  2. Actually Los, this was a night mission. In snow. Visibility - 15-20 metres max. My tank - a Tiger. I did not have much to worry about since the Sherman backed up a good way and it had a 75mm gun. I had killed most of my enemie's troops. No bazookas of any sort. So my move was justified, even if I did not consider the consequences of the "Hunt" command. BTW - The first "scenario" I listed is what I predicted would happen (predicting too late that is). Tailz surprised me however (which was his desired effect) and drove straight past me, which resulted in a very interesting confrontaion. My tiger did not turn the turret fast enough so he did not get any hits, while the Sherman kept popping rounds off my turret. Finally, with his 3rd or 4th shot he damaged the gun, but at this point the Sherman drove next to a "Rough" where a team with 2 panzershrecks was hiding. The team saved my tank from destruction and now it's in the process of useing it's remaining machine guns on what's left of Tail'z force ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 09-19-2000).]
  3. EEk! He came to life! Im sorry I called you and your squad mates morons for not running fast enough, just don't hurt me!
  4. I agree with you Tanaka. This would truly be a cool feature. The question is Is the new engine compatible with older files? If yes, this would be easy to do. If not, I don't think BTS will bother and just do it like everyone else. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  5. I figured you would be lurking here tailz, trying to catch any tidbit of precious information about my armor...you would of destroyed my tank if you hadn't driven into a squad with panzerfausts Anyway, you make several good points Tankersky, I see what you mean. I guess it's somewhat like this IRL so I just have to deal with it. Oh well, I'll try to manuever the tank so he doesn't see the machine gunner next time Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  6. So heres the story - my tank is riding up on a hill set on "Hunt". About 300 metres from it my tanks sees a Sherman, and to it's flank about 200 metres away it notices a machine gun. The Sherman commander soils his trousers, sets a smoke screen and hits reverse. I know a lost opportunity when I see one, and this isn't it. My tank can easily catch up and dispatch this pesky Sherman. So I set the tank to fast move while it nears the smoke screen, and to "hunt" when it crosses it for the Sherman. Everything is going well, although I don't have visibility to the Sherman, it has no where to run. When my tank reaches hunt however, the gunner rotates the cannon and pounds away on the machine gun WHILE passing through the smoke screen. The Sherman uses the opportunity to penetrate my side turret and bye-bye tank. I have seen this happen several times, both with the enemy and with my own tanks. Can something be done so the my tank is told to "keep a lookout for the enemy tank which it can no longer see, and not target measely infantry/mortars/machine guns which can't do it any damage anyway"? That way, the tank will be ready for the enemy and will not be distracted. Just a suggestion. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  7. Actually, I can back up ianc's clame. Same thing happened to me in a PBEM. Same tank model too, actually! I also sent the little bugger on hunt to look for a Sherman on a hill. He saw the Sherman but simply rolled on his way and into a ditch where he lost contact. It was a Veteran tank BTW.
  8. Thank you marcusm and Gregory, the links come much appreciated Cheers!
  9. Im betting he may have had his "wisdom teeth" removed. I had that done a few months back. They put me to sleep thankfully, but the two bloody gaps bled for a a few weeks. Wasn't enjoyable in the least, I can tell you. Of course, how that can affect his personal life is beyond me... ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  10. Is there any site that offers these MP3'S for download?
  11. Wow, thanks for all the diverse answers, fellows! I don't know which (if any ) of them is the correct one, but I was especially interested by pzvg's anwer. Germans with faceplates - I don't know about you guys, but I would of totally been freaked out by seeing a giant uniformed SS soldier charging at me wearing a faceplate. Something about face plates gives a more "inhuman" appearence. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  12. Yes, those stubs. It's just the word "horns" popped into my head when I was looking at them. Anyway, if it's to hold liner in place, cool. Thanks for the answers!
  13. I was looking through a pile of history books, and I noticed that some German helmets had two small "horns" on each side of the helmet. I was just wondering what these were for. Thanks in advance! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  14. In fact, I think point 3 with multiplayer capabilities would work superbly well with CM2. Playing as the Russians, you would have to deal with many inexperienced or just plain stupid field commanders. What better way to represent this then playing a PBEM game with several inexperienced or just plain stupid people responcible for 1/3rd of your total forces?
