  1. Hi all...Happy New Year Below is a link that should bring you to my site with pix of my near finished winterworn Tiger I for CMBO. web page It will have full CMMOS support allowing you to chose between Mid or Late Tiger variants , zimmerit or plain , rear tac numbers etc. Once i have all the stuff i need i will see about doing similar for CMBB. regards Måkjager [ January 23, 2003, 08:20 PM: Message edited by: Måkjager ]
  2. Michael...would it have anything to do with the forerunner of the 24th Pz Div being a Cav unit.....and the golden yellow being the colour for the Cav branch of service???? Regards Måkjager
  3. Just finished my second helping of Hornets Nest as the Reds. Tracer...it is possible to win a Total Victory as i have just found out Men ok Axis 5 Allied 417 Total Casualties Axis 191 Allied 31 KIA Axis 54 Allied 9 Captured Axis 55 Allied 0 Hardware destroyed Axis - 2 guns , 1 pillbox , 2 mortars , 6 Nashorn Allied - 1 KV 1 , 2 T-70 , 3 T-34. Just stick at it tracer......ye will soon figure it out best Måkjager
  4. First play...result Major Victory for my Reds 77 -23 split...it would have been more only i lost some T-34s ( 3 tanks ) towards the end. Men ok Allied = 416 Men ok Axis = 3 Total casualties Allied 32 Axis 196 KIA Allied 7 Axis 40 Captured Allied 0 Axis 52 Destroyed Allies lost 11 vehicles Axis lost 2 mortars , 1 Pillbox , 2 guns and 6 Nashorn. All victory locations taken. I think i olny used about a Plt of Infantry as this was a Armoured Juggernaut smashing into the Axis line. I was able to make the Axis ridgeline by about turn 10 or there abouts. Once i had gotten the 1st Nashorn Plt i set about the Infantry and then went looking for the other reinforcing Nashorn. Found this side ( Allied) to be easier to play. I will try again after me Christmas dinner best regards Måkjager. ps..the AAR file is saved if anybody wants to have a looksee.
  5. mumbles to himself."Must try this as a Russki". Aye..when i get the time i will give it a shot. As Jeff said.it was with GRIM DETERMINATION ..i in fact played it about 15 times or there abouts to get a Total Victory..and it was bloody hard too. I even ended up doing 88mm test firings ( near 5000 rds fired ) because i was getting the impression that the Nashorn was not accurate at all. Tests proved me wrong. As for Shoot and Scoot....i tried that numerous times along the ride line and got shot to hell and back. In the end i resorted to a "gamey" tactic or two.....i attacked and used the terrain to my best advantage. Regards Måkjager [ December 24, 2002, 02:37 PM: Message edited by: Måkjager ]
  6. Mike...just sent u a AAR file of that map with a 83/17 Total Victory for the Axis. Aye..the Nashorn are delicate and it requires a lot of care and attention. Hopefully the map will help explain things better best regards Måkjager
  7. Where any of these squads up on a small hill by any chance? I have a squad which has just thrown one of them sky hi bottles and was wondering if it was due to them being on a small hill. The Molotov landed about a 100m away too..must have been a bad bottle of Vodka best Måkjager
  8. Both on my HDs....and will remain forever so. Play wise... playing CMBB. MOD making wise...CMBO... not finished there just yet....as i wipe the dirt and grime of my mush from a very recent trip to the Bowels of the ModMines best Måkjager
  9. Terrapin..correct The Nahverteidigungswaffe ( Close Quarters Defence Weapon ) is the device i was describing. It allows the crew to fire those 26mm HE grenades that explode in the air. Regards Måkjager
  10. Being a sometimes Groggy Nosey Parker i donned my Sherlock Holmes deer stalker hat and began to rummage through my books for info ( besides this question has bugged me in the past ) Just so as to make sure there is no misunderstanding i also dug out info on the “smoke projectors” also sometimes used by the Germans on their tanks and armoured cars. Right..first up is the “smoke candle projectors” that appeared on the early Tiger I , early Panther D , Pz IIIs / IVs(?) , Stugs , Puma AC , and others. These usually appeared in the form of 2 triple 90 mm projectors mounted either side of the turrets , or the forward upper fighting compartment in the case of the Stugs. The 90 mm Schnellenbelkerze 39 (NbSK 39 ) were electrically fired from within the vehicle. Once fired they would quickly cover an area in protective smoke , allowing vehicles to withdraw from enemy fire. The candles had a once off use.....requiring reloading by a crew member if brave enough in the middle of a fire fight. Specifications. Calibre 90 mm Shell length 145 mm Total weight 2 kg Smoke compound 1.8kg Smoke compound - Technical benzene hexachloride mixed with powdered zinc. Smoke emission time - 100-200 seconds ( no wind ??? ) Ignition - N4 detonator with fuze igniter 29 or 39 Propulsion charge - NdK Wlg 1 These smoke candle projectors were discontinued from the early Tiger Is after turret s/n 286 due to several reports that some crew members had died from suffocation. The