King of the Steppe Tournament
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Scipio's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
What's a "Steepe"? At least, that's how it's spelt on that WarfareHQ site you've provided a link to. Regards Jim R. -
O.K., I'll throw my two cents into the ring. If sound mods had been installed with Rex's version of CMBB I believe he may have been able to correctly guess at what the mysterious target was due to the different noises a Panther 75mm gun makes compared with an '88. The noise the gun makes can often give away what the true nature of the beast is. My bugbear with misidentification is when King Tigers are regularly misidentified as Tiger IE's. The difference in looks are quite marked between the boxy, non sloped armoured Tiger IE & a King Tiger. If anything, a King Tiger should be misidentified as a Panther since at least both have similar angled armour aspects and both are still very large tanks compared with, say a more classic medium sized tank like a Panzer IV. Good on you Lorrin. It will be good to see you 2 working together on this thing rather than against each other. Regards Jim R. -
ROW III (Part 5)
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Just an update myself. I've managed to finish Petroskov bridge which proved to be an enthralling battle with lots of options. I don't think I'm giving much away by saying that the chances for the Soviets to destroy the bridge using H.E. are probably Buckleys or none. Only 5 turns left in The High Road with both Combined Arms and myself relatively confident that we'll be able to pull off a minor victory. Since we can't both achieve this perhaps it will end up a draw! Koltov has a little further to go and I am roughly half way through with still no great clash of forces yet. This one is still very much up in the air. Regards Jim R. -
CMBB barb wire bug?
Kanonier Reichmann replied to major disaster's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Bingo! I would have thought everybody by now would have realised that when you lay wire you turn the terrain underneath it to clear terrain. That's why your LOS improves dramatically when drawing it across wire obstructions compared with the surrounding woods, scattered trees, brush tiles etc. It's really quite simple, wire converts any terrain below it into clear except there is now a substantial movement penalty for infantry, wheeled vehicles can't cross and tracked vehicles (except halftracks) can cross but with a movement penalty and an increased chance of immobilisation compared with the normal (but converted) clear terrain underneath. Your favorite WWII small arm and why
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Tank Ace's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Can't go past the Owen Mk1 SMG. The perfect SMG for jungle fighting with incredible reliability and practicality. Legend has it that one was deliberately buried in a bog then dug up 3 months later to see if it would still function. All the tester had to do was cock it and it proceeded to fire off its full 30 round magazine no problems! Regards Jim R. -
Ummmm....this 20 degree angled rocket thingy mounted on a plane. Have you considered what would happen to the plane from the backblast when the rockets were fired? Would the pilots of said planes need to be of Japanese extraction and have a fanatical devotion to the Fuhrer? (As opposed to the Pope). Regards Jim R.

ROW III (Part 5)
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
There is no official deadline that I know of but I would imagine that aiming for the end of August would be a sound target. Perhaps Kingfish can elaborate on this when he gets the chance? Regards Jim R. -
how the HELL do you use assault boats?
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Juardis's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Here's a useless piece of information regarding Assault Boats. Did you know that if infantry are carrying assault boats on land that they become immune to AP mines. Unfortunately, they then become susceptible to AT minefields instead as the assault boat is treated by the game engine as a vehicle! Regards Jim R. -

ROW III (Part 5)
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I am guilty to a degree for only having sent in 2 AAR's to Kingfish while the third is stalled (King of Debrecen) at about the turn 12 point due to moving on with these extra 3 games. I certainly will be finishing my AAR for King of Debrecen but probably not for The Christmas Battle as I made it pretty clear that I thought it to be not very challenging for the Soviet player if he plays it safe and waits for his full force to arrive to crush the enemy using overwhelming numbers and firepower. The last scenario being The Beast was a highly enjoyable one which presents a great challenge to the spartan German force but I have a psychological problem in completing an AAR where I was up against 3 different opponents at various stages throughout the game. I simply can't get motivated to do an AAR where my end results may have been artificially improved (or worsened?) by playing turns against 3 different opponents, it kinda feels like cheating somehow.
