  1. All Steel Panthers games had this option, as do East Front 2 and West Front. Whether it's used as one of the ways a person checks out a Scenario he's working on, or just used once in a while, as a neat way of watching how the Ai handles both sides of a battle, it can be interesting in either case. Will it be in any of the upcoming Patches for CM, or is it at the bottom of the Request List? I know I'm not the only person who has mentioned it. I'm talking, of course, about Ai Versus Ai Only, without any humans. Even as just an extra option, it would be nice.
  2. On July 18, I saw some excellent screenshots from a scenario that was being worked on, called: Team Yankee. It didn't sound like it had too much longer to go to be finished. Does anyone know if it's anywhere near ready for download? Thanks in advance.
  3. Priest, I'm not talking about tweaking the "map" or terrain. It's just to tweak the units, whether mine or the Ai's. As new as I am at this, the Ai seems way more powerful to me than it does to you veterans. Intel Weenie, as you said, I'll just keep a copy of Version 1.01 around for just such a purpose. Especially since I only play Single Player. But, it would have been great to use it on the larger maps that are now created when you can choose a larger number of points. Yes, I know I can do the same thing in the Editor, but, the QB "Auto Picks" both sides Units much better than I could. Thats one of the things I like so much about it. I've even written down some samples of the Units that the QB picks for battles for a certain number of points. I told you I was a newbie. Also, it seemed sometimes that QB Random Maps are a little different than Editor Random Maps. Unless the "exact" same processes are being used.
  4. Before Patch 1.03, one of CM's neat features, especially for newbies like me, who only play Single Player anyway, was to be able to make a few tweaks to a QB game in the Editor. Of course, this only worked if you hadn't moved a single unit on the Setup Screen, & you saved the game untouched. If you moved 1 single unit & then tried to save it, the Editor wouldn't load it. Now, after 1.03, the Editor won't load the QB Saved Game even if it units "haven't" been moved. Why was that ability to edit an untouched QB Saved Game removed? It shouldn't have had any effect on PBEM games, because once 1 single unit is moved, it couldn't be opened in the Editor anyway. So, why did this feature have to be taken away?
  5. Only the url for the site was posted. At the time, the Handbook on German Military Forces was not on that site. The last time I was on that site was, I think, a couple of months ago, & at that time those Handbook files weren't there. I think they might have been put up only recently.
  6. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/DL/AtoZ.htm It's the page of the MHI Digital Library with a ton of Military Information. This page has been listed on the Board before, but, this is the 1st. time I've seen the "Handbook on German Military Forces" there. It's in 3 sections: Chapters 1-3(40MB), 4-7(40.5MB), & 8-10(36MB). All of the files are in .pdf format. Also, the 489 Page "Small Wars Handbook" looks like it has lots of info in it that I suppose could be useful as tactics info.
  7. I'm only talking about that possibility for Single Player Games, not for PBEM. I automatically thought it was Single Player you were talking about. But, even in Single Player, you don't "have" to look at the Map to do this. Once your QB first starts to load, just look down at your keyboard until you can just barely see that the Map has loaded the first time, then just click ALT-S to Save it, & then ALT-A to close the game. Then, if you wanted to edit just the Units, once you open the Saved Game in the Editor, you only have the Editor Screen in front of you. Then, just Edit whatever Units you wanted to Edit, & click Save to save it as a Scenario. By the way, I wouldn't think this can even be done for a PBEM game. Once even 1 thing is touched in a QB game, it can't be opened in the Scenario Editor. And, if a PBEM opponent saw it as a Scenario, instead of a Saved QB, he would know something is fishy as it is. And, that ability is only subject to abuse if someone abuses it. I only mentioned it because I thought you were looking for a way to make those partial deletions of squads in Single Player QBs & I was letting you know of a way to do it. And, it definitely is a neat feature for them to allow for someone who, once in a while, might like to tweak a QB in "Single Player Only."
  8. There is a way you can delete anything you want in a Quick Battle. After you've chosen all the parameters of the QB, and your Map Screen opens up for the first time in Setup Mode, DON'T setup anything & don't move one single unit. Immediately save the game. Then, exit that game, open up the Editor, and Load that game you just saved. You then can make any changes you want, including making the deletions you said you'd like to make. When you're done, when you click Save in your Editor Screen, just make sure to Save in in your Scenario Directory, instead of your Save Game Directory.
  9. Ben, in a pinch, you could always do the following: As soon as you've set all your Quick Battle Parameters, & the Battle Map opens up for the first time, before you make any moves at all, save the game & then close it. Once you do that, you can actually use the Editor to open that Saved game, make any extra purchases or changes you need to make, & then save that game in the Scenarios folder. That game will then be listed as a Scenario & you can play it as such. You just have to make sure not to make even 1 move when your Quick Battle first opens up before you save it. Because, if you do the Scenario Editor won't open it for you.
  10. Tanq Tonic, That did the trick! Thank you so much. I would have replied sooner, but, as soon as I saw your message, I anxiously started fiddling around with that feature. Now I have even more reason to like CM. As if I needed any.
  11. I agree with you. If I'm understanding you correctly, it would be great to be able to edit Random Battle Maps. I realize the Editor can generate Random Maps, but, I mean it would be nice to be able to edit the maps that the Quick Battle Generator makes after you save the game the first time. The other day I misunderstood someone & thought you could do this. So, I tried opening up a Saved Game that had been generated from the Battle Generator & the Editor wouldn't let me. When I selected the saved game using: LOAD, it just made that Ding sound it makes when you try to do something you can't. The Saved Games have the same .cmb extension that the Scenarios do, but, still the Scenario Editor won't open them. It sure would be a handy feature, though.
  12. Well, I actually have a Voodoo 1 with 4MB, but I have it disabled, because I could never get any games to work with it. Even if I did set my screen res to 640X480, which I run CM at anyway, I had nothing but a black screen when I tried to run CM. All other games I tried with that card did the same thing. I did setup Windows to have a 200MB swap file ,which helped my speed a little. Even with that, the little "Computer Player is Thinking" window takes about 5 seconds to finish, but, the little window down below takes up to 45 seconds to finish, before the 60 seconds of game play actually starts running.
  13. For anyone who has an old clunker of a computer & wonders, yes Combat Mission does work with a Pentium 166 with 48MB Ram & a 1MB Cirrus Logic Card. That's all. No 3D Card. It's not fast, by any means, & the graphics aren't flashy, but, it does work. The other day, I saw CM working on a computer with the following specs: Celeron-overclocked to 504MHZ. 384MB Ram Geforce 2 Video Card. And, Oh . . . My . . . Goodness. It was absolutely incredible. The graphics, sounds, everything about it. And, while I can even see Rain & Smoke on my computer, on his they are amazing. If there is one thing that will get me to buy another computer with his specs, it's being able to play Combat Mission on it. And, I'm so happy that CM is selling so well and so fast. Because, as incredible as CM is, Charles & Steve deserve every bit of success they get. Alex