  15. I like the all of the points made, but of course, there are problems with point 2 and 3. Basically, time limitation and computer limitation. Did you notice how in some large battles it sometimes takes over 2 minutes for the computer to calculate a turn's movements? Imagine how bad it would be with 3 other computers planning away at the same time? You would consider yourself lucky if your machine didn't crash! I like point 3 a lot, but I also think it would be better used with multiplayer. I'd LOVE to get a 6 player+ game going, and having to argue with my sub-commanders what's the best way to take out the enemy
  16. Well, Mr. Sata - erm, Lawyer, I would enjoy a little PBEM. Why you ask? I could always use another ass kicking. If I attempt and fail miserably at getting prizes in the process, all the better! Err, wait, no it's not. Oh well. Anywho, if you would accept the challenge my unique "die die and die some more" playing style offers, I would steal from you your "Mig Alley" game. Yes, Mig Alley. Not much of a sim buff but I did hear good stuff about it in game reviews. Hopes to hear from you through the use of this here thread or maybe even through e-mail at sword_lover@hotmail.com ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  17. Wow, I was wondering where CM got them names... I think my name would do well in CM 2, personally. "Khrapovitski" Is there a more confusing Russian name you could find? Yub. Didn't think so. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  18. I've seen the impressive looking soldier faces made recently, and decided to give it a go myself. Does anyone know the # of the files containing the face graphics?
  19. Ok Bates, I give in. I'll admit it - I don't have a freakin' clue what your name might mean. Im guessing it's pornographic? Come on pal, drop me a hint here for the slow paced! Your sig I don't understand either...yub, I'm stoooopid. [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 09-09-2000).]
  20. ME!!! Oh yeah, and ski troops. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  21. I think tank ramming should be added for CM2 if not for the European conflicts. Why did this happen on the Eastern Front and not the West? Well, because as any student of the front would know, Soviet Russians were extremely fanatical about defending "the motherland". In fact, here is a link on the subject:1941 http://rkka.h1.ru/ramming.htm Some may quickly call out that the recorded numbers of ramming through all the years of the war were only a little over a hundred, but then again, they don't have records of how many soldiers were killed setting off mines or during wave assaults. The crew had to report back to make the ramming official, and wreckege that was not captured by the Soviets and thus identified would be seperated and sent back for scrap metal or repair by the Germans. Thus, we can assume that rammings were a fanatical and often suicidal move on the part of mostly Soviet tankers, who didn't have much in the way of repair of tanks anyway. Read the article, see if it changes your mined. If not, that's alright. Everyone's entitled to their own personal oppinion and should not resort to obsceneties when presented with an opinion which contradicts one's own. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  22. Wow, thanks for all the great answers guys! Actually, I did try using the search at first - I always do at first before giving up and asking - but I got a bunch of useless crap as answers. Even stuff about hamsters if you can believe it Anyway, I'll try your suggestions out. I actually bought a KT on my first PBEM, and had pretty bad luck with it. We did a village map with moderate hill coverage, and I never had good lines of fire. So the first chance I could use my KT was about 300 metres away from the enemy Sherman 75. The bastard got superbly lucky and managed to damage my gun! I've been warry of the KT ever since - I think Chupaca is right - putting all your eggs in one basket is dangerous business. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  23. Heya guys, In a vain attempt to improve my "tank-fighting skillz", I decided to ask you hard core gorgs which armor selections you make during PBEM's. Im assuming this is a random map where you can have a choice, of course. What do you do when you have limited resources? What do you pick when you have abundant points to spend on armor? Do you like any combinations of armor, or any particular tank/assult gun/whatever that you use often and think it's worth it's value? Im only asking since unlike most of you, I really haven't played much of other wargames, so thus I am not as used to all the tanks and how they perform against each other. The only way is to find out thorugh trial and error, which I am currently doing (mostly the error bit though ), but I thought asking around would help too! Thanks in advance for sharing your preferences! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 09-07-2000).]
  24. I'm a long time fan of both PC Gamer and Wild Bill Wilder's excellent scenarios. Congrats, man, you made it into one of the best - no, the best - PC magazines in the world!
