  1. Scipio I do also think that the ambush command does work like Gyrene said even if you target the point of the ambush marker. When an enemy unit comes close to that marker your ambushing unit unhides and fires even if the ambushee does not "stumble" directly over the marker.
  2. Do you really think they will add a command structure for AFVs? A command structure will only be useful in very large scenarios or QBs where you have a decent number of AFVs which make up a platoon or even a company. While I'm making some wild speculations, what about adding more delay time for tanks which have no radios...which results in a lower effectiveness of the vehicle...reflected in a lower point cost. What a can of worms!
  3. Hi Tharka, Rumour goes that CM2 should be out at fall this year, but I don't think that BTS has made any official announcement about the release date yet. Getting any intel from the CM2 beta test area is probably harder than to code finnish AT teams armed only with grappling hooks and hot potatoes

  5. What is my inmate number again? You see Crocky, mine is bigger than yours [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: Schugger ]
  6. Congrats Winecape It looks like all those negative waves in the recent postings had motivated your AT -crew. For your question what I prefer as AT asset, I really like the 50mm PAK. It has a high ROF and is very difficult to spot even when fired given a sufficient engagement range and good coverage like woods. However, they have not enough punch against most Allied medium tanks like the Sherman and you need a flank/rear shot to get a penetration. They do an excellent job when they have to deal with light tanks ( Stuarts ) and most TDs.
  7. WineCap, I haven't used the AT device you described but 700m sounds like quite a large distance. Have you thought about using the editor to recreate the situation?
  8. *chuckle* Phenomenal Art skills you have, but you suffer from simultaneous posting syndrome.
  9. Check this link http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ubbcode.html to find out. Oh Mann, schwere Geburt. [This message has been edited by Schugger (edited 04-03-2001).] [This message has been edited by Schugger (edited 04-03-2001).]
  10. I'm quite sure that this is not correct, Admiral. Check the firepower value for a unit which is low on ammo and you'll find out that it is not decreased. They only fire rarly, often only once per turn or when the enemy is very close.
  11. Crocket, if your briefing told you that enemy aircraft is likely to show up, you can almost be sure that you've to face one or two planes. As mentioned before don't count on a single 20mm AA gun to shot down planes ( but it could happen ) and they are indeed very useful against soft skinned vehicles, but I wouldn't use them that way in your situation. Even if the AA gun doesn't kill any planes it usually does a good job ( from my experience ) in "suppressing" them and their strafing runs become very inaccurate. Depending on the FBs experience, they might get scared if they encounter AA fire and be driven off completely before they could do much harm to your forces. If you use your AA gun in a ground support role, it get's exposed and might draw artillery fire leaving you with nothing to counter the JaBo menace.
  12. Wonderful, I should have asked you fifteen years ago.
  13. Paris - my darkest hour. We visited the french capital with our school class many years ago and also the Arc de Triomphe where some kind of of military parade was going on. For sure, I was eager to take a closer look. Easier said than done with the massive traffic that was circling around the Arc, but I remembered a TV docu where was said that you simply have to go and the cars will stop and give way. You guess what happened when I was about to show my classmates what for a cool bastard I am when I started to cross. Hell broke lose as the first cars hit the breaks, angry Frenchmen shouted some nice words ( which I luckily didn't understand ) and within seconds Ive created a real traffic chaos. I've made it to the other side in one piece, wet from cold sweat into the waiting arms of two policemen. As I was about to collect my price (i.e. watch the parade ), they made very clear that I wasn't invited to the party and sent me back without mercy and the traffic show started again. Needless to say what I was thinking about when I discovered " A walk in Paris " on the game disc.
  14. Looks like you're right, Wilko. Guessing from the penetration data the PAK 40 has the same gun as the IVs and StugIIIs. I somehow thought that the Germans first employed the 75L70 gun as a PAK and mounted the gun later on AFVs as it seems there have done it with the 75L48 and the 88L71. But I have no clue, of course.
  15. Yet another Stuart from hell. The tank commander's pic is simply hilarious - looks like a very militant Hippie Where did you get that Mod, Monty?
  16. I think that the Pz IIL suits better for armored scout missions in CM than the 231/1 Armored Car, since it has the better side armour and makes it less vulnerable to the .50cal MG ( the doom of any German ACs ). As the Allies smallest main gun has 37mm which penetrates the armour of both German vehicles, the added slope of the AC is good for nothing ( well, in game terms ). The reason why I still choose the AC and not the Luchs ( MB, this is the German name for this anchovy can and in return we don't call the M18 Höllenpussy ) is that you have to buy him from the armour category and those points could be spend on more useful AFVs. ------------------ Turret down Hull down Track down Pants down
  17. Pssst...Hey you! Go to http://home.germany.net/101-77027/CM/TCMHQ.html and get your fix. Check the German Mod section and you'll find what you need.
  18. Gunnergoz, is there any chance your mod will also be available on a different site? My download utility ( DAP ) won't work on Gustav's site and downloading it "normally" is rather painful as I get diconnected constantly in the middle of the dl-process. No grass for me *sniff*
  19. I hate to admit it; I played the Allies against the AI and got creamed by it pretty badly. All Shermans and Jeeps were knocked out and MG were running. Only two of the six AA vehicles were knocked out. ------------------ Turret down Hull down Track down Pants down
  20. I also couldn't resist and set up a battle with the editor: Axis had six 37mm AA vehicles and the Allies had four cal.50 MGs in heavy buildings, four MG Jeeps and four Shermans. Range was about 400 meters and the battle lasts for three rounds, guess who had won it.
  21. Just want to add my experiences with those dreaded Sd KFZs. In a game against Mostro I bought one as I feared air raids and desperately want something to protect my tanks. Well, the expected enemy aircraft have not appeared and I employed the vehicle in a ground support role. At first it blew up a light building containing an enemy squad within 30 seconds or so and I was amazed and surprised by it's effectiveness. In the final stages of this battle, when Mostro had virtually overrun my positions, the AA vehicle was the last one I had. For two or three turns Mostro tried to destroy it with a Jackson, one or two M18s and all his infantry units within LOS to it, while I was fast moving it towards my map edge. Well the Sd KFZ survived and brewed up one Hellcat, while shrugging off AP rounds and a massive amount of incoming small arms fire. So, I think something is wrong with them and haven't used them ever since in any QBs.
  22. I've also a question regarding PAKs: Wasn't there a German AT gun which mounts the gun that the Panther has ( 75L70 )?
  23. From my experiance, withdrawing ( disengaging ) troops can't fire at all. There are just to busy to get out of the way as quick as possible. I think it is also not possible to withdraw towards the enemy setup zone, but I haven't tried it yet. Must look funny in real life though: " Eh Hans, ze Tommies have lost zeir orientation. Zey are retreating in ze wrong direction." " Nee Dieter, zis is just 'nother dirty trick from Monty!" ( DakkaDakkaDakka )
  24. Well Sig, the percentage number you see when you target a infantry is not a hit percentage, it is the target's exposure rating. This does not change when your squad enters the building too. Also check out this download: ftp://ftp.combatmission.com/Exposure%20tables_v1.1.zip
  25. Gunnergoz, I'm also not getting tired of watching your screenshots but I would like to see them in my game even more. Any chance your mod will be hosted soon? If Kevin Kline would see those pics he would say: "Oh Madonna! Con grande Kathedrale di Milano." ------------------ Turret down Hull down Track down Pants down