Tiger I - Mid series - early model carried five S-Mine throwers located around its four hull superstructure corners and in the mid section of the left hull..... the opposite side which contained the radio aerial mount. These S-Mine launchers each fired a single dreaded Springmine 35 anti personnel mine which was 100 mm wide x 150 mm long. Better known to the Allies as the “Bouncing Betty” these lethal AP mines would literally “jump” up from the earth when triggered by a soldier to a height of 3 feet and spray the area with 360 ball bearings. When used as conventional AP mines these S-Mines had a lethal range of 25-30m. When used on the Tiger I the S-Mines had a higher detonation height due to being mounted on the near 6 ft height hull....leading to horrendous injuries and deaths to any foolhardy or brave enemy tank hunter teams in the area. Likewise these were electrically triggered from within the vehicle. Now to that Nahverteidigungswaffe ( Close Quarters Defence Weapon ) which has bugged me these past few days. This system was to provide the crew with the ability to fire smoke , signal and defensive ordnance. The first mention of such i weapon that i can find is in Speilbergers Tiger and Kingtiger tanks book. A letter dated 11th June 1943 from a turbine manufacture called Unna/Westphalen in which a diagram for a traversable under armour smoke projector is submitted for consideration. An investigation was to be carried out to see if it could be fitted to the Tiger I..but it was to be standard equipment for the Kingtiger. The actual “launcher” was a short tube mounted within the turret of tanks and jagdpanzers etc. The unit could rotate 360 degrees , the launcher being set back at a 50 degree angle. The launcher itself has been described as being like a oversized flare gun. Now comes to the bit that until now had confused me. The launcher could fire the NbSK 39 smoke candle ( 90 mm) , an unspecified type of mortar grenade , the Rauchsichtzeichen orange 350 - Airforce ID signal , Leuchtgeschoos R parachute illumination shell and a 26 mm HE grenade!!!!! That is the bit that got me going round the twist....as most of my info states that the device fired a 26 mm shell..yet looking at pictures and scale plans i could clearly see that the opening was much bigger than 26 mm and i could not for the life of me figure out why there was such a big difference...that is until i read the Tankpower Panther Vol. #4. Seemingly the calibre of the device is 90mm......that allows it to fire the Nb SK39 smoke round. The 26 mm HE rounds are fired through the open breech of the Nahverteidigungswaffe via a standard 26 mm flare gun!!!! All became clear in an instant...( well after some frantic Brain Cell chasing ) The 2.6cm Sprenggranatpatrone mit Zeitzünder ( 26 mm HE grenade with time fuze ) was fired by the flare gun through the locked open firing block of the projector. The 26 mm HE grenade had a range of 10m when fired at the 50 degree angle , exploding after a flight time of 1 second......it burst anywhere between .5m to 2m in height. The fragments could cause injury up to 100m. As to ammunition load outs.......the Jagdpanzer IVs seemed to have carried about 16 rounds of 26 mm ammunition. As to the load out..i don't have that info. For the late Panther As and Gs.....a total of 56 rounds of 26 mm ordnance seems to have been standard broken down as follows. 26 mm Smoke - 12 rounds 26 mm HE - 20 rounds 26 mm Smoke markers/ flares -24 rounds For the Tiger I ( late ) and the Kingtiger.......in the Speilberger book it says 3 HE rounds. i am not sure if he is referring to the 26 mm rounds of the “unknown” HE round listed above. I would imagine that the Tigers would carry a similar load to the Panther though in regards to the 26 mm rounds. These Nahverteidigungswaffe were in short supply...the Tiger I did not start to be fitted with it until March 1944 - same with the late Panther A . The Stugs had serious shortfalls up till October 1944..with many vehicles not being fitted with them. Regards Måkjager

  12. Jeez...bloody typical...just as u were about to get the hang of this Modding lark ye slip off into the sunset with eyes only for sandy white beaches and coffee coloured peaches Gordon..you have given an immense amount of effort in supporting Mod Making and i hope that you have fun now and enjoy life without the strains of working under Mod-Slut-itis and a dodgy wrist As for the why now...blame me...i Challenged him to a PBEM and it has all gone downhill since then ( actually Gordon has been thinking about this for months ) Best regards to an outstanding fellow Måkjager ps Gordon.....u know me and my devious mind......soi leave u with those immortal words of Baldrick....."Master..i have a CUNNING plan" Moooooooo [ November 20, 2002, 01:30 PM: Message edited by: Måkjager ]
