  1. Hehehe...good un', Kitty! Oh-uh...change your name, quick, I hear M. Bates coming to criticize your exploits of innocent hamsters and harmless Helmets! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  2. Ok, found the link! http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/009067.html Unfortunately, BTS did not reply although many good ideas were offered. It could be they are not sure what to do about this themselves, and when the original thread was posted they paid it no mind since they were still patching CM. Hope they give us some sort of answer now. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 09-30-2000).]
  3. Im guessing BTS will increase reaction time for tanks dramatically. They may also have tanks in "squads" with a leader, kind of like with infantry. There was a topic on this before...forget what BTS replied in the end...lemme do a search and see if I can find it.
  4. I think BTS mentioned many times that they keep their sales figures to themselves. There was an interview with Steve or Charles (I forget, sorry) at one of the online gameing mags. There was a link to it from this board. If you do a search you might find the link.
  5. I dunno, I always though a Daimler AC looking a bit different from a King Tiger, even from a distance (he had an armor force, I had a mech force). Specially considering that my units were behind buildings and in woods while my opponents approaching wave of Panzers was wide in the open. Yet the Fighters never even got near them! I hate air support... ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  6. I've had a game recently when my OWN fighters attacked my own units! I asked my opponent if he had fighters, and he admitted to not having any. Of course, he might have been lieing...he was Germans though, so Im not sure if they even have air support.
  7. Im finding the Tiger and KT pretty damn hard to kill as they are, so to improve on them would truly unbalance the game. Of course, this is IMHO so... ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  8. Sorry to hear Mad Matt. Bates... *sigh* shut up, will you? Post your silly ideas elsewhere...
  9. Well, if you put a mine in any sort of road it would be easily detected and avoided by troops. Unless those troops had me as their Sarge, in which case I'd make my men poke the things with sticks to make sure they weren't oddly shaped turtles. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  10. Peter, Actually, I think you hit the nail straight on the head with that post. I'd like to add some to it if I may. As human beings become more advanced and more - for lack of a better word - "free", they soften and complain more about their hardships in life. Several hundred years ago, no one complained about anything. In England, who fought several wars a century, nobody complained. The casualties were high, people died who had family and children, but they marched on in the face of cannon and musket fire to die for their nation. In Russia, cities were built on the bones of poor farmers who were forced to build them. Nobody started riots. With modern times and the introduction of more "civilized" and "free" governments like Democracy, this slowly changed. WW2 did not see this change yet for the Americans. The Russians did not see this until the late 80's when communism finally collapsed in on itself. Now they are fighting a war in Chechnia - which they are slowly loosing more and more men to due to unadaptive leaders and old fashioned tactics not fit for guerilla warfare - and people are complaining, for the first time since...well...maybe since ever! Vietnamese lost more people then the Americans did in the war. No one started riots to stop the war, yet the Americans, who suffered a measely (in comparison, of course) 55,000 casualties did riot. Why? Democracy and other "free" governments makes people soft. Not saying this is a bad thing. Nobody really enjoys themselves under a dictatorship, but people do come to accept the fact that this is their fate. Or maybe they don't, but are forced to do so anyway. Ok, my rant is over, comments are welcome. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  11. Grrr...I hate Acrobat...either the letters are too big or they are too small. Of course, if everyone printed out these "newspapers" then it makes sence. O well
  12. They realize this, but they also realize that any such addition would look 2D since it would be only a skin. A 2d "bush" on a tank isn't very good to look at, and since they can't do it in 3D, they dont do it at all.
