1. Now, now, dear vultures who covet the Lawyer's treasures... I have returned the last move of "Singing Slut Blowout" to Foobie. Next we shall see the score from his pathetic attempt to con me with this charade he billed as a "fair" game. I see now why he wouldn't face me with a QB. Being a Man of Honor, I shall proceed therewith to award the Prize where it is due, according to an ancient and terrible ritual of warfare. ------------------ I'm still waiting for Godot and my artillery barrage to arrive.
2. This CM artillery timing thing has annoyed me so much that I'm changing my signature. See below. ------------------ I'm still waiting for Godot and my artillery barrage to arrive.
3. Ask the Captain, he's the one who needs asylum.
4. Oh, a picture of Fudgebar's sheepfriend. Did it squeel with delight at your advances? Hehehe..... Foobar, you are a malignant and ugly stain on decent society. It looks as though you lost the Lawyer's Cup movie to a real CM player while you were cavorting in dead dark Europe on taxpayer money. He fooled me as much as you did with a sucker scenario, but ran up the score like you never could. Why must an honest lawyer suffer so?? Maybe you should seek asylum outside the US where you are unknown and somewhat safe. ------------------ Let them eat money
5.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: My GeForce 2 GTS 64 makes CM look great at 1600x1200 without the need to use FSAA. Jeff Heidman

Can you read the CM game text and use the controls allright at 1600x1200? I tried to run CM at that resolution with my Matrox G400Max. The game looked great, but the game text and individual units were too hard to see on my 19" monitor. So I switched to the Voodoo 5 for the FSAA to run at 1024x768, which is much nearer to the resolution used to maximize game design. Have you figured out something I missed?
6. My Voodoo 5500 makes CM look great at 4x FSAA. ------------------ Let them eat money
7.
quote:
Originally posted by Ron: No doubt, Pumas, Greyhounds and Daimlers commanded by Audie Murphy types seems to be the norm rather than the exception. Ron

LOL! I totally agree, but I also have a feeling German Audie Murphy's didn't run around leading assaults with so many SP flak guns or armored cars sporting 50mm and 75mm guns. Within the context of CM-style combat, the Greyhound is the most useful Allied asset for the cost, along with the 81mm mortar. I use 'em and love 'em. I support using realistic force mixes and tactics, but much of the fun in CM comes from using large doses of Audie Murphy's individual bravery and Patton's aggression. Fortunately, only the pixels die and we can fight again another day.
8. IMO, having just finished a Singling Shootout PBEM, it is stacked game against the US player. I don't recommend it. The objectives are vague, and you attack a fortified city with hidden pillboxes, Panthers, and Stug's. Oh yeah, did I mention that you start out in an open muddy field, where your bunch of Shermans move like glaciers and are sitting ducks. I griped and moaned the whole game, which turned out to be the most fun for me. Hehe... ------------------ Let them eat money
9. Please give the Allied players a nice Greyhound. We use it all the time, and mine looks a little washed out and low on detail. Tiger's mods are terrific, and I have some of the other mods too. Keep up the great work. CM is an entirely new game experience with them at 4x FSAA. Thanks
10. I had an Nanao 21" a few years ago. It was too big. I've found that running games at high resolutions is impractical because the game type and control bars are too small to read. I recommend the Iiyama Vision Master 450 19" for sharp clear text and colors. Using 4x FSAA on my Voodoo 5 with all hi-res mods available, CM looks great and plays smoothly. NO pixel popping.
11. Search "Tiger Ace" for a co-misery session of guys who bought the Simpson "book". A lot of laughs.
12. When playing CM, particularly QB's, do you plan your initial attack or defense to cover all Victroy Flags, or do you intentionally abandon some from the start in order to concentrate your forces and enhance your ablility to win selected flags? In a recent 30-turn QB on a medium map involving about 5 or 6 flags, my opponent and I disagreed on this issue. As the attacker, he focused on winning the central majority of flags, which he accomplished by turn 20 or so. Despite my goading, he refused to attack my last flag, which was defended pretty well. Realizing finally that he wasn't bluffing as the game hit turn 28, I made a few hasty and unsuccessful counter-attacks to gain back a flag and kill some more units to improve my score. The game ended as a draw. My opponent defended his approach to playing CM as a matter of smart tactics, where choosing selected flags and focusing all units on them enhanced his winning opportunities and score overall, even though he gave up the chance of total victory from the start. My response was that CM is a tactical game simulating a company commander being ordered to take or defend all victory flag objectives during a 30-minute battle. The company commander is not allowed to choose which part of his orders he should follow. Even if he fails to accomplish all flag objectives, at least he has tried to do so. Consequently, my defensive forces were spread to cover all flags. What practice do you follow? My experience is limited to medium maps and 1500 point games, so maybe map size dictates that all flags cannot be covered by a sensible battle plan on large maps. But medium maps? My former opponent challenged me to poll the forum on this issue. He says a majority of players, particularly experienced players, follow his approach to CM and other wargames. This issue is fundamental to a satisfying game experience because both players need to share the same approach. Otherwise, force selections, unit deployment, and in-game tactical decisions will be based on incompatible overall goals. What is your opinion? Thanks for any input.
13. I don't know why Magua doesn't show up here to accept our praises. He is one of the best guys who is changing the CM graphics to make it right up to date. I'm awestruck at what he does. Magua's buildings and other mods, combined with Gunslinger's complete mod (another Hero), have turned CM into one fantastic visual treat. Tiger and the Spanish Panther Mod guy (Bull?) are fantastic too, not to mention of course the CMHQ mods and Tremblett velvet grass. WOW! Please keep it up. I download all of them and love them. Amazing when you look at things close up and far away. Your fan, Jake [This message has been edited by Lawyer (edited 11-09-2000).]
14. Fudgebar, you are a vile reptile who cannot win a fair QB. Instead, you snookered this trusting soul into a pre-set turkey shoot scenario where you gained the tactical and force advantages built in by the developer to help the dumb AI make a decent fight of it. I agree your playing skills are equivalent to the dumb AI, and you need all the help you can get, but to call it a fair game?? Such perfidity is my reward for being a swell, generous, wonderful guy who agreed to play your scenario??? I think NOT. (BTW, we aren't done yet) Do you truly believe this insolence makes you worthy to own "Hell to Victory" starring George Peppard, my favorite bleary-eyed hero, together with GEORGE HAMILTON?? Let me put it this way.... In your honor, FooFoo, I shall loose a Colossal Colonic Cannonade at dawn tomorrow and every day thereafter. We shall deal with "who wins the movie in a manner determined fair by the Lawyer. Does that make you feel better? BTW, did anybody tell you that Europe washed away this week? Better take your swimsuit. ------------------ Let them eat money [This message has been edited by Lawyer (edited 11-07-2000).]
15. Obviously a man of great moral conviction and heroic strength. Thanks for sharing this bit of information. Each bit helps me to better understand that incredible era of history. Jake
16.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: Lawyer wrote: > Where's the racism? They're all white guys. Maybe you mean culturism. Race is not dependent on physical appearance. It can refer to nationality as well. David

