  4. It depends...if you look at your profile, you have the option of choosing when your week starts (yes its true...go look). I just changed my week start to Thursday, so now its next week for me, starting to D/L..............
  5. Hey, where's Elliot Gould? He should be in the frame somewhere!
  6. Well, if this week is next week's last week and next week is this week's next week, doesn't that make this week last week so next week is this week.....gotta go check my email wooho
  7. Wont we see a Gone Gold announcement first? That will be the ultimate tease!
  8. couple of thoughts eliminate transfer arrows - use a wrap around map I like the idea of friction (great way to simulate attrion) - this would allow HC to dramtically increase the maximum operational movement, but at a cost of; loss of strength effectiveness and moral as the unit moved farther and farther (force march)
  9. Yes it is still possible (the 2 intercepts have not made a difference) I use the out of range fighter to attack the HQ in front of Warsaw to soak off one of the interecepts. I then have the 2 infantry units in Prussia attack Warsaw. Then I send in the elite fighter to attack Warsaw (using up the 2nd intercept), after which I send in the Stukas then the tanks finish off the unit in Warsaw at which point the corps (forget the city name) moves in to take the city.
  10. HAHAHAHA...I didnt read the manual, when I cant figure something out I search through the manual... I was searching for port size and was getting nothing - it is port strength! Thanks for you confirmation and for such a great game
  11. Quick related question: The number next to a port: thats the port size which I assume is also the default supply number for that port (which explains why you can repair in some ports and not others) based on the repair/reinforce supply table Thanks
  12. Georgie Porgie, puddin and pie only had 1.8, which made him cry when his troops ran too a fro his Dell Laptop he did throw
  13. I guess I was blessed from a wargaming standpoint. I lived next to 2 wargamers and we always had a game going (Gulf Strike, Struggle of Nations, NATO, SPI WW2) and every Sunday we had a group of 10-15 guys who would get together for tabletop miniatures. Miss those days and now am relegated to playing games though these machines.
  14. The point I was trying to make that while technology has some great advantages (wooho it increases productivity at work), it tends to make most things more impersonal and much of the fun of gaming is the social interaction. Definately agree that you cant use the mantra that is not a real game, come play this.
  15. One of the things I think is working against getting younger gamers into serious war games is how technology has changed war gaming. When I started playing "real" war games it was at a table with other people moving little cardboard chits and lead figures around. While the strategic aspect of the game was fun, the banter around the table was as important to the experience as was how the tactics played out. What a reaction around the room when I announced that my French Cuirassier brigade was charging into the exposed flank of the Austrian Grenadier division (yes, Mack was in charge). Nowadays with the trend towards war games being computer based, the whole social aspect is gone/changed. We have exchanged the cheers of our game mates and the grief stricken looks of our opponents as the aforementioned Cuirassier routs the enemy from the field for emails, taunts in forums and ultimately victory screens. I do like computer based war games. The complexity, scope, ease of use and the variety of subject they can simulate is amazing, but I generally view them as an individual experience. Yes PBEM can be fun, but they generally take a while and quite often peter out as the outcome looms. The console game offers a much more social experience. Don’t knock playing a console game such as Call of Duty with a bunch of friends until you have tried it. It is not a strategy game by any means, but it is fun and it truly can be a social activity. We won't expand our hobby by enticing younger gamers to buy our favorite games due to a score of "10", we will get them playing wargames games by showing them the fun that can be had by playing them.
  16. You know BF, you could save a heck of a lot of time by using an M48 model for all German tanks. It works for Hollywood why not for BF....just kidding! Whenver I watch Patton it always annoys me they did not do a better job on the equipment.
  17. I can just see the assault boats now Hail Mary Full of Grace Hail Mary Full of Grace Hail Mary Full of Grace Hail Mary Full of Grace
  18. awesome...they had initially said no so much info on these boards (good and extraneous) that its easy to miss something important
  19. FULDA GAP FULDA GAP I know BF said they were not going to go that way, but the lack of parity between the forces is what keeps me from calling this game as one of favorites (CMBB and CMBO are #1 and #2 all time for me!). I have not purchased the Marine module yet (will be doing so- probably today depends on work schedule and if I will be able to play today), so I cant speak to the parity with the addition of the t90 and bmp3. At the moment I would rather see the WW2 title, but if BF said they were doing a Russian/former Warsaw Pct country module v NATO (in modern times- dont need to go back to the M1/M60 v T80) I think my excitement could be swayed.
  20. I represent the farmer and the farmer represents me. It is true I dont give a dam, about my self-esteem or self-importance. If I did, I would not have ventured into this dark pit of despair. To all of you minions of mediocrity I say bring it on, If you haven't got the guts to play spin the bottle with a leper then stay away from me. Its a beaver dam...now that I have placed it on a tee that up for you, take a swing and see how far you can hit it.
