2. Heh, even funnier: in my college German classes, there were always a few people who'd try to get away with having babel fish write their papers. Do you have any idea what babel fish can do to a paper about Dadaism, or the atomization of society during the Third Reich? ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
3.
quote:
Originally posted by Bruno Weiss: In the thread citation above, I read where Allied Bazooka's do not suffer this problem.

Bazookas can light buildings with their backblast. I can testify to that through firsthand (in the game) knowledge. PIATs and rifle grenades do not have a backblast, however.
4. Polish time starts faster, but slows down after noon. EST gets morning and evening penalties, but is better during the afternoon and night. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
5. Germanboy is about as English as Falco. He can speak the language, but there's something lost in the translation. I'm afraid you'll have to claim him for a while yet. And by the way, Squirmy, you know how you talked about me hemhoraging tanks? Maybe you don't know how many tanks I've got, eh? ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. 6. You are clearly all a bunch of temporal relativists. I have a source here which states that GMT is 1.3 times more accurate than EST. Moreover, I note that CM does not attempt to model this at all. Please patch this immediately. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
7. How are we defining scouts, btw? Are they anything that ranges ahead of your main body, or are we just referring to long-range stuff? What I call my 'scouts' are a half-squad which I typically keep moving about 25-50 meters in front of a moving platoon. In a rifle platoon, I'll split one squad, have the rest of the platoon put area fire into whereever I'm sending the half-squad, and run the half-squad in. Works for me. Guess you could call it a pointman, if that works better... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

10. Uh, no offense, but it's not a critical game issue. It certainly sounds annoying, and may be a bug, but considering that this is the first time I've heard anything of the sort in the several months since CM was released, I don't think it's going to be a huge game-killer. Send the files to BTS, if it's a bug, they'll fix it. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
11. Bazookas, Panzerschrecks, and Panzerfausts all have a backblast which can do damage. PIATs and rifle grenades do not. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
12. CC3 had these as well, IIRC. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
13. KTs are great...if you don't need to move them a whole lot. Panthers strike a damn good balance between AT/AP capability, armor, and speed. If I had a choice between 5 Panthers and 5 KTs, I'd take the Panthers. In most situations in the game, I'd probably take Mark IVs over Panthers, but that's neither here nor there... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
14. Panther. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
15.
quote:
Originally posted by wwb_99: As for Dells: they suck. Like most of the 'name brand' PCs on the market. Is Maw and Paw Kumpyooters gonna come out and stick a new motherboard in my laptop the next business day if I need them to? Dell does. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
16. Also, why would HE rounds be less accurate than AP? Unless I'm missing something, accuracy should be a factor of the gun and the crew, not shell type. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
17. Wow, whatever HE shells you're shooting, give me some. I find MG fire to be much more effective against infantry in the open, especially if they're moving at all. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
18. WWB - I think I'd be safe in betting that a plurality, if not the majority, of Macs are used by professional or semi-professional graphic or audio designers. As someone who has poured quite a bit of time (and more than a little money) into audio apps and accesories over the years, I can tell you that the software and hardware support for these kinds of programs are years better for the Mac than for the PC, not to mention cheaper. And the underlying Mac architecture is simply better for these kinds of applications. If all you're using a computer for is word processing, games, and the internet, I agree that a PC is an eminently sensible choice. However, there are fields in which Macs are the standard, and likely to remain that way for a while. And it's these fields in which the Mac really shines. Snapdragon's points about upgradability are also well-put. I upgraded my Mac 7600 (16 mb ram, can't remember the processor speed offhand) to a G3 with 64 megs of ram. Doing so was as easy as upgrading a PC, and equally inexpensive. There is a fair difference in cost between Mac and PC laptops, however. Which is why I'm using a Dell Inspiron now instead of buying a spiffy new G3 Powerbook. Unfortunately. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
19. My two scout pence: In contrast with Pillar, I use scouts fairly close to my main body, and I use high-quality troops. Why? Because for me, scouts which range far ahead out of support and get cut up are absolutely useless. By the time you either bring force to bear against whatever killed your scouts OR maneuver your force to avoid whatever killed your scouts, your opponent can easily move his men as well, and you've just wasted a couple of squads for bad intelligence. On the other hand, if you use good quality scouts, well-supported, you'll tie up your enemy long enough that A) if you've hit a weak spot in his lines, you can force a breakthrough or if the position is too strong to take, you can dump some arty on it and flank it with the body of your force. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
20. The problem I have with this type of random function is that it's just that - random. Since the CM engine would have no way of looking at a particular mod set and deciding whether it was consistent thematically and stylistically with whatever other mods you've got loaded, it might decide to give you, say, some pretty Southern French- looking houses with gloomy Norman terrain, and have your American Shermans driving around with Canadian markings. I bring this up because I've also been thinking about this issue a lot, and I'd love to see a practical way to do it, but since software can't make value judgements, I'm worried that what you'd get would be an utter mishmash of inconsistent mods. If someone can tell me otherwise, I'd be a happy man, believe me. Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty much a mod junkie myself... ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
21. One of the (sadly) underreported areas of German history is the resistance to Nazism both before and after 1933. Hitler's first move once in power was to put his political enemies into concentration camps, including many SPD and KPD party members and organizers who had resisted Nazism, often with force. Hitler survived several assassination attempts throughout the Nazi period, the most famous being the Generals' plot. There were several protests, demonstrations, and literature campaigns during the war, the majority of which were put down brutally by the Nazis. If anyone's interested in reading more about the resistance to Nazism before and during 1933, I'd recommend a book called The Nazi Seizure of Power: The Experience of a Single German Town, 1922-1945 by William Sheridan Allen. You'd probably have to order it through Amazon, but it's an excellent book, and reads well. I can't remember the titles of any books that I'd recommend on resistance in the post-1933 period, but if I think of any I'll post them. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
