get it! Some excellent small amd mid sized unit actions in Korea. Thanks for your help You too Davis and the ever slimy Quinxi
  16. any artillerymen out there? I need a map from the Field Artillery Journal "Breech Blocks Painted Red: Task Force Smith in Korea" by LTC® Dwain Scott--Jul-Aug 1999 edition, pages 30-36. Let me know if anyone can help Thanks
  17. As an annoying weapon they are great, especially for buttoning up the enemy. Once the patch comes in they will be useful for dealing with other targets. They are effective against HTs and Italian tanks(sic)
  18. At the start of the Korean War one of the first meetings between US and North Korean forces was a Meeting engagement (or "axis" attack?) by T34/85 against American Infantry supported by 105 howitzers in the ATG mode. Looking for detailed info on this action (map particularly of the area around Suwon) I seem to remember a detail article in one of the military magazines (Field artillery, Infantry or Armor) some years ago
  19. Crewman's brawl I once had an IP fight with my brother (a particularly nasty tactican). It was an ME and we fought to exhaustion for the one VP. Finally no AFVs were functional and all the infantry was dead or routed....time was running out. Independently we both gathered up a force of 8-9 crew sections and rushed for the VP, they all got there about the same time and the fist fight that ensued was a marvel to see and hear! Worse yet he got a tactical victory damn
  20. A panther and sherman meet in a town nose to nose They both fire ....and miss They both fire and ......miss They both fire and score gun damaging hits on the other. Both start backing up, both bog
  21. I've used roadblocks as ditches but it doesn't look very nice. A specific ATD symbol is probably needed to model it correctly. But will run some experiments with trenches tonight
