1. Hi Mark, good to see you're back on the horse but it appears I may be backing the wrong nag! You can be assured that Wreck absolutely plays to win and enjoys thoroughly and painstakingly analysing his battles to ensure his chances of victory are maximised. At least that was my impression when I played him.... to my detriment. Regards Jim R.
2. Yep, those damn "demonition" charges are killers... especially when the squad throwing them chant demonically at the same time and have their HQ leader named Damien. Regards Jim R.
3. Thanks for the tip Ned. I'll set up my VCR accordingly. Regards Jim R.
4. Did you ever check out SSG's "The Ardennes Offensive"? One of those classic wargames on the operational level which I think was a brilliant first attempt and played very intuitively. Unfortunately it was never developed further by the 2 people behind SSG due to a lack of resources and demand it seems. You can still download the full version of the game from their site (I believe) absolutely free of charge. Regards Jim R.
5. That's fine with me... providing you promise not to always post musings that are generally as long as a Jason C's thesis. Regards Jim R.
6. Now this post reminded me of that Avalon Hill classic wargame Richtofens War, with its various (somewhat random) critical hit choices, any of which usually spelt impending doom to the stricken plane. Regards Jim R.
7. I believe it was just as reliable as the M2 at killing people once it hit. Regards Jim R.
8. Just in case Wreck hasn't been in touch with you guys yet, I can confirm that the email address I was using to send turns in our Nordic Wannabee tournament was leonard.dickens@verizon.net. Good luck all of you in the semi-finals (but I'll be secretly barracking for you Holien) Regards Jim R.
9. Well done Superted for exposing someone who is obviously a very bad sport and a cheat. More power to you. There is no worse feeling than playing a game of CM against someone who you later prove to be a cheat, believe me! Regards Jim R.
10. That model does look fantastic but one thing you can't fail to take note of... aerodynamic it aint! Regards Jim R.
11. ????? QUOTE:Americans do not like to dress up for their sports!!!! You've got to be kidding. How about all that bleedin' padding, helmets, grilles etc. those gridiron players wear to try & make themselves look 3 times bigger than they really are? Talk about dressing up when there's no real need for it, especially if you play a "mans" version of footbal such as Aussie Rules. Regards Jim R.
12. Is this what one would call a "tankist" comment, as opposed to a sexist one? Regards Jim R.
13. Yes, of course! The flag is obviously the one used by the local Heidelburg daisy society symbolising their support of The Party and always flown every third Sunday while discussing the new strains of daisy that could be grown at appropriate times of the year over tea and pumpkin scones. Regards Jim R.
14. Hi TB. Just finished my 4th game with Lopaka and have only 4 turns left to go with Wreck & then I'm all done. I'll send the AAR's all in one hit if that's alright with you. Regards Jim R.
15. A little known factoid here but apparently the fictional character Colonel Killgore in Apocalypse Now was based on the real life Hackworth and his exploits in Vietnam. Another interesting thing is that Hackworth is now an avowed pacifist who absolutely decrys Americas involvement in Vietnam and his contribution to that war. Regards Jim R.
16. There's another interesting thing about the above picture as well. Why is the Panther "shocked!" when it still has all its crewmen? Did an enemy unit give them a brown-eye or sumfink? Regards Jim R.
17. Tell me, did the unit you were in have a Cpl. Burns style malingerer in it? Regards Jim R.
18. Just thought I'd update you TB155 (BTW, why 155?) My two remaining games are now more than two thirds completed with Wreck posting regular emails and Lopaka doing likewise (albeit it a little bit slower). I anticipate being completed by the middle or maybe three quarters through February if that's any help to you in terms of likely completion dates for the various sections (section 3 BTW in my case). Plus this thread needs to be on page one & not languishing on the 2nd's boards. Regards Jim R.
19. You would know by simple deduction after hitting the gun on the opposing AFV that it suddenly stops shooting its main gun in the middle of the turn. Seems realistic enough to me. And if you're going to now say, how do you know what was hit?... my response would be, the AFV or AT gun firing usually has pretty good optics to see where the blazes the fall of shell is. Regards Jim R.
20. Surely you meant "right-wing minded" in the above posting or am I reading too much into your response? Regards Jim R.
21.
quote:
Originally posted by GenSplatton: You do realize that a building has a roof right? How do you think the mortar round would get through the roof if the thing is inside the building? Remember, this game is designed to be REALISTIC. Would you expect a mortar round to warp through your roof if you launched one inside your home? Probably not, hence it won't work in CM either. But seriously, thanks for the laff!

Whaddya mean? There's always the stove pipe through the roof you could use to fire your mortar bombs through! Regards Jim R.
22. Regarding gun hits, I can certainly confirm that not every gun hit necessarily damages the gun. I've achieved gun hits on numerous occasions from 20 mm Flak guns (even at sub 50 metre range) which had no effect. The latest one which shocked me a bit was a PIAT achieving a gun hit against a Pz IV with no effect. Regards Jim R.
23.
quote:
Originally posted by tero: Originally posted by The Commissar: [qb]I always thought the "Yaaa" sounded German, not American. Americans would perhaps yell "Yeah!", but this was a distinct "Yaa"-ing. Could it have something to do with the fact Ja is Yes in German ? Yessssss !!! is the modern pronounciation for a success in English so Jaaah !!! translates to Yessss !!![/QB]

Yes, I DO know this but it's said with such an American sounding accent, that's what I find so grating (only for the non American forc es of course). Back to the original question, does anybody know that file number? Regards Jim R.
24.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: I have full or nearly complete sound sets for all included nations other than Romanian and Hungarian. If anyone can natively (we ONLY use native speakers) speak either language please contact me AT ONCE! The list of all voice talent will be in the manual. Madmatt

I can recommend a good Hungarian to English phrase book if you like, oh bald one. It was used to great success by John Cleese in a certain Monty Python skit. Regards Jim R.
