1. Paez - remember that infantry graphics are abstracted. Your infantry squad isn't really kneeling upright waiting to get shot. Some of the guys are probably kneeling, some of the guys are probably standing behind trees or lying down behind rocks. Since FP and cover are abstracted as well, it doesn't really matter what the graphic shows your guys doing, what matters is what sort of cover they're in and what's being shot at them. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
2. To my PBEM bitc...er...opponents The motherboard on my laptop has gone to the Great Taiwanese Assembly Facility In The Sky. Dell's sending out an engineer on Monday, so I won't be able to get turns out until then at the earliest. Of course, I have my suspects as to who sabotaged my poor computer. Naturally it must be one of you poor wretches who are currently learning the meaning of pain from yours truly. Could it be...MORIARTY??!?!?? trying to conceal his horrendous ass-slide straight into Loserville??!??! No...too obvious. Or is it... Dr. AchyBreakyHeart!!!?!?!?? the bloody Communist Luddite wrecker? No, he's too subtle to do the dirty work himself. It must be.... SCROTA!!!! Good God, man! It's not my fault you left your infantry in the buildings which my StuH was merrily blowing to pieces!!! It's not my fault you left your Sherman co-located with said buildings!!! It's not my fault you parked your howitzer carriage smack on top of a hill for my Panther to pick off!!! But no, I should have expected it from you. Take some responsibility for your own actions, man, stop blaming the world for your stupidity!!! Bah, you best've wiped the hard drive too, else you're gonna get a hassle-of-dealing-with-tech-support-sized heap of smackdown come next week!!! ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
3. My point is, infantry is just as good at molesting tanks as tanks are at molesting infantry. Ya just gotta be sneaky... Seriously though, infantry is much more useful than for just sitting on VLs. For one thing, one good artillery barrage will sweep your infantry right off of those VLs. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
4.
quote:
Originally posted by M. Bates: The anti-tank capabilities of infantry in CM are limited in that the terrain is not varied enough for infantry to get close to tanks regularly.

Er, look more carefully at the terrain. I do roughly 50% of my tank-killing with infantry. Against the AI, on QB maps with at least light hills and light tree coverage, I can almost always manage to set up a zook shot or a close assault. It's trickier against human players since they anticipate that kind of thing, but it's by no means impossible. Use view 1, it's the only way to see some of the little hummocks and depressions which can hide infantry from a tank. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
5. The Economist gave a good review to a new Korean War book, if anyone's interested. 13. Read the EULA, there should be a bit in there about making copies for personal use. Some game companies do allow you to burn copies for personal use, some don't. In this case, I wouldn't know, since I never read EULAs anyway ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

17. Ditditwhatever... Minor Update... I am pleased to report that I still have yet to suffer a casualty in my game with Boreiarty. I have in turn caused to become very dead: one M8 Howitzer carriage 1 Sherman 75 1 Sherman 105 1 recoilless rifle 1 .30 mg several trucks at least a platoon and a half of veteran infantry. Probably closer to two platoons. A further platoon of his infantry looks to be feebly attempting to hold on to a rather exposed VL. Direct fire from my Panzers should end that situation quickly. It's a good thing I told my men to polish their kevlar and clean their railguns. Rest assured, I will continue to update when more Snoreiarty-stomping information becomes available. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

22. One of the arguments I've heard is that no one in the near future is going to be stupid enough to engage the US in a major war. The last folks that tried gave rise to CNN smartbomb footage and the Highway of Death. And that most of the conflicts the US gets involved in will be small, nontraditional, with limited goals. This seems pretty plausible. For one, I think it highly unlikely that China's going to do anything to jeopardize that Most Favored trading status anytime soon. China needs to be tied into the world economy, since economic power seems to be what keeps the government from collapsing. It sure as hell isn't the warm and fuzzy social conditions that keep the Chinese from getting rid of the Communists. RE: your question about the really non-traditional stuff, like computer viruses. My father's work brings him in contact with a lot of retired generals, and recently with Carl Stiner, who was IIRC head of Special Forces until recently. My father brought this question up, and he got a "we've thought a lot about it, and we're working hard on it, but I can't tell you what we're doing" answer. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
23. Hiram!!! What in the firey pits of Lucifer's dominion do you think you're doing???!!! Are you apologizing????!?!?!?!?!??*(%U$Y*Y(%*&&RH(? That better not have been what it looked like. 24. Meeks - your *snicker* force selection is winging its electronic way to your mailbox. Now you'll get to see how many Hotchkisses and conscript Volkssturm batallions 5000 pts buys. Scrota - Do I have to start whiiiiiining for you to send me files? It would be a shame if I had to start whiiiiiiining, but if you don't send me any files I'm just going to whiiiiiine and whiiiiiine and whiiiiiiiine. And then I'll cut out your anal sphincter and feed it to you. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
