  1. Wait till it drops a paratrooper on your rail lines.
  2. It is if you want to discuss manufacturing. Tiger was actually designed pre-war but rejected. When it came time though, it was a much simpler tank to produce. All flat plate. Still, had major transmission (and other) problems due to weight, and was very expensive to produce. The Panther was a rush job (so got the earlier Mark number), but even so, the Germans, being Germans, did their usual over-engineering job, even while trying to avoid over-engineering it. The Americans just gyro-stabilized the gun. The Germans stabilized the whole damn tank, making the chassis extremely complex. And they didn't have the machine tools to do the gearing right, leading to frequent breakdowns.
  3. Not so. They considered doing it from the start, but decided to go raiding instead.
  4. Ever wonder why the Mark VI came out before the Mark V?
  5. First off, you misunderstood my post. Go re-read the Mark numbers again. Second off, exactly my point. They made a heck of a lot of IV's. And a heck of a lot of variants based on that chassis. The reason? They didn't change the chassis. It does. As long as you make the same model tank. In this game, you pay in mpp for the unit, and in mpp and time for the tech, so it all works out.
  6. Cuz you got the short end of the stick. Still playing with U-boats. They are a lot stronger than they used to be. In SC and SC2, they were usually wiped off the map by the end of 40. So far, I think it's an improvement, but maybe I'll come around to your way of thinking. We'll see. Think it might be wise to not even go actively looking til you're at Anti-Sub 1 and Long Range 1. Set up a blockade and wait till the Americans join. Let them bump into you.
  7. As you say, stats give a lot of wiggle room. So look at them with an open mind. If you add in the mines (not in game, I pushed ) and aircraft losses (nobody competent loses ships in the game to aircraft in the Atlantic) to the losses for DD to U-Boats alone, it comes out about right. Roughly 30% casualties for the type. So yeah, U-Boats are overpowered when a DD bumps into them. I agree. But broadly speaking, the MPP cost on both sides is about right. And DD is cheap. You had a bad day. That sub should have gone to the bottom. If it did go down, the cost to Germany is far higher. And I think you'd be a lot happier about the situation to boot.
  8. Who knows how many they would have produced if they could have just made up their minds? If you look through old threads, you'll see we've been through this before. If you look at German tank production, it was mainly III's and IV's. They had real teething problems with the Panthers and Tigers. There's a reason the PzkwVI hit the field before the PzkwV's. All those different variant's. What a production and supply nightmare. Fun for the model builders though.
  9. A bit harsh of a turn for you, but not necessarily that unrealistic. http://www.naval-history.net/WW2RN29-WarshiplossesBritish.htm
  10. Question on the Taranto raid popup. Is this just glitter or does it actually do anything to a ship sitting in that port?
  11. Ah, a perfect example. By the end, they were cranking them out in four days, but the first ones took considerably longer. Then you had weak welds, brittle steel, etc. which lead to several of them breaking in half. So they redesigned and switched to the Victory ships.
  12. You would think so, wouldn't you? But it doesn't work that way. New production line, new problems. Which requires changes to the line to fix, which slows things down, then new problems from the changes, which require another change, yadda, yadda, yadda... Don't believe me? Go buy the first year production run of just about anything. So welcome to my world. I'm sitting here updating 30 odd sets of blueprints today, some of them dating back to ten years ago.
  13. Think it works well enough, as is. You're opening up a whole can of worms there.
  14. Correct. You don't have the unit spotted under the Fog of War rules.
  15. A bit complicated, but actually, what Germany (and everybody else) was producing quickly were all the lines they left the hell alone. So perhaps you could cut the time on a Tank, Level 0, but there's no way you should cut the time on a Tank, Level 5. Which means a player would just buy a Level 0, then upgrade it the next turn. Makes it sort of a moot point.
  16. At least I have a shot at maxing it out, rleete.
  17. brrrr…It feels like somebody just walked across my grave…
  18. Ah HA!! J'accuse!!! Sleeping on the job again, were you?.
  19. Nice job Hubert. The random reports really add something. Received one on a carrier lurking off Malta, and was in position to whack it. Gonna have to see what it does at max one of these games.
  20. Pah. This recent outbreak of SSN's is making me lust for a Bourbon Manhattan. Or two. Yep, definitely two.
  21. Better hurry and go give it a shot as they should be hitting the Narrows right about now. btw, they have four cannons. You could be the first clown killed by a sailing ship in a long time.
  22. Sure, why not? We already got a ship of fools. They re-stepped the masts in Nyack and she sailed under the Tappan Zee bridge yesterday, headed for Charleston. 3 to 4 foot seas and a following wind.
  23. You failed the entrance exam everywhere else, I doubt you'll do any better there.