  13. Tracer.....the (3) different numbers on the rear turret bin is possible if you are going to have all the Tiger I s from early 1944 onwards..otherwise you wil not be able to buy a late Tiger I in 1942 as it was not made yet..same for the mid production Tiger I. There is a work around though if u can live with it. Thanks to Dan the Tiger turret is made up of 2 sections..the side and the rear. The rear part contains both the turret bin...and the left AND right side of the turret. It should be possible to have complete numbers without suffering the mirror effect if u can live with the 'artistic" placement of these numbers over the escape hatch and the other port on the early Tiger turret. If u look closely at the turret ..you will see where the wrap around of the rear meets/joins with the side bmp. There was one unit of Tigers ..the sPzAbt 510 who placed their numbers in these locations. This was a late war unit and AFAIK used only late production Tiger Is and some Tiger II. Hope this is of some help. best Måkjager [ November 09, 2002, 09:17 PM: Message edited by: Måkjager ]
  14. Lack of "original" new afv MODs may be due to the current work load the lads have..ie...still working on stuff for BFC. Question...would your puter be able to handle a 7MB Tiger Mod??? That what the original Tiger mod i made for CMBO weighed in at before i reduced the dimensions and res. As for improving the look...with the wide range of talent and personal tastes( Mod Makers ) it will be possible to make CMBBB look different to the stock textures. Kwazy was the final QC on the finished articles( AFAIK ) and aimed for a complementing overall look which is a good thing when u are trying to sell a product. regards Måkjager
  15. In respect to what the Beta testers were doing..this beta tester spent a 60+ hr working week generating firing data for the Tiger I and JS 1 each, way back when in the time the Beta testers were taken onboard. I think i qualified for a BFC Gunners badge after firing off near 5000 rds of ammo , not to mention CAS tests , Nebelwerfer tests , in game bugs , making textures , writing up research material and other "Black Arts" stuff......and still try to do my "real life" job..and THEN find time for family and friends...and i am still testing stuff right now. All these tests were done to the best of my ability.....setting up "test maps" and then recording the data from what i observed. This game has a huge number of units..each of which would require an army of testers to test each and every one against one another in all situations and would take God knows how long to complete..and then its into the lap of Charles with all this data. Issues that currently cause headaches are due for fix'n with the engine rewrite within the time constraints that BFC will operate under. Regards a worn out Måk
  16. I seen the PC/CDV version of CMBB on sale in two shops here in Dublin today...going for 49.99 Euro Regards Måkjager
  17. I had orrible display problems with the nVidia GF3 card with its 64MB of VRAM thatc ame with my Dual 800 G4. The tops of vehicle hulls were all blurry..and not to my liking. I was lucky enough to finally get my hands on my original intended video card..the ATI Radeon 32MB OEM from OWC. Since swapping out the GF card and replacing it with the Radeon , the visual quality is what it should have been.I have nice and crisp visuals..which come into their own when making mods. drivers.....enough to drive u MAD  regards Måkjager [ October 22, 2002, 01:39 PM: Message edited by: Måkjager ]
  18. Joe..as for my Tiger mod(s) from CMBO crossing over to CMBB...it is going to take me some time to get around to it....busy with some lil' guys right now. and i want to finish off my winterworn Tiger before turning to the ones for CMBB. More CMBB 3d detailed vehicles means more work...slower output...from me anyway. Regards Måkjager
  19. Took me 15 attempts to get a Major Victory....had to come up with a cunning plan..and it worked against the AI. LOVE the scenario ...HATE the designer ( joke btw..the hate bit ) Regards Måkjager
  20. Actually Joe..there is a fair amount of work involved in the lil' guys too I think its great the amount of effort and detail Dan nad BFC has put into the models. Dan is to be applauded for his work.....after all making models for 300 odd vehicles and looking after a lot of the textures the temptation to cut corners could pop into your head..but he has not done that. By doing the hard work upfront with the new models , Dan has opened up a new "Field of Dreams" for anybody interested in modifiying the textures. Well done Dan Regards Måkjager
  21. Hi Monty......just happy that i could make a 1/2 decent stab at the beast...its one of my favourite vehicles too The basis of this mod was made near a year ago...i have learned some new stuff since then ..and looks like i will be learning some other kool stuff too from the Pig'Penners ..so mb one day in the future when the decks are clear i will get a chance to revisit it and bring it on par with my Tiger mods ( if u like the winter worn JP ...i dare say you will also like the winter worn Tiger in the works ) and Thanks to BFC for allowing graphic modification Regards Måkjager
