Do that. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 2. Eastern Mass. types are all snobs anyway, do 'em some good to have Kennedys drive cars off their bridges! ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 3. Or is it where Teddy Kennedy drove his car off that bridge? I know it has something to do with the Kennedys... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

 5. Incidentally, here's something to consider if you're absolutely insane, feel a burning need to get blazingly good audio on a mac, and have a bunch of money blazing a hole in your pocket. Whether this will actually work with CM, I have no idea, but in my experience it has made a noticable improvement in the sound quality of other games. Before I traded in my Mac 7600 (16 mb ram, anyone? 1.1 gig HD?) for a PC laptop, I was running a semi-professional digital audio/midi sequencer suite called Digital Performer. To make this work, you needed a professional-quality soundcard with at least a 24-channel out. I ran this through a midi interface to a mixing board, and into a pair of powered speakers. There are very few games that are designed to offer up to 24 channels of audio, but good god, the sound was phenomenal. Bear in mind that all this (soundcard, mixer, powered speakers) will set you back quite a ways unless you can get it used. But like I said, if you're absolutely insane... Oh, another nice feature was being able to tweak relative volumes directly on the mixer. Think something should be louder, and have more bass? Couldn't be simpler. I'd also note that the opening music from Civ 2 sounded unbelievable freaky pitch shifted down an octave, run through an analog synthesizer, phase delayed, and looped. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Morons, both of you. What about the five-gallon water supply you have to carry in each hand? Can you run with that? (For testing reasons true Germans can substitut this by a standard 24-bottle beer carrier of German standard type)

While you're on the subject, I'm amazed that BTS didn't model the PilSW 243/1 gepanzerte Bierfoerdermaschine. I thought this one would be a given... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 7. Just sent something, and it appeared to go through, but please let me know if you get it.
 8. I've written up a couple of faq-related answers, but I'm having trouble sending you email. Is there a problem on your end? I'll keep trying to resend.
 9. One thing to perhaps point out is that CM2's graphics will be better than those of CM1. It's up to BTS to decide how much better they should be. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Samhain: Anyway, most games are scalable (resolution, texture depth, detail settings, lighting, etc.). The same could be implemented for CM2. That would let people with high-end systems benefit while not shutting out those with low-end rigs.

The trouble with scalable graphics is that it's occasionally possible to miss crucial details with the graphics scaled down. I remember this one incredibly frustrating moment in...Unreal? anyway, some FPS game, where a reflective floor was supposed to reflect a button you were supposed to shoot. Problems came if you turned off reflectivity... This was more of a generic gripe than anything directed at BTS, since I somehow doubt we're going to have to solve red key, blue key puzzles in CM2 ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 11. I don't think the question is going to be graphics vs. historical accuracy. It seems to me that Steve and Charles would have to be smoking an awful lot of crack to say "hey, let's get rid of all these books and program some kewl hovertanks!" And I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. I think the question is between graphics and compatibility with older systems. Like it or not, there are a lot of wargamers who have systems that aren't what anyone would call cutting edge. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Croda: IBrokeMyLaptopSoICouldFigureOutHowToBeatCroda: These next few turns will decide if I get back in the fight or not. I hope your break was nice, it's going to get ugly from here on in.

Bye, bye, Sherman 75. Boy, those things do burn right pretty. You're gonna take a beating, son. Oh, and I don't usually comment on other people's games (mostly because I hate you all, and I don't give a damn whether you live or die), but I just couldn't help it:
quote:
you knocked out my ill-advanced scout Stug.

Boy, better hope he doesn't get your assault Lynxes. That is all. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. [This message has been edited by Chupacabra (edited 10-30-2000).]
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: I once ran 20 yards with a water pistol... 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Splinty: I'd still play the game if it used pictures of tabletop counters.

Hey, that sounds like Lewis' game ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Warmonger: Write the program for a 64 meg video card, don't worry people will buy one ! Push the graphics to the limit. Interested to hear whether the group agrees or disagrees with these points.

Disagree. Wanna buy me a new desktop so I can actually use a 64mb video card? Alternatively, wanna design a laptop with AGP slots? As for CMs graphics being behind those of other 3d games. How many polygons do you think, say, Q3 has to draw, on average? Now, take a battallion-sized battle. How many polygons do you think that is? Betcha anything it's more than Q3 has to deal with. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 16. Samhain - you may want to be careful with Rune, the reviews I've read of it were pretty negative. There was one at gamespot.com and another at.... hrm, damn, I'll try to remember. This is probably one of those "make sure the software store has a liberal return policy" type games ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 17. Awright you punters! Thanks to the good people at Dell UK, LTD, I'm back in business. Those to whom I owe files will be getting them shortly. Please feel free to start worrying your rosary beads and notifying your next of kin. Update - I've sent files to Moriarty, Croda, Peter, Shandorf, DrA, JDMorse, Hakko, Seanachai, and Germanboy (whew). Do I owe anyone else a file? If so, pipe up! My slugfest with Dr Alimanchego has ended in a draw. Many brave gerbils lie still amongst the snow drifts, and the survivors hunker down for the rest of the night amongst the burning buildings and patches of wood. God, that was bloody. God, that was bloody beautiful. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. 18. BruceR - My point of view has nothing to do with relativism, positivism, Zoroastrianism or just about any other 'ism' you'd care to name. My point of view comes from a desire to not see an incredibly complex subject turned into an accountant's spreadsheet. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 19. IMO the game mechanics can only be learned by trial and experience. Keep at it, CM's one of those deceptively simple games that are easy to become proficient at, but are impossible to become perfect at. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 20. To be honest, I have very little faith in "acknowledged experts," especially when they fly in the face of common sense. Many historians become well-known neither for the quality of their research or for the strength of their argument, but because they are louder and more controversial than the norm. Especially in a field which is so controversial and heavily contested as World War II is, (although I've seen historians get into shouting matches about much more mundane subjects, and it's not pretty) I find it very hard to accept one man's research on faith. Again, I have not read Dupuy (although I may do so now), so I cannot accurately comment except on what I've gathered here, but I think it is absolutely impossible to quantify immaterial concepts like 'effectiveness' or 'will to fight.' ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 21. Er, you may want to find out who's she's buying that Victoria's Secret merchandise for. Nah, never mind, just play another QB instead. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 22. Wow, I'm amazed he lived as long as he did. I always reckoned that he'd died in Dachau. Thanks for the information, I certainly don't think it's a waste of time. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 23. Well, okay, but it was against Peng after all... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 24. Volksturm squads only have seven men as well. But that of course begs the question - has anyone ever in the history of wargaming voluntarily chosen Volksturm units? If so, to which mental institution is their mail to be addressed? ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
 25. Who isn't good enough for who now? Still no laptop, Squirmy, but I can still receive emails, yes? Don't worry, as soon as the friendly geek comes and fixes my machine, you'll get your Son of Sam, or whatever godforsaken gamey map you've chosen. Or you could send it here, and I could taunt you via email. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