  13. Explosions of vehicles is a random factor. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesnt. However, I have observed that MOST of the time, it is the tanks which explode, not the AFV's. So do the following test: 1) Place a good number of KT's on one side of a medium/small size map. 2) Place twice or even three times that number of Shermans on the other side. 3) Get a suitably large box of Pop corn and press "Go!" ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  14. Creptis, With great regret I inform you that as of today there is no known cure. Be assured however, that scientists are working on it 24-7. As I type this letter, test subjects collected from "The Cesspool" are being put under a variety of painful, grotesque, and embrrasing experiments. With one tested antidote, the patient did lose the will to play CM for a whole 2 minutes and 23 seconds. However, this came to an abrupt end when the patient was accidently exposed to the lab's test hamster. Upon seeing the creature, he collapsed to the floor into a fetal position and urinated on himself, all the while rambling "CM MUST HAVE CM MUST HAVE..." Not to worry, tests will continue. Since the people who habbit the Cesspool are awful scum of humanity, nobody will mind when their gone either. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  15. I am awaiting your file you rat-bag scum-sucking foul-smelling law-suiting snatch-candy-from-a-baby type lawyer! If you STILL can't send the file by mail, get ICQ! Sure, most people won't like you due to your sniuveling nature and grotesque proffesion, but at least we will be able to PBEM up until I get tired of butchering innocent albeit virtual men, and send you a virus to wipe you off the face of the information highway for a good long time! Wait, did I just say that last bit out loud? To quote Silvester the Cat from "Looney Toons", *ahem*, "Shuttering Lawayertrash!" Splinty, sure I'd like a game. Try and send me an e-mail, see if it gets through. It works most of the time, but hotmail is known for it's unreliability... ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  16. Well, keeping in line with the title of this thread, here goes... I never played an Infantry force battle. Not ever. And...I guess what'm trying to say is...I want to try it-but if you don't that's ok! It really is! I'd prefer the points high but I guess I can go with minimum of 1000-unless of course you dont like that in which case im ok - really I am! Urban setting would be nice - that or a village one. If you'd like to boot up a game - and please if im being too forward tell me, ill understand - call me at sword_lover@hotmail.com or ICQ at 26953512 What's that? Im not your type? Oh, well, I was justb kidding-yeah, it was all a joke! I was joking...right...well, ill go now *sniff* ::the last paragraph of this pathetically low self-esteem thread was indeed a joke. The other part is totally real. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  17. Who cares? I say let the simpleton "kEwL dOoDz" have their Quake 3's and Starcrap - err, Starcraft, pardon. Wargamers were never "the masses" unlike strategy and action games, and I don't think we can ever be. After all, it requires a certain amount of patience, intellect, and interest to learn the inns and outs of a game like CM. Why do that when you can grab a Plasma Gun and fry some mutants? ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  18. Grrr...bloody frekin' Hotmail! Well, I emptied all I could. Hope it goes through. I think I need to switch my e-mail host so I can crush you faster you sniveling-slimy-snake-like-villain of a bloodsucker! If it doesn't, try my ICQ # at: 26953512 ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  19. What I meant was that Fionn is an excellent source of info, tactics, and an inside look at the work behind CM and CM2. Surely he is a very useful part of the community. As long as he controls himself when he happens upon a post by a non WW2 history major, he should do just fine. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  20. As long as the cussing stops, I say bring him back! With the great writing he did for his latest AAR, I think he is as deservant as ever. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  21. LOL, "Stalin Sucks", nice name Im sure the millions of people executed by him would agree! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  22. I don't think this game NEEDS a graphic engine overhaul, but to IMPROVE on the engine would be nice! Most of the people on this board are hard-core Grogs. You guys like the graphics since you've been fed "cardboard with counters" games through out your entire wargame experience (which might have been quite a while for some), so you're more the used to it Not saying this is a bad thing. Im just saying that to people who are not as die-hard (ie: me, many others im sure) and HAVE indeed played some of the more graphic-intensive games, the graphics in this game seem a bit low. Then again, once I d/l'ed all the mods kindly provided by God - err, Madmatt that is - I thought the game looked simply amazing. What I hope is that BTS adds better looking terrain graphics, soldier graphics, vehicle graphics, etc. and that the original release of CM2 would look as good as CM1 does with all the mods. Another idea that I think might work out well is if BTS allows the wonderful mod-making community participate in making graphical improvements BEFORE the game hits the shelves. That is, let BTS post up some screenies from CM2 and its various objects, give the BMP files to promising-looking modders, and see what they can come up with! I think this could actually work well, save BTS some time, and overall build up interest for the game. Of course, I would like to emphasize that if it comes to the issue of graphics over gameplay, I would definately, hands down, choose gameplay. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  23. Being the trailer-park living, beer-guzzling hick that I really am, I'm hoping the next CM in line would be "Combat Vision: Beyond Springer" In this fascinating theathre of rehersed hick-bashing freak-loving combat, you get to participate in the many "colorful" Jerry Springer shows! What could be more exciting then throwing a well placed chair at your boyfriend who dumped you for "that bi@tch Rosa". And how about buying off the guard named Steve to look the other way as you flank past the chairs and Blitzkrieg into the latest troupe of transvestite strippers who love each other's cousins but are already married to their sister in law! Complete with realisitc background sounds of hooting and cheering "Jerry-Jerry-Jerry" coming from the drunken audience members. Truly, this is the way to go! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  24. Ah, so we meet again, Shatter! Representitive and personal bodyguard to the CMB here. You sir, are a disgrace to all borg-hunting villains and will thus be not assimilated, but liquidated. So there, Happy now? BTW, send me an e-mail at sword_lover@hotmail.com if you want to try and prove me wrong ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  25. I agree with Deadmarsh. I too, being a former CC player, felt CM3 was sort of unbalanced towards armor. Yes, armor dominated the field and infantry were useless additions, unable to do anything except maybe hold a VL behind friendly lines or something of the sort. I hope that we are not just served "frozen tundra" maps on which tanks dominate the field without question. Anyway, i will love the game either way, so bring it on! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