Actually, David, race has nothing to do with nationality. Do you think all the people in Europe are different races? Would that make for 30 races in Europe? 40, 50, or how about expanding into Russia? How many there? How about Africa or Asia? No, race is a term that has been misused for modern political reasons having nothing to do with race. Now, long ago when I was in school, they taught there were three races -- caucasoid, negroid, and asian. Have the genes changed or has the current view of them changed? Something worth thinking about...

18. Tiger is right. I got the Voodoo 5 in July after much research for the FSAA, which is perfect for a game like CM. I run 4x FSAA at 1024x768 on a PIII 600. NO (that means zero) pixel popping and beautiful pictures, particularly with the hi-res mods. You've got to see it to believe how nice it is. GE Force cards are for speedy FPS, but not for high quality scenery like we enjoy in CM. ------------------ Let them eat money!
19. Kump, you and Magua are the greatest! I went to your ftp site, but the file names are cryptic. Since I have none of your stuff, what should I download to get the trees? Do I need all of them, or just certain ones to get the trees and not the sky? ------------------ Let them eat money!

21. Lawyers do not create wealth, they suck up the wealth of others. Thus, having no talent or time to create scenarios myself, I am very pleased that Bill devotes much of his time and talent to making good scenarios so I can suck them up. Thanks for all your work, Bill! ------------------ There's a lot more than Santy Claus sneaking around in the dark [This message has been edited by Lawyer (edited 10-23-2000).]
22. This question has been on my mind too, Bill, since I am just finishing up a few 30 turn PBEM games that were started 5 weeks ago. We have exchanged turns diligently, averaging about once per day, but the back and forth takes time. So I prefer 20 to 30 turns to allow good tactics and battle development without making a career out of it. I agree with the view that longer games ought to be worked into operations. ------------------ There's a lot more than Santy Claus sneaking around in the dark
23. I think you should get your lazy ass back to your dinky computer and send me the next turn I need to beat you. Why spend more money when you can't use what you have very well? Lawyer ------------------ There's a lot more than Santy Claus sneaking around in the dark
24. "From Hell to Victory" starring George Peppard, George Hamilton, Horst Bucholtz and Capucine. Every war movie rolled into one. ------------------ "One must gratefully acknowledge that the real reason for Allied victory over Germany in World War II was the superior skill of the enormous army of lawyers filing suit against Hitler in the Federal courts of the United States." Churchill -- 1945
25. This matter is discussed very intelligently and fairly from a U.S. perspective in "Closing with the Enemy" by Michael Doubler, an excellent book that has been recommended many times on this forum. The author concludes that U.S. military forces gained military excellence through tough on-the-job experience and ready adaptability of their doctrine and available resources. The author cites many examples where U.S. forces matched and exceeded the Germans in individual and unit fighting skills.
